Ok fuckers, let's update this chart. It's fairly good but it needs some refreshment as some of the stuff here is mislabeled, discontinued, showing too much of personal biases of the author or even obscure. The structure is great and descriptions are good too, let's just update content to make it more relevant and helpful. We can maybe add a new 'uncoventional' category. I'd suggest following assumptions
>we keep the structure of 4 frags in each subgroup
>for each subgroup we decide upon 1 relatively cheap and accessible fragrance - <$1/ml if possible, so the chart is helpful for everyone
>2 mid-priced fragrances between $1 and $2.5 per ml, so we can have interesting and varied choices
>1 more expensive >$2.5 per ml (if needed), so we can have snice niche things
>we pick only well-rated things as recommendations and try to give the priority to frags that are widely discussed in the community and of well deserved status
>while we obviously try to make choices as eponymous of the subgroup as possible, there's no point of having fragrances smelling virtually the same or clones - like Aventus and CDNI
>we try to keep houses on the chart varied to reflect many possible choices in modern niche perfumery

Fresh category is more or less done already. Let's do florals now.

Combining many different flowers in a scent – like a ravishing, extravagant bouquet of flowers (rather than a dainty posy), giving a beautiful and overwhelmingly feminine impression, without any one particular flower being allowed to dominate. (perfumesociety.org)

He has two lines. A regular one available in shopping malls/pharmacies and an exclusive one available rather in higher end department shops/boutiques. Virtually every other designer does the same thing these days to reach both average Joe and average Joe who for some reason thinks that regular designer fragrances are beyond him. Think Chanel and Chanel Exclusifs, Dior and Dior Prive, Armani and Armani Prive, Mugler and Mugler and Mugler Les Exceptions etc. Probably you're comparing his more exclusive Private Blend with some regular designers and it's like comparing oranges and apples. Within the exclusive designer segment the prices are quite normal (aka completely overpriced for what you get).

Forgive me my autism but that's the last draft for this thread and we can from now on only discuss choices. Fruity floral is again dominated by purely feminine fragrances. I tried to balance it a bit with unisex-leaning ones.

FRUITY FLORAL DRAFT:
>Byredo Pulp (it's very, very strong on fruits but I think it belongs to this category. one of best byredos)
>MDCI Peche Cardinal
>Serge Lutens Nuit de Cellophane
>Hermès Hermessence Osmanthe Yunnan

CONTENDERS:
>A Lab on Fire What We Do In Paris Is Secret
>Pryn Parfum Hikari (tested it in Bloom but that's a bit similar case as with Zootopian's Chameleon - there's a lot happening here. lovely niche house worth putting on the chart though.)
>Tom Ford Fleur de Portofino (it's foremost fresh white florals, I also don't feel like we should include more than the most important TFPB - probs Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood would be enough)
>Hiram Green Moon Bloom (very snice coconut white flowers scent. great niche house)

IDK DUDE:
>Parfums de Marly Delina (that's like 200% feminine but solid fruity floral)
>Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique (quite fem)
>OJ Frangipani (it's very fem)
>OJ Osmanthus (same)
>Slumberhouse Sadanne (that's like mostly fizzy strawberry also Josh is a faggot so probably it won't be ever again available)
>Profumum Roma Acqua e Zucchero (it's very heavy on vanilla and the orange blossom is a faint smell. still a very solid fragrance)
>LAP Batucada (idk if we shouldn't rather include it in fresh florals)

>>15036365
Agreed. Especially with houses like Diptyque and FM we'll have plenty of other frags on the chart so I also feel the sentiment with skipping not their most popular ones (although Iris Poudre is snice).
Also I was thinking the same thing for Zootopian. Bee for gourmand. Civet for Chypre. Perhaps Camel for some Oriental. We might add 'uncoventional' category once we will be done with refreshing what we've got. I imagine handful of fun choices from Zootopian fitting there.

Sorry, I'm continuing. I'm pretty satisfied with this one. Plenty of very interesting niche choices that are at most unisex or even masculine-leaning. I wish someone would bring these to my attention when I was starting.

>GREEN FLORAL
‘Green’ notes – the leaves of a plant (like violet leaf), herbs, fresh-cut grass, mosses – and in particular a note called galbanum, a fragrant gum resin – can almost ‘cool’ a floral fragrance, adding freshness but also sometimes an intriguing depth. The ‘greens’ are fresher and sharper than most traditional florals: sometimes, they may be cleverly structured by perfumers to have a sporty and outdoorsy

I do think it’s quite underrated. It got some discussion here a few months back, actually prompting me to sample and eventually buy it, then basically nothing. That aside, though, it perfectly exemplifies “white floral” to me. It has many white floral notes, but even beyond that, the “supporting notes” very much add to the overall “whiteness” of the scent. I just think it’s one of the most archetypal representations of the genre, and that’s why it should be on the chart. If you wanted to explain to someone who knew nothing about fragrance what a white floral scent was, if you showed them Soleil Neige, they’d understand immediately.

Since I'll be doing basic Front of House at a local tearoom, I feel a nice fresh scent that's not BDC/DHC would be suitable. Just something more than basic citrus really.

Unless you live in a country where the fig tree grows wildly (as possible - eg. Greece, Italy, Turkey, Croatia etc.) a fig from the supermarket wont smell like anything cause its mostly plastic shit treated to last months on a shelve. Fico di Amalfi smells like a fresh juicy ripe fig fruit in a bowl with the finest citruses of the season. Philosykos smells like a whole fig tree from the bark to the leafs. They're two different takes on figs both beautifully done and great for the summer heat.

You know, I was working at a stadium and it was an 8 hour shift. I was working in the corporate area, on the gates and I was on my feet the whole time, greeting people as they entered and guiding them. But smelling them as well, smelling the same old Sauvage, Eros and 1 Million over and over. I was exhausted and I was sent on my break finally but I stopped at a bathroom on the way to the break room. As soon as I entered it hit me and it invigorated me, the smell of dirty piss mixed with urinal cake, finally something different I thought. I searched the bathroom for the elderly gentleman who had obviously bathed himself in Kouros to thank him for energising me, only to find that I was alone. This is how I came to realise that it was how Kouros came to exist.

Now that I'm thinking about it we should move RJ Savile Row to Floral Chypre at Chypres. There are not many masculine ones and that's a great cheapie. Tom Ford could potentially jump in (what's the biggest advantage of TF is their availability) but there are couple more things that are as good if not better archetypal representations Piguet, Lys 41 or Arquiste Boutonniere No. 7 (but this desu could be saved for Woody Floral) coming to mind. Let's put it there for now and see with how many Tom Fords we'll end up.

I went very quickly through Woody category and here are my quick thots.

Woody Spicy
>Burberry London (classic cheapie, let's keep it)
>Guerlain L'Instant de Guerlain (I actually never tried this one - thots?)
>Pierre Guillaume Indochine 25 (would replace it with Coze 02)
>Bois 1920 Real Patchouly (very good Bois)
>Nasomatto Duro (that's a solid one)
>CdG Wonderwood that's one of the most epitomic Woody Spicy frags

Woody Aromatic
>Lalique Encre Noire (obviously let's keep it)
>CdG Incense: Kyoto (it's snice but should we keep it if we'll include other CdG Incensess?)
>BdC (maybe it was a new thing back in the days of creating this chart but imo we should replace it with something like Guerlain Vetiver as everyone knows about BdC)
>Chanel Sycomore (vastly superior to Encre Noire but I always feel like it does the same thing)
>French Lover (I really think we should make place for it here)
>Santal 33 (same)
>Black Afgano Nasomatto (it's more Oriental Woody I guess though)
>Jovoy Les Jeux sont Faits (great Jovoy)

Woody Floral
>Amouage Dia (fucking goat)
>Le Labo Rose 31 (very solid Le Labo, we can keep it)
>Dior Homme (it deserves a place on the chart but I'm not so convinced that it is a woody floral)
>Rocky Montain Wood (I reckon it's discontinued, I'd put Arquiste Boutonniere No. 7 instead)

Woody Fresh
>Prada Infusion De Vetiver (I don't remember how does it smell - thots?)
>Creed Himalaya (I don't feel like we need this Creed - we'll have better ones)
>TdH (oh yes but not sure if I'd say it's fresh)
>Bulgari Blu (don't know this one)

Woody Fruity
>Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir (one of tens similar JM)
>Diptyque Philosykos (good choice)
>Olfactive Studio Flashback (idk dude)
>Baldessarini Ambre (never tried this one, seems ok)
>Jubi (maaybeee. not sure it belongs here as it's very oriental tho)

That being said, one should keep in mind that it's worth to first spray fragrance that you like on your skin and see how do you like after couple of hours as it develops. Drydown can be drastically different from openings but openings are what makes most of people buy stuff thus most of designers don't care that much about drydowns. I remember how disappointed I was in Chanel Allure Edition Blanche that has a 9/10 opening but then settles to the most generic lemon-vetiver ever.

Let me take you on a journey, friend. You’re on vacation in San Francisco, you return to your hotel but have forgotten your room number. You walk into the room of another guest by mistake. Immediately upon entering, you notice that a bunch of sweaty men are fucking on a bed shaped like a giant martini glass covered with sequins. YMCA is playing on a loop on the room’s sound system, a disco ball hangs from the ceiling, a large TV displays episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race. John Waters is sitting on a chair in the corner sipping a cosmopolitan.

Ultra Male is gayer than that room.

Chart-wise, we certainly aren’t going to delete the old chart and in my opinion we ought to still link it at the OP. With this in mind, should we not simply exclude every fragrance that was mentioned beforehand in order to open space for new ones, or would there be too many gaps?
We could modify the old one by adding an errata explaining which frags have been discontinued, which can be easily done by form of a symbol with a legend somewhere explaining its meaning.

I think that at some point the older one will get less and less posted desu, so it would be pity to loose some staple fragrances. Especially given that we keep the same structure, I can't imagine anyone looking simultaneously thoroughly through both. That's a lot of data already. The assumptions are to refresh it and make more relevant for the target audience (I think we've done a fucking job with Florals that were on the old chart mostly useless for a guy and now we've got variety of good things).
>>15038645
Yeah, we sorta got a full house (surprisingly) in the musk category. There's Nio and probably some other Xerjoffs will make it (Alexandria for orientals or idk Naxos for Gourmands).

Or perhaps we can keep Sarrasins and remove Etat Libre d'Orange Jasmin et Cigarette as this ELDO is really, really funky and Keep Bois et Fruits (this is the single most epitomic masculine fragrance of Woody Fruity category desu) and kick out Roja Elysium (the fruits here are really fresh and it's borderline Woody Fresh, so it might be more redundant). I've been trying to figure out how to identify notes (I just recently got into the fragrance hobby fully, used to wear it only for special occasions), figured it would give me a better appreciation for what goes into a scent.
That being said, I've always gotten this minor egg/sulfur-like smell from D&G Light Blue Eau Intense, Bleu de Chanel EDT, Acqua di Gio, Bvlgari Aqva, and CK One - I know everyone's nose picks up notes differently, but is this normal/what could this be attributed to? Is it the way my nose is picking up the citrus, or is this more in line with the marine/'blue' notes?

But as some of the other anons pointed out wouldn't it be better if there were two separate charts? Maybe designer vs niche/indie or something like department store vs boutique?

It'd be good but frankly I think that it's too ambitious for our small general (and involvement) to make that many charts of reasonable quality. It's really time-consuming and requires some thought if you want to do this well. Many people contribute bit here and there that I'm very grateful for but there needs to be one person to push it. I'm very happy if other people want to create other charts but for now I think the most feasible goal is to correct and refresh what we've got trying to stick with these assumptions >>15035634 in the process to make it as useful to the widest audience. After getting a first draft of everything I plan to firstly balance out coverage of some houses to make place to more varied and interesting things and secondly try to really have 1 affordable, 2 mid-priced and 1 more fancy fragrance in each group. This would be already a massive step towards accessibility to people without deep pockets/not living in US/Western EU and would mean that on the chart would be at least 30+ affordable/accessible fragrances. Not bad if you ask me. One of the hard pills in this hobby is sadly that often what you get is proportional to what you pay and it's not that easy to find a really quality cheapies worth spreading a word about. Also, I don't think that there's a point of making a chart only out of stuff available in every Sephora/pharmacy because frankly you can just go there and test of the most stuff they've got over couple visits. Btw if you're from the Czech Republic for sure you've got plenty of snice niche shops. I was surprised how many there were in Poland. Even in a relatively small town there was a perfumery with Amouage, Atelier des Ors, Frapin, HdP, Jovoy, MDCI, Montale, LAP, Piguet, Marly and many others. Just try to look what you've got around.
