You have to be someone. What kind of someone?

1. A musician in a big local scene band. Punk, post-punk variations, and metal are most likely, but alt country could work. Being the front man isn't a necessity, but a bonus.
1,a. Hip hop artist. This is probably more region dependent than the above.
2. Bartender at the new, hip bar or the old, hip mainstay. If you're in your 30s, bar owner also works.
3. A tattoo artist at a well-known shop or any shop if you're big on Instagram.
4. A well-regarded visual artist. Bonus points for anyone who works in clay, screen printing, or murals. Basically, big visible or purchasable work slightly edges out gallery work (even when the latter is technically for sale).
4,b. If you're young and your city has a thriving literary scene, you could make the artist thing work as a writer or poet. Being published is important, but not necessary. You'll likely only attract your students anyway (and they generally won't be art hoes).
5. A drug dealer. Cocaine and molly are probably the highest ranked, followed by hallucinogens and weed. Heroin feels like a mixed bag, but I'd probably under rank it. All of the above paths get a bit better if you're a drug dealer, particularly bartender/owner.

You're clothing and looks don't matter as much as your position in the scene.
