I really wanted to like IB myself but unfortunately cardamom absolutely dominates it on my skin. It'd be so much better if lavender and violets were more prominent. Performance is amazing though. Also if you don;t mind a little less high-brow composition with worse performance then HdP 1725 is similar enough and 2x cheaper.

I'm big on frag but still a newfag to incense, but I am starting to get more serious. I was gifted a Japanese stick version of "Moss Garden" by Nokiba and I really enjoyed it. Coincidentally my meditative/metaphysical interests also ended up getting me into resins and loose high end stuff so I ended up ordering an asian burner, coal, and white ash as well as some occultic blends. Currently I have a loose blend of sandalwood, frankincense, myrrh and amber that I can't wait to burn properly, it smells amazing on its own.

I think you can easily get high-quality Japanese stick incense and holders in Europe almost anywhere online. Some are even low-smoke. My only advice is to avoid synthetics if you can. This whole thing seems like a nice diversion for me since my best perfumes are wasted while stuck at home.

Its definitely used for meditation and spiritual stuff in the East. And in Orthodox/Catholic churches those big censers are for all sorts of rituals. In western occult practices they are used more ritualistically to deal with spirits, but it also helps put you in the right mindframe what the kind of thing you are doing.

No guide that I know of, sorry. I spent some time in Japan so I happened to see those cool tripod burners beforehand. You can also get some decent brass hanging censers on Etsy or ebay.

Incense isn't really that hard to grasp, the basic bitch sticks are easy to use but have limitations on what they can be made of. Loose incense, the skies the limit. You can throw in wood, herbs, berries, resins, even dirt and sense it is slowly burnt on a hot coal they release their subtleties more gradually.

I think the Japanese have something called "kodo" which is typical autism in the "tea ceremony" style of appreciating incense. If you want a guide, I would look up vids on guides on that and then tone down the obsessiveness 70% to something more casual.

Etsy is a good place for cheap materials, you can even get good quality resins for cheap. Resins are the juicy stuff that you can only really appreciate in loose incense mixes. A lot of it is experimenting with blends and singles, figuring out what you like and what you hate (I can't stand patchouli) and then maybe trying to make your own blends.

As a side note, women love incense and its a perfect accoutrement for the bedroom.

This is the most basic setup for loose incense. You take a fireproof container, fill it with some sand or refined ash, pop in a brick of incense charcoal (regular charcoal stinks and has horrible additives) and then light it up till it catches. Then you use fireproof tongs, metal chopsticks, or something to place the bits of incense on top of it. some censers have a lid some are just a bowl. If it has a lid it has to have holes, obviously, or else the fire will suffocate and no scent can escape. as usually when dealing with fire don't be a retard and burn your house down.

I happened to order mine from an etsy guy (TheGreenManAlchemist) who makes a longer burning kind out of coconut. Update on Interlude Man. Fucking hell it’s potent, and this is barely a half-spray, but my word it’s beautiful. My sample of Oliver is now on. I’m no expert so my knowledge is limited, but nevertheless, the opening is very clean with a fruity sweetness. If you’ve seen the film (Call Me By Your Name) I imagine it’s how it might smell at the breakfast table. The fresh fruits, but with a smell of clean clothes, perhaps freshly cleaned by Mafalda. Despite the freshness, it’s not light. There’s a bit of weight to it, almost syrupy fruit.

My issue with sprays danker than Fabreeze for entire rooms, is if you get some weird notes that smell off it can be hard to clean it out of the area, especially if you want to change things up and they start to mingle in bad ways. You could also have someone with an allergy or sensitivity to certain sprays. Another issue is that odor neutralizers are better at getting rid of stink that you are too acclimated to notice, whereas actual room sprays will only blend and possible accentuate it.

I think its much better to use a centralized source of room fragrance like potpourri, oil warmers, candles, incense, ect so you can easily change it and air out the place.

Update. Not long lasting, not big on sillage (although perhaps I should have sprayed more) but I’ve never smelt anything like it. Glad I bought a bigger sample because I can see myself buying a bottle. It’s unique, not an immediate love, but one I kept sniffing. I’ve since been to sleep and woken up and smelling my wrist now I just smell like clean clothes. With a bigger spray it would be lovely to wake up to.

It’s bright and sunny and makes me smile, a little linear, but for a summer fragrance, where lemon and neroli and other similar ingredients dominate it’s great to have something so different.

I finally started to try the Sylvaine Delacourte discovery boxes. My experience is very limited, so I'm afraid my descriptions will lack some details.

I first tried Dovana from the La Collection Muscs box. The beginning is very sharp, reminds me of hair spray.
After it settles down it becomes floral and fresh, with some bitter hints (in a good way). More on the feminine side of unisex.
I can't tell if a specific flower stands out. It's also my first musk fragrance, no idea what the musk part in there is.
