Is this my best option for £100ish? I can’t really spend any higher and these seem to be talked about a lot despite the cemented soles. I just want to break out of wearing sneakers and dressing like a teenager.

The only boots I have rn are Docs and I’ve regretted them so much, too military for how I dress and just horribly uncomfortable to wear so I’m scared I’ll get this with every boot.

Coincidentally, I'm in the process of ordering a pair through Baker's. Had Kyle send me a few leather samples first, I'm leaning towards the black horsehide. It adds like 150 to the total but it's a tea-core, which I like- and it's tougher/less prone to loose grain than cowhide.

Total fashion newfag here, what would be the most versatile color of work boot?

Like I usually stick to either grayscale or earthy colours (aside from my non-dark/black jeans) for everything else, so I'm kinda stuck between brown and black boots.

Which color would be more versatile in general, would trying to "meet in the middle" and get a super dark brown pair be a good idea?

I always hear this, but I've had my docs for about five years now and they haven't fallen apart. I've worn them almost every day and the worst damage is in the form of some (admittedly ugly) creases. If you wanted cheaper shoes just do factory 2nds of a more reputable brand or have patience and save up for something that looks just as good but will last way longer.

They're a half to full size large- you can send a tracing of your foot to Kyle at Baker's and he'll tell you what size works best. I'm 9.5 Brannock and wear an 8.5 in the Barrie last, which is what White's uses for the MP boot.

I know that Red Wings are considered a meme, but what do you guys think of these work chukkas? I just got a job that requires me to walk around a lot both indoors and outdoors. There's a lot of mud outdoors when it rains, and there's a lot of dust indoors. I've also heard that it's supposed to be absolutely sweltering indoors during the summer. So basically, I'm looking for a lightweight pair of work boots that won't leave my feet sweating when it's hot out.

If you guys wouldn't recommend these chukkas, what would you recommend for someone in my situation?

>> No.15059949

>>15059904
I wouldn't bother asking this thread for advice unless it's about fashion boots. Red Wing is a good choice. Probably the best option if you're looking for a balance between price and quality of materials/construction.

Well I definitely want work boots, but since the work I'm doing is not very intensive, I still want them to look good. I personally like the look of these chukkas, but do you think there are better looking chukkas out there?

>> No.15059987

>>15059904
yeah, they'd be good so long as the sole is the vibram shit, I know red wing has some boots with the same style wedge sole made out of crepe rubber. If you're walking around in mud and wet conditions with crepe rubber, you'll be in for a bad time. Also, try some doc martens or solovairs, That's what I use for work in hot weather, and have no problems with hot feet or anything like excess sweating. Moreover, try and see if you're allowed to wear low cut shoes, this past summer I had to replace my doc marten boots and instead went with their oxford and they perform even better in terms of keeping me cool.

>> No.15060023

>>15059987
Thanks so much for the advice anon, this really helps. Can I ask what specific model of Doc Martens and Solovairs you wear? The only thing my work requires is that shoes be black or solid brown, so I can wear either boots or low-cut shoes.

My work environment is strictly steel-toe so I can't give you any direct recommendations, but were I in your shoes I would look at "tactical" or "duty" boots, which are basically just tall sneakers.
Heck, you could probably make do with a pair of Chuck's and some teflon spray.

/diy/ and /k/ are better places to ask about working boots though.

How many times can you actually get a boot resoled?
There's a whole lot of goodyear welt shilling, but wouldn't a leather sole attached anyhow combined with rubber sole protectors glued on be optimal since it would reduce cost and allow for infinite resoles?
