No for two reasons.
First, I can tell just from the image that that is a particularly low quality band. It will fray almost immediately and will be rough and uncomfortable, defeating the point of a NATO strap. The colors, I am almost positive, will be far more muted and ugly than in the pic so it will just look like shit rather than a vibrant rainbow you are imagining.
Second, you will look like a gigantic obnoxious prancing cake boy fag ass. Not even fags wear overt rainbow shit because they know only the most irritating and embarrassing activist fags go around with that kind of stuff.

STN vs TN is a meme, the real noticeable difference is because the 5000 series uses the updated solar cells that they started putting into the bluetooth modules, basically you're cutting out a pane of glass so the screen is a lot clearer. It's also why models like the B5600 barely see any improvement with a hydro mod. The sapphire screen is nice though.

Personally, the titanium model would have to be sub 500 bucks for me to consider it, which I don't think is ever going to happen. The chink bracelet is pretty good, it's not the most comfortable metal strap I've ever used but that's more down to the design, which is the same on the real one anyway. After filing it down to remove the dumb static first link that effectively makes the lug to lug width 60mm, and putting a little bit of foam under the clasp to steady it so it clips into place solidly, it's great. Miles better than the stock straps.

Authenticity? Well yeah, it’s not identical to the OG thing, but that’s just the same problem the MOTM speed master is suffering from.

Quartz is superior and Seiko actually does it right. You don't want to be servicing your watches every 5 years especially if the service costs more than the watch itself. By dressing up I don't mean wearing it as a dress watch. It's more about versatility. When you have a black dialed silver watch like the first one, you can pretty much pair it with everything because it's extremely neutral. You can have a popping colorful NATO and the flashiness will be tempered by the cool silver and neutral black. You can have it on a leather strap where the silver will play well with the earthy, natural leather. You can have it on a bracelet where silver bracelets are the norm and have something substantial and sporty. You can pair it with a nylon and have something that still looks rugged and classic. The sky is the limit.
When your watch is all black, it looks severe, tactical, muted to the point of being like plastic. You can't put it on a silver bracelet. You can put it on a NATO but it's going to look way too military, there will be no fun. You can't put it on leather, it will look too cold to match the strap. All black watches just suck because you are going balls deep into that whole aggressive military mood and you can never lose it. You will get tired of it.
And I like the really dark blue on the first watch bezel more, because having seen it in person that type of blue is so dark it basically looks black most of the time, making your watch understated and versatile, but then it hits the light and it's very rich and adds a ton of depth. That sort of little accent of color adds years of enjoyment to your watch, you'll look down at your wrist, it'll catch the light and you'll smile. That won't happen with your tacticool watch where you will be at a party one day and think "my watch looks like I should be shitkicking in Iraq"

hes one of those muh quartz people

if you just want a watch that you dont need to pay attention to, get a quartz. You can throw it in a corner and just wear it occasionally. It'll keep time better than 99% of all mechanical out there.

if you want to marvel at a piece of engineering and know that your watch is powered by tiny springs and gears and wheels instead of just a computer chip and some batteries you get a mechanical. If you want to be able to put your ear to the watch and hear the escapement wheel and knowing that is a physical thing---to me its worth my money, the hundreds of tiny physical components needed to make a mechanical watch work is so much more than a quartz

The only real marvel of engineering are spring drive watches, because they aren't based on a completely outdated design and use quartz regulation to achieve a reasonable level of accuracy, while relying on mechanical advantage to power the second hand.

Decent quartz should be within 3 seconds per month, though. The problem is that the quartz was a race to the bottom, so proper regulation never became important.

People never cared too much about accuracy, a quartz watch that loses 15 seconds a month is still better than any mechanical which will lose 15 seconds a week/day. It's the mindless drudgery that should've been eliminated decades ago, but big watch companies all banded together to keep selling trash as premium trash because they didn't want to lose their market share to 5 dollar Casios.

Also, cooking with gas is just fucking normal. It's much better than the electric options in terms of speed.

>>15199396
I think the only thing that goes against the spirit of a watch is one day battery smartwatch trash. Someone who wears his watch diving might say that any watch without 1000m water resistance goes against the spirit of what a watch should be, because for him the watch is just a backup for his backup computer.

you dont need a watch to tell the time in 2020. You have a phone thats always synced to the GPS system. If you want something on your wrist you can have a smartwatch that does everything and more than a quartz watch ever can. Quartz watches themselves are becoming outdated. They will come up with better and better batteries for smartwatches. And now there is wireless charging so you dont even have to plug any wires in.

>, cooking with gas is just fucking normal. It's much better than the electric options in terms of speed.

nope. With a induction stove you can boil water in 1/4 of the time needed to do with with a gas flame. It is objectively superior and safer in many aspects. But why dont more people like it?

You can't buy the same model new, although there are some vaguely similar models like 120512, 120849.

There are far more interesting Soviet models like the Strela chronograph which was exposed to open space well before Omega and can be seen above in the thread, and Sturmanskie worn by Gagarin on the first manned spaceflight and also had a remake recently.

Yes, I do.

I have not, once, ever, wanted to use my phone to check the time. It'd be like using a fucking pocketwatch.
>If you want something on your wrist you can have a smartwatch that does everything and more than a quartz watch ever can.
Smartwatches are filled with pointless gimmicks that I will never use, and require charging daily, which is absurd.
>They will come up with better and better batteries for smartwatches.
The power demand is on a completely different level though. It's physically impossible to put a battery that would last more than maybe a month into a smartwatch.
>And now there is wireless charging so you dont even have to plug any wires in.
Putting something on a mat isn't much better than plugging it in.

Induction requires specific pans and shit, and you can't do certain things that require flames.

how is this an issue?
you dont sleep with your current watch right? you take it off. Its the same work as putting it on the charging pad or whatever.

how many people actually use all the functions in a quartz watch?

i doubt you even use the stopwatch function more than a few times a year.
a smartwatch will show you messages, app alerts, pedometer, heartrate, SPo2. All these are useful functions. If you like technology so much you should love all of this.

now you will argue that you "dont need these functions", while ignoring that is the same reason I dont need a quartz watch.

I do. What's the point in taking it off? I'm not going to break it, and I've got shit eyesight so it's nice to check my wrist to see the time when I wake up.

>>how many people actually use all the functions in a quartz watch?
The difference here is that all those "functions" aren't constantly sucking up battery life.

>a smartwatch will show you messages, app alerts, pedometer, heartrate, SPo2. All these are useful functions. If you like technology so much you should love all of this.
I hate all of these things.

>now you will argue that you "dont need these functions", while ignoring that is the same reason I dont need a quartz watch.
But the major function of quartz is telling the time. The major function of a smartwatch is being a cut-down phone on your wrist. If you're interested in watches, you should probably be interested in telling the time, but to you, a watch is just a bracelet with a funny looking face with things that spin around it.

>so now you admit you yourself are wearing a watch for your own enjoyment.
I'm wearing a watch to tell the time. I paid about a 50 dollar excess to get a watch I liked the look of instead of going for the cheapest model with the features I wanted.

I use my glasses as a tool, right? They enable me to see. But I'm fine with paying a little more for ones I enjoy looking at, as long as I'm not compromising on the basics like titanium, a decent FOV lens, and bridge comfort. If I saw some glasses I loved the look of, but they failed to meet my parameters, I wouldn't buy them.

I don't know if I'd bother with solar if you aren't running radio time. You could consider one of the newer B5600s instead, bluetooth time is basically the same thing, although I hear it's a little more battery intensive, and that's assuming you have smartphone on you every night.

Personally I'm not a big fan of how the solar cell looks through the screen, it feels very calculator. Honestly, I feel like the cheaper casios are better than the budget squares, the AE1200 is a nice square alternative with bigger digits and a smaller overall case.

it's cool but I hear the strap is dog awful so you should probably put some money towards replacing it.

It's a heuer carrera re-edition, specifically ref CS3110. Check chrono24 or wherever else watches are sold for it. Haven't checked lately how much they are but I got mine for a pretty decent price.

I think that one is too chunky looking. I’m even hesitant on the 710 case. The rounds aren’t bad

Is 30sec per day a good accuracy for for a 30 euro casio digital watch (ae-1300wh)? What is an acceptable accuracy in this price range anyway?

>> No.15202220

>30s/d

No, that's terrible accuracy even for a mechanical movement.

alright, thanks. yeah, i figured it's probably bad value from a "watch buff" perspective and 500 usd seems waaay overpriced. copped it ca 18 months ago because i liked it from a design perspective. retail was 30k jpy (ca. 280 usd) if memory serves and i haven't had any issues so far.

that said, should i ever venture into "serious watch" territory, i'll probably look at nomos glashütte, i suppose. any recommendations for a similar "minimalist" design with decent quality?

That's pretty standard. Cheap quartz isn't great, which is why you go radio solar if you want a cheap accurate timepiece.

not him but

nomos is kinda expensive for a starter, if you just want this kind of bauhaus look with mechanical, you can look at sternglas
https://www.sternglas.com/collections/all-watches

and stowa

>serious watch
no such thing, despite what watch snobs will say ( like most consumer hobbies)

watch collecting is more about horological history, value, quality, complications, and the joy the watch gives to the wearer. A $10 casio f91-w is as much a watch as a $5000 omega speedmaster.
