I feel like this gets asked every thread, but what are my options with carpet? no matter what kind of furniture and setup I get I'll always have a shitty floor that detracts from everything else. is it even possible to have an effay living space without hardwood or at least laminate floor?

it doesn't help that the lighting in my apartment is absolutely horrid. as you can see from pic related (9000 hours in paint) there's a sliding glass door for natural illumination and that's it. the kitchen and dining area is darker than a welfare office at all hours of the day.

Get a bumch of lamps. You'll especially want some sort of overhead work lamp in the kitchen area so you aren't casting a shadow over your counters/sink
