I'm seriously glad I had a traditional black tie wedding and not some "all the groomsmen's colors have to match the bridesmaid's dresses" shit that just looks terrible. The absolute worst is when they do go "black tie" but have all the men wear colored waistcoats and bowties. One of my good friends is getting married this year and is just having us all wear a grey or blue suit of our choosing, which is how it should be. The matching trend is gay as fuck and always looks cringe.

Take your time and buy clothes that fit. The good thing about /tip/ is everything is interchangeable. Focus on basics. Get a good quality leather belt. Chinos in various colors. OCBDs in various colors and patterns. Polo shirts. Crew-neck sweaters. Loafers, mocs, boat shoes, etc. Then outerwear like jackets. I recommend thrifting initially so you can experiment without blowing too much money and then buy items that you find yourself wearing a lot later on.

Honestly I normally don't. I just go for nicer but still casual shirts or sweaters and such. Unless im going out to a nice place for dinner or like to a theatre or something but even then it's usually a fairly casual look still. I used to wear suits all the time cause I went to a posh private prep school in middle and high school and I just feel more comfortable wearing nicer stuff, but people look at you weird on the west coast if you wear suits all the time, especially as a college fag.

But if you work somewhere that you're expected to dress nice there's no reason not to look good doing so. Don't fucking show up in cheap shirts and off the rack shit. Though if you work in IT or something in california people might look at you funny.

I know this image is posted in every thread, but on the off chance it is an anon who wants feedback:
Fit is good and the shoes look fine. Your shirt looks a tad tight around the neck, but another half size might not be worth it. The real problem is your hair and facial hair. You need to start slicking your hair straight back. This is not negotiable. You look like absolute shit now, but would look genuinely handsome with that fix. Honestly it might even make you able to pull off that shitty mustache, but I would shave it anyway. Right now you look like a weirdo that I would be afraid would corner me and try to talk to me about something annoying. If you changed your hair and facial hair you would be the sort of person people would want to walk up to. I hope this helps. You have much higher potential than you are reaching and the fix is quite simple.

>> No.15052957

>>15051933
White tie is extinct exactly because people don’t do it anymore. You could make the argument that it is excessively burdensome to ask for white tie, but then there are 2 related arguments against that:
>most people don’t own black tie to begin with
>because they don’t own a black tie attire, they end up renting most of the time
Considering this, they could just as easily rent a white tie attire, provided that the demand returns.
The second argument would be that most special occasions that require a degree of formality choose to add the “optional” suffix to the end, which means that it allows those who have the items to go with the appropriate outfit while not astricting people to it.
A small observation that I would like to make is that white tie is not exclusive to the daytime. White tie in the evening just requires a different attire, which is the tailcoat.

Fair enough. I'm just not ostentatious enough to request my guests to wear white tie. It just seems a bit gauche to me. Ours was optional since I have relatives that wouldn't be able to wear black tie and I didn't want to exclude them, but the overwhelming majority of people complied and it was great. Most people either owned a tux or were attending my brother's wedding later that year and just went ahead and bought one. I think only one of my groomsmen rented one. I dislike renting and, while I would love to own a morning suit, I know that I'd never wear it again and that's simply unjustifiable for me. Never mind that I'd have to have convinced my wife to go along with it and our guest list likely would have suffered for it. While I lament white tie's passing, I'm not going to be the one to revive it.

Denim jackets are screwy with proportions because of all the washing and horizontal wrinkles they have. In my opinion, they skew things in a way that makes them not work out very well with high-rise trousers like that. Either the jacket could be shorter to match the waist or the trousers would need to be lower rise.
There is also the gap in formality issue by pairing it with wool trourers and an ocbd.
The trousers seem fine, the tie knot is alright, shirt is wrinkly but it is always going to end up like that after a day of work unless you use shirt stays.

But yeah when I have my wedding I’ll just tell people for whom morning dress is too burdensome to wear stroller (basically morning dress without the tails) or just a 3 piece suit or double breasted suit.

Business casual needs to die. At Wall Street men still dress the exact same but now in the above mentioned shitty ho him uniform, they want monotony and an equalizer that they can still try to outdo one another with.

On the other end, in Silicon Valley (where in a lot of jobs I wouldn’t argue against causal clothing) the business end of it now has men getting plastic surgery like women to boost their careers.

Trousers are nice, jacket is nice, tie is nice

Shirt sleeves too short, shirt collar too small, cuffs on the trousers could be pressed a little better, wrong shoes to be wearing (cap toe oxfords imo are too formal to be paired with chinos, you'd be better off with brogues). Are they black or dark brown? Black would be much too formal for this fit. Socks don't really go either

Overall 6.8/10, room for improvement but the general idea is there, the fit on jacket/trousers is excellent. You look like a functioning member of society at least, which puts you above 90% of /fa/ posters

Shoes are chocolate brown but seem darker due to shitty lighting, close to the shade of the tie. Might try the mid brown derbies next time. At the risk of also being insulted, as the other anon said, Albert Thurston, but also Sera Fine Silk and sometimes Drake's. Sera Fine Silk will be your best quality to price ratio. They also usually come with both clips and leather ends.

This faggot Dirnelli writes on his blog about it the following.
>Chester Barrie — Please, never confuse this with Chester By, some fused crap made in China that bears the same name. Chester Barrie Handmade, sold at Harrod’s and Saks, is one of the great unsung heroes of #menswear. And because no twentysomething i-gents know what this brand is, the prices are ludicrously low on eBay, with regard to the intrinsic quality of the product. Best kept secret not on the internet. The fabrics, cuts, construction and handiwork is all top top class. I only regret that, as with Paul Stuart, most of their SC’s are single-vented, which prevents me from acquiring more. I’ve got dibs on the double-vented ones that show up on eBay every so often…

I'd suggest getting either a pair of black slacks to go with a matching suit top, or otherwise just get something like black strong dungarees from Outlier and dress them up if you really want more of a chino look.

Do they not have dress boots or officer boot for men? A good, made in Italy, pair should cost 200-400 euros. If you want mtm and high quality leather you are looking at 800+. Dress boots are oddly proportionally cheaper than regular shoes.
