I've lost a fair bit of weight since the year started: got down from a size 10 to a size 6, lost a few inches around my waist and lower abdominal area and lost 5.7kg. I'm still skinnyfat though and I mainly just want to get a flat belly. I've done a bit of resistance training and running (and cutting/doing OMAD) to gain a bit of muscle and lose fat

Is it a good idea that, if I become underweight yet don't have the bodyfat%/physique I want, I should try lean bulking and focus building muscle (but try to not overdo the calories by too much) and then eventually, until I acquire enough lean mass, I can start slowly cutting (whilst trying to preserve as much muscle as possible) until I hit my ideal bodyfat%?

How do you stick to low calorie diets? I'm currently trying omad on ~800 calories, very high on protein and some fats but every other day i binge hard. I also exercise a lot (40-50km cycling per week and some form of resistance training almost everyday) don't know if i should reduce that.

Hi, yes, I think bulking is generally always a good idea provided you are doing a clean bulk. Dirty bulking is indeed fun, but just adds more work later for when you need to clean up your diet and cut.

Personally, I've been bulking for a long time (former skinnyfat, current builtfat) and do not regret it at all.

What I would recommend based on your situation is that if you're not trying to put on serious mass, doing a really easy cut (not a suicide cut, just doing an easy deficit like 500-1000 kcals) while doing a full body strength plan (doesn't have to be super heavy, just consistently lifting and working all your major skeletal muscle groups) and keeping your protein up - you should be able to maintain your muscle mass for the most part, strengthen up and possibly build some muscle, while still following your ultimate goal of slimming down.

Science says, you can actually build muscle on a deficit, just keep your protein up and try to eat as clean as possible. Best of luck.
