Nope. But if you think that it's just a wild idea and you could get bored after a while, get a hommage. There are better ones but i got this one in silver. Love the looks, quality is good for under 50€. Only thing i'm missing is the minute track, reading it is a bit less convenient without.
There are a lot of others from seiko, dugena, citizen. But the best hommages are from rotary, just saw a similar one to yours for under 200€.

Reposting my question from last thread:

I have this dream of becoming a caped hero that roams the flea markets, looking for old watches in distress, to take them home with me, nurture them and bring them back to life, so that they can live happily ever after in my growing shitter collection.
But that would require two things:
1. A set of tools to open and fix them.
2. Actually knowing what the fuck I am doing.
What would I need to get started, and how realistic is it for a guy with probably above average* technical skills but not trained in a technical profession to be able to do so?

*Always hard to self assess with something like this, but given how bad the current average among young-ish folks is, I'm comfortable with this statement. Just don't know how much above I am, and I'm more of a hammer guy, so fine stuff would be new for me. Hence, I'd like to start out very cheap, to not loose too much money, should I realize it is just not for me.

There are probably countless tutorials on Youtube about restoring a watch, polishing out scratches and blemishes and maybe rubbing some lube on some exposed parts or cleaning the crown. Doing a full blown restoration involves taking apart a complicated movement that you understand the intricacies of and then cleaning potentially many individual tiny parts and possibly replacing some you cannot source, then putting it all back together. That is out of your league. Honestly there's not a lot of reasons to fuck with vintage watches. It either works or it doesn't and the stuff a layman can do is probably going to just lower the value or potentially fuck it up even more.

>> No.15079608

>>15079596
Honestly, watches aren’t THAT hard to work on, especially if you’re trying to service models that are commonly available. YouTube instructional videos are really helpful. The annoying part of watch servicing is sourcing the parts, and this actually takes some degree of knowledge. For more esoteric models, there’s oftentimes literally one dude in the world you need to find on a forum who can source parts for you. That’s why shit can take months.

Just experiment on some cheap busted down Seiko 5 or one of those 10 dollar Indian watches. Crack it open, see if you understand what's going on back there, and if it's too daunting then you know it's not a good idea but you haven't ruined a watch you might actually care about.

>> No.15079646

>>15079640
I actually fixed a "1 JEWELS" swiss watch a while ago, but cracking it open sucked without tools. also, I probably can't take it apart further without wrecking it, without specialized tool.
And looking at the display caseback of my chronograph, I think I have a rough idea of whats going on.
But yeah, I absolutely wanna start on some really, really cheap shitters, so to not wreck something that's actually good.

Dial swaps and cleaning some exposed parts and the case is an easy way to start. Get a hand puller and a case-back remover, and a Seiko 5 from India. Get a feeling for taking the hands, dial, etc off and putting them back on. I'm not a watchmaker, but I can put one together out of parts, and for some watches, movements are plentiful.

Do it, even if you fail, the stuff you learn that way and the learning will be fun itself.
>tools
If you want to keep costs low, improvise some tools i already did stuff like:
-remove watch hands with a plastic bag as cover and two razorblades (quartz movement, battery corrodet) Installed hands back, no damage. Get the proper hand remover for a watch you want to keep tho.
-put two hexagonal screwdriver bits into a vice to unscrew my watches back (didn't want to order a caseback tool)
-used the part of the vice that secures it to the table as a press to close a quartzes caseback that was hard to snap back in after battery change. (watch laid face down on a plastic ring so the glass didn't get pressure from the press, alligned caseback properly and screwed the press slowly down until it popped in)

These ghetto methods were way more fun for me than simply ordering tools from amazon. They are cheap but i knew that i'd like the ghetto methods. So try stuff, improvise and have fun learning.

I'd get some android watch that i like and but top priority: it should be able to have a custom font with the apple watch hermes edition. (not standard but there should be custom fonts from users and this one should be there too, or i'd make one myself.)

Call me wierd, but i like those numerals, i like roman ones and these are a neat variation of it. Already tried to find a custom watchface for my clock wallpaper for android but there are none like this. When i just got into watches i was bored and found several pirate versions of these clock livewallpapers (pro version) and there was even a google+ group where you could download all kinds of custom styles for it. It was huge fun to find watchfaces from watches i liked visually.
I guess i'll have to make the wallpaper myself somehow.

Totally. There are some custom faces but, like with all things apple, are probably harder to do. Maybe you need to jailbreak your watch or phone for this. Android watches are simpler in that matter.
I will have to make my own watchface for my phone. The problem is not what program to use but how to measure and finding the right proportions and spacing so it looks exactly how i want it to. And i can't even find a lot of good pictures where i could take precise measurements, so i'll have to try around.

I don't even need the damn watchface as much as i just want to see if i could do it.

I find Seiko and a couple of the other heritage companies are appalling when it comes to their own product photography and marketing. I'll usually end up looking at photos on watch forums and social media (even the most obscure watches seem to have a few dozen photos under their own hashtag)

>after i saw what else is out there, i'd rather go for a different tank hommage. Because there are so many versions with details that i like, so i'd rather explore more until i find the ideal looking one.

>appalling when it comes to their own product photography
Totally. I just opened omegas website, just to test and saw these unrealistic, perfectionist renders on the front page. I know that i like natural light more than this and i like shiny reflections instead of these neutral renders. But i know that it would look cheap and unprofessional to use unedited pictures. On the other hand, the normal consumers think similar, that's why watch youtubers are so popular right now, people want to see it in reality.

>That could very well happen to me too.
It's a fun journey and you will learn more about your taste in the end. For me it's less the brand name but the expected quality that would let me decide for the cartier, if i can't find a prettier hommage that i like more.
I'd get the hommage, go to a store with the cartier i want, tell the guy my plan and hopefully he let's me compare them side by side. If i see that the print is way more crisp or the metal seems nicer than the hommage and other finishing is way better than what i currently have, then cartier it is.(quartz, i care only about the design in this case) But when the difference is not really there or big enough i'd keep my hommage and my money.

Not talking about my 40€ chink copy of course, but the rotaries that i saw online seemed like well done for under 200€. Maybe there are some older rotaries that look even nicer and the nicest i could get would be the one i'd compare to the cartier.

Try it. Most likely it will fit really well. I have a MTP-1154PQ-7BEF and it's 34 mm case diameter. Should be the same as the girl version of yours. But my watch is really flat. It still doesnt look too small on average wrists. Yours is fatter and will look bigger on the wrist, try it.

Modern watches are just too big. Before the 2000's mens watches were 36-38 mm standard. The bigger ones were chronographs or others with special functions. They just had to make them bigger due to subdials readability or big movement. But then everything got bigger for retarded reasons.

A smart watch is a bit overkill for that. Luckily, some crafty japanese invented something called a quartz watch, which essentially is a smartwatch without the smart, so it can be either smaller, cheaper or better looking (or any combination thereof) than a full blown smart watch, while still keeping the watch functionality.
Pretty clever, really, it replaced my smartwacht like 90% of the times I'm using it. And for the remaining 10% were I'd need the smarts, I just use my phone.

That's what also making me curious. I just searched in german terms. Nobody in a small forum seems to know the brand.
I searched for:
-Descartes uhr (uhr=watch in german)
-searched firmenverzeichnis(registry of companies)
-markenname(brand name) descartes
-descartes and french words for watch/wristwatch

Nothing to find.
Also skimmed this post and nobody knows any info about the brand, they just compliment his watch.
https://uhrforum.de/threads/descartes-diver-aus-den-70ern-mit-puw-1561.116113/

Seems to really be a mall brand. But it's wierd, even mall brands have to be in the registry of companies. So i guess it's french, belgian or swiss. Unironically, ask reddit, maybe they have more french people that can search in their countries brand registries/archives. Because i spent about 10 minutes in reasearch and want to know it too now, lol.

for a long time men's watches were small, 34-38mm. in recent years watches have gotten larger, with an average size of 39-42 mm, and larger for divers. 40mm is now considered the typical size of a modern dress watch whereas even just a few years ago dress watches were ideally 38mm or less. now trends are slowly starting to swing back towards smaller watches.

cons:
>Genta-esque design, so considered derivative of the Royal Oak
>Vacheron Constantin has tremendous history, but has been in the hands of Arabs and now Richemont (AP is still in the hands of the original family)
>somewhat thicc

pros:
>Overseas is far less common among nouveau riche douchebags than the RO
>a great deal of manual movement finishing (poinçon de Genève)
>Maltese cross logo is badass

You basically have two main versions of the RO and the Overseas (talking about the basic time-only watches):

1) a cheaper oversized thick steel version
>VC 4500
>AP 15500

2) a thinner, smaller white gold version
>VC 2000
>AP 15202

Each respective category has similar dimensions and a similar price between VC and AP.

Why the fuck VC is trying to go head-to-head with AP like that is beyond me; the RO is the original Genta, the Overseas can never compete with them on an equal playing field.
What they should do is give the ultraslim Overseas version a steel case, and make that the standard Overseas (for the same 20k price).
If they did that, they would steal a massive chunk of the market away from the RO.

Why?
I don't like how the links are so thick closes to the watch head, but overall the design is absolutely great, and it has the quick-detach feature.

>classic dial paired with super sporty bezel
The sunburst dials aren't mismatched to the sporty watch design, but I do wish they'd do something more original and less plain.
The blue dials are amazing though; it's the same process as the "chronometre bleu" dials from FP Journe.

>I don't like how the links are so thick closes to the watch head
that's the problem, the way it connects to the watch also makes the links look pinched. I'm not a fan of integrated bracelets but the point of them is to make it so the bracelet is flowing naturally out of the watch but the VCO has one integrated badly. it looks like a separate bracelet but at the same time it is all up in the watch case's ass. it is simultaneously the most integrated while looking like the least integrated among all integral bracelets. it's not good.
as for the dial the problem is you have this incredible rich blue classic dial and it's in the middle of an extremely sporty watch with an integrated bracelet, a sporty case design, and some kind of aggressive sawblade bezel. it does a disservice to the dial. I've never been a fan of the RO but I don't like the overseas either. it looks confused, the result of a classic watchmaker attempting to make something sporty but not having the balls to fully lean into it, leading to an awkward mix of classy and sporty design elements. same reason why AP's latest watch failed.

>> No.15081035

>>15081029
The RO has the exact same problem though; the first couple of links flare out from the watch head, effectively making the lug-to-lug distance almost 60mm or something.

And the dial on a Genta-alike should be eye-catching. The blue dial suits it beautifully.
It's the sunburst dials that are too cookie-cutter.

>> No.15081042

>>15081035
the royal oak bracelet flaring out makes the lug width insane but it also makes for a smooth transition between watch and bracelet visually. that's missing from the VSO. the VSO's bracelet being integrated doesn't really do anything for it. it's senseless.
and I agree, the sunburst dial is beautiful but not exactly daring. that's my point. personally I find the RO to be ugly but it's all-in on its design aesthetics. it looks like a loud 70s watch and it shows, but the ugliness is unified and fits together, which is why it's transcended its era. that and the power of meme marketing, probably.
the overseas is confused. the dial, the most immediately notable aspect of the watch, is old school dress watch while the rest of it is aggressive sports watch. it does not fit. that's why the watch does not work. it lacks a unified design language.

You're fucked. I'd go for the mini turtle if you can stomach the awful look, or the new seiko 6r35 apocalypse which seems to be 39mm, 19mm lug width, with a 42mm cushion case. That's the same size roughly as the mini turtle.

There are tons of stupid watches with stupid materials from haute horology brands that are really not much better. Don't be a retard. You are calling Fossil watches a crime against horology when it's just a company that makes quartz watches that have different looks to them. They aren't counterfeiting anything. They don't misrepresent themselves as anything but nifty looking quartz watches. The watches themselves are decently made and fairly priced. They don't call themselves affordable luxury or any other buzzwords. They don't even do many homages.
You are a fucking brainlet and you exposed yourself as such by overreacting to some guy liking a Fossil watch. I don't think you can even back up what you said. What makes Fossil so shit? Is it quartz? Because even Rolex tried to get into the quartz game back in the day. Quartz was being marketed as the superior technology when it premiered. Quartz watches were selling for thousands of dollars and it was hailed as a definite step forward, a quantum leap in the pursuit of horological perfection, until Swiss shitters started memeing and retards like you fell for it.
Or is it because they are "unoriginal" when they put out thousands of watches that look quite different whereas it's not a "crime against horology" for people to shell out hundreds for shit like the Steinhart Ocean One, a Rolex ripoff made in China that sticks an ETA movement in the case, literally nothing original to it but the branding?
Fuck off, retard. Let that guy enjoy his Fossil.

The horology meme is marketing talk to feel better and elitist about getting kiked out of several thousands of dollars.

If there were no brand name on certain models, a lot of horology lovers wouldn't give a fuck about a lot of models. That said, the fossil is a total shitter and ugly as sin. But you using pleb speak like "crime against horology" is cringier than this fossil can ever be.

>> No.15081915

I'm not saying anything about the swiss or horology m8. Just that fossil is no different from any other of the fashion dogshit brands in that they're selling $4 chink tier watches for $200+ to clueless plebs. I'd make the same criticism of being overpriced when it comes to shit like hublot, richard mille, most tags, etc.

The 62mas is easily the worst seiko diver, the case is horribly primitive and a real discomfort on the wrist

This new design scales up the case size without making it more comfortable in any way. It actually increases the bezel size which was one of the better things about the original. The proportions are overall fucked and are nasty ugly. Don't even get me started on the asking price. Should be $250 not fucking $700.

Who pays you to stirr up conflict? The thread is runnig well without this bullshit? Nobody cares here about fits or has anything against technology. But so many threads had similar shit like this.
>towards the end of the thread some sperg posts a retarded oppinion
>other guy disagrees passionly with him
>they argue back and forth but it does not look natural, looks fabricated and already prepared
>they always use the most retarded bait sentences possible
>random posters chime in on it but notice soon that they are not talking to a normal human being

Most guys will think it's some retard but i think that it's the same faggot who makes these threads and gives them a push. People that lurk longer start to notice and that's why the first few posts don't get much attention. It's dumb, stop that fake drama, that is the real cancer for threads.

Dominos had a collab with Rolex. There were Dominos Rolexes with the logo on the dial. Dominos gave them to people who ran a successful franchise for 10 years or something. I think they still do it but it's a Dominos buckle with a clean dial.

I always stayed clear of Nomos, idk if /wt/ had something to do with that. You should see them in person, they wear so nice on the wrist, straps are amazing, in house manual wind and great fit and finish. Picked it up for £800. Cali dial is interesting but has grown on me.

Wt hates the other models and so do i, Their other dials just look like shit to me and i'm not the person to appreciate bauhaus. The club looks really good to me, love the white version of it. But even their 36mm one has this god awful lug gap, just because these german retards designed it to be worn on a nato.

I found the worst amateur pic of it to show the lug thing, the pic does no justice at all to how good the dial looks like in reality. The bigger versions like the 38 and 42 clubs suffer from lug overhang on certain wrists because their lugs are just a bad idea. The guy i found even has a a normal wrist, not small. He says 6.7inch
https://forums.watchuseek.com/f8/need-your-help-deciding-size-nomos-club-2311634.html
There are several, good reasonst why some are scared away from nomos. And their tangentes squared off lugs just look worse than this.
But to be fair, if i am not going to buy it anyway, it's easier to find points to bitch about it, i guess.

Yes, i was looking for lug pics and found this version. That thing is amazing. The cream dial together with these great numerals. Proportions are perfect, colors too, and even the date integration is great (don't know the size, might be 38mm).

But then you see it in reality, from a perspecticve that doesn't hide the lug problem.

That's one of the reasons I didn't go with the 36, I originally wanted an Orion (prob still pick one up at the right price), I've been waiting on ebay for a club or Orion for months, wanted a display back. Wanted the white dial but end up going for a black (minty) all in all I'm happy with the watch.

The lugs on the 38 is not that bad and the case is so nice, you have to see it in person, I feel a lot of the hate is just due to bad photography and no one seeing it in the steel.

I get a really vintage omega constellation feel of the club 38, you should have a look at it if you haven't. I can live with the lugs, they are a design element of the watch as you say. Lume is an add plus tho if dont last as long as I'd like.

That looks way better than the 36mm. So these damn germans just shrank the case but left the lugs the same, bad decision.
I can see it on the pic, the case has this nice shape, round and well balanced in proportion.

Custom made dials by a californian refurbishment company. It looked interesting and became a trend. And it's easier to identify symbols under water. And understand in which half of the dial your hands are. When diving, your brain can have a harder time with orientation.

Yeah, good decision. Such an old watch has certain risks. If i wanted such an old model i'd only go for it in my home country.

Why specifically the UG? Seems like a bad compromise with the bad readability. And the design, at least for me is not pretty. There are better looking dials and gold watches in this classic design shouldn't be too rare.

Yea that's half the reason I didn't go all on on it, I'll just hold out for a Tank Louis in the furture. I do like the next santos mid, but explorer 114270 and reverso 976 are on my shopping list next.
