I know different people like different art, but for me stuff like this holds absolutely zero appeal. I actually find it a little unpleasant. I think it's just because I've always been an artist and this is so radically different from the art I like to make and it's almost childlike in it's simplicity. That's not to say my opinion is right, just how I personally feel and it doesn't resonate with me at all.

It's from the 1950, it's as modern as your grandpa.

Also, not trying to defend Fernand Leger (i think it's shit) but technicality has no value and realistic art has no place in a world where you can take accurate photos and videos.
That's a debate artists had 100 years ago, you're late for that.

The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation."

1950 IS modern art. The act produced "now" is called "contemporary art"

That's just, like, your opinion man. Something that is highly technical can still translate deep feeling. Just because you like shit that is more abstract that doesn't mean realism is worthless. In many cases the realism isn't of itself the point of the work. It is just the language being used.

where did i say technical skill solely determines the value?

but like how one appreciates a skilled pianist or a michelin starred chef, having actual skill makes the product actually enjoyable. The classical idea of art is that it has to be aesthetic. Light and tone, colour and shade, anatomy, perspective, composition--all these elements give structure and coherence. Art can definitely deviate from being totally traditional, but imo you still need some of it to have artistic merit

brutalist architecture is ugly AF, btw. It died out for a reason, no one wants to be actually depressed looking at a building.

Classical Art was literally built on church and government oppression, theres a reason why it only took a few years to push arts to its limits once Artist were able to make art freely.

Post Photography and The Salon des Refusés i think this is just your opinion.

Also it only applies to the western historical lense and western art. These Aesthetic ideas were not true in the rest of the world

I like realism, i like classical paintings, but it's the emotion or the message behind it that's important.
Sometimes there's both realism and emotion, sometimes not.

Vermeer, whose only appeal was realism (because he used some kind of camera obscura) would not be an important artist today. Realism alone has no value in a post-camera world.
But Caravaggio would still be important because you can actually feel something in his paintings.

melancholic music often has melody, rhythm, a chorus and structure etc...aka things that make up good music

brutalist architecture is harsh and domineering. So you shouldnt say melancholic music, you should find a genre of music that truly embodies the spirit of brutalism.

music can be turned off if you dont like it or grow tired of it. But a eyesore of a building would be there for 20, 30+ years. And everyone around would have to live with this giant hulk of shit concrete Its like blasting loud aggressive music on the subway, nobody wants to hear that shit

I think these settings say a lot actually. The beauty of nature is the most enduring beauty there is, just as is our relationship with it. I think this kind of art is underappreciated because people aren't as drawn to the understated anymore. They want something busy, something that speaks LOUDLY. A piece that evokes simple feelings of tranquility, or warmth, or quiet radiance is likely to be viewed as boring. They find it unrelatable because they have no relationship with nature and haven't experienced those kinds of feelings, or if they have they quickly forgot them for something more attention grabbing.

a little dated but think the fa board tan, or the general memes that come from the board, they speak to a certain aesthetic and draw towards things that i would describe as elitist, minimalist, underground, haute culture, kinda prickish. In general fa as board attempts to be cutting edge or timeless, old timey 1800s scared of modernity nature paintings are the exact opposite of this.

Someone who subscribes to mainstream, square attitudes is obviously not effay, but a painting with strong cutting edge aesthetics and individualist quality and attitude would be.

I'm guessing at least some of the people posting are artists of some sort? What kind of art do you do? I worry if there is a place for more traditional art anymore with the introduction of digital art. I tattooed for 10 years and saw a lot of artists moving towards working with digital media to make their designs because in truth it's so much faster and I suppose it's easier. I never figured it out. Ive always worked with graphite or charcoal, ink, colored pencil.. it just feels like that shit is getting phased out idk.

it takes skill to paint something that communicates emotions. abstract paintings are harder to paint then photo-realistic ones. it takes real talent to communicate thought or emotion with simple forms, its more elegant this way. but you will never understand this off course because youre too autistic to understand what art is all about, to you its either ideology or "woow it looks like real life, it sure must be hard to paint this". a 5 year old childs level of understanding.

people will not talk abut ricegum in 100 years

and it was a new concept at one point, thats why the piece is important

And you missed my point. People arguing about it or it being relevant doesn't give it legitimacy nor is it a testament to quality. It's still shit, regardless.

What is the goal of art to you and what defines legitimacy.

it a toilet has an estimated price of $1,500,000, and tours museums, when it was made to make fun of artist, its a statement on art by simply existing.

saying "its shit" is kind of the point.

This isn't a new argument. You're restating what every faggot in this thread has already said. It's not a counterpoint to what I said, it's not a fresh take, it's not something I hadn't thought about, it's the same fucking thing. How do you think you're going to convince me with this?

"It's bad."
"But you saying it's bad is the point."
"So? It's bad."
"But that's the point."
"I don't care. Bad."
"But the artist wanted you to feel that way."
"And?"

Stop this autism.

but it doesnt say "its shit"

marcel was one of many artist brothers i assume in Paris at the height of what we generally call "modernism". so he was close - he saw his brothers and the previous generations of painters wrestle for some foundation for their art and their choices. it would seem only sort general for m of surrealism interested him, cubsim didnt. he did about 4 or 5 very nice 'cubst' style'' paintings and then moved on. technology didnt interest him . . .only the spark of cleverness interested him - wittiness and sex. so he didnt 'make' a urinal cuz ha ha art is shit: he made a 'fountain' cuz haha its really a urinal - a perverse conceptual object - perverse in its relation to defecation/urination/waste, perverted because of its conflicting multiplicity and perverted cuz of its general inappropriateness.
