Do any of you make your own clothing? I'm not talking about basic red-bubble ass shit. I'm talking pattern making, manufacturing etc. I've made a design and I'm going to start measuring it out. What can I expect to pay for a single sample?

Not overseas manufacturing by the way, I'd like to keep it in the states. Preferably NY.

what kinda ideas you got anon

>> No.15237454,1 [INTERNAL]

you could probably find a manufacturer to make a single sample for around $500-$700, but it all depends on what you want made and how complex it is.

I do red-bubble type shit lol. It's a good way to test a brand identity in the beginning. I'd like to get into manufacturing later though. I find manufacturing leads to be kinda cloak and dagger. I think because people aren't suppose to let other know of deals their getting and stuff?

makes sense
>I do red-bubble type shit lol. It's a good way to test a brand identity in the beginning

I'm not trying to do regular screen printed t-shirts. I'm trying to make custom pieces in whatever material I pick

depends where you are, sample sewers charge around 20-21 an hour to start where i am but, because of how hard they are to find here many end up getting bid on by various designers

>Do any of you make your own clothing?
yes. i outsource stuff and also cut and sew shit myself. dont bother with looking for a manu for a sample unless you have an established brand

>>15237799
make that shit yourself
cut the sleeves off a white tee. use coffee grinds to dye it. for the lettering you can make a stencil and spray paint it, or just use a marker. for the design you could use inkjet printer transfers.

get a cheap sewing machine for more complex things

How do you even go about finding a manufacturer and detailing your design to them?

from what I've researched going overseas is fine but be prepared to have weak communication and having to order a shit ton of units with long wait times.
>Step One
>Create your design in Illustrator
>Make precise measurements
>Choose your materials
>Make a tech-pack
>Step Two A
>Get a sample made
>Contact a pattern-maker (If youre not going overseas)
>Research Manufacturers / ask your pattern maker for a recommendation
>Get fitted for your Sample
>Revise if needed
>STEP TWO B
>Search for a manufacturer on a site like Alibaba
>Find someone with a good reputation
>Send detailed illustrator file to them
>Pray they don't steal your plans and sell them
(Yes this happens. If they like a certain cut they will keep your files and send them to dozens of manufacturers so that others can use your cut)
>Wait 2-4 weeks for them to create a sample
>Wait 2-4 additional weeks for them to send the sample to you
>OR: Get detailed images from their potato phones
>Revise if needed
>Step Three
>If everything looks correct order in bulk

I design and sew my own clothes. Not all of them obviously but I have been making pieces since I was in high school. I'm not the best seamstress but I am patient and I can get by. I do intend to get some designs manufactured one day but I haven't really looked into it much yet.

You've got the hard part done, at this point you could just send your finished garment over to a manufacturer (along with a spec-sheet if you have one) and they can remake it ad infinity.

i dig the cut on the cuff, how did you rip them? Also are they store bought then ripped or you actually bought denim and made them by hand?

>> No.15240921

>>15240913
actually bought denim, based the pattern off various other jeans though
used a razor blade to rip them
thanks, I kind of hate how a lot of store bought jeans look and how much stretch is in the denim they use, which inspired me here
