There’re 2 types of color combos which work:
Contrast (black+red, navy+yellow, green+orange etc) and monochrome(black+grey, navy+green, red+pink etc)

And brown is none of them, only camel or golden brown makes really noticeable contrast with black but we rarely count this colors as regular brown.
