So I bought some brown brogues shoes and they're nice but they have a smooth leather sole and the heel is made up from rubber and some cork-like material. Where the hell am I supposed to wear these things? Little pebbles and sand get stuck in the heel and they're slippery as hell.

Let's try this, pic quality is a bit better this time around but lighting is still shit. No pose shenanigans cause that's what everybody's focusing on. Is it better to go for a slimmer or roomier overcoat? Left is navy right is charcoal.

I understand that at a low price all items are shit but is there a pretty solid brand to go with for oxford shirts for cheap? Would be nice if they had shades of white/light grey/off whites since I’m not really looking for blue and just white can be a little strong.

Don’t really feel spending £80 per shirt rn since I’m not a shirt wearer yet.

For shitkicking they are pretty good. You really shouldn't spend more than 200 on a beater shoe imo. I had to wear loafers as part of my school uniform for middle/high school and they always held up well to stupid teenager shenanigans but I also grew out of most of the pairs.

I much prefer the roomier one. In general, I think a belted overcoat will look better when roomier, as the fabric will bunch up in the back because of the belt and make your shoulders / back seem broader. It's a really flattering silhouette.

I have ordered their selvedge jeans and a pair of VBC flannels. I based the measurements on two pairs that fit me really well (Blackhorse Lane NW1 jeans, MTM worsted trousers) and the end result was really good. Nothing to complain about, especially for the price!

They are just ugly in my opinion: ugly last shape, bad plastic-y leather... Why would you want to have bad looking shoes every day? If you are American, I would recommend Grant Stone loafers instead for budget options, and if you are European, check Berwick, Carlos Santos, Morjas and Skolyx; Cheaney on sale is also very good value.

They get less slippery as you wear them and the sole surface gets roughed up. Way back when, people used to scratch the soles of new shoes to give them traction, or rather, they had their servants do it.

Optionally you can have a cobbler put topy soles on them, thin rubber soles which give a better grip and spare the sole itself.

For winter I wear a ocbd underneath a v neck sweater, a crew neck sweater or a shawl collar sweater, everything a combination of thick, cableknit or medium merino wool. For trousers flannels in muted colors, either double or single pleated, plain front and cuffed. For a jacket, a barbour for warmer days and a duffle coat for colder. Moc toe loafers, suede derby boots or oxfords. Here's a grid of an average day though not that /tip/
For spring and summer an ocbd, either white or blue striped, some pleated chinos and navy harrington. Loafers most of the time.
I'm also a uni student so it stands out without being outrageous.

90% of my stuff is thrifted, especially the "bigger" purchases. Coats, jackets, trousers and sometimes sweaters, are all thrifted, then I tailor them if necessary. All my trousers are tailored except 2 (out of 15 maybe). Alteration costs range between 10-20 euros for garments thrifted for 5-10. So total cost per item is not over 30. This leaves me some leeway to spend on new shirts and shoes, which I wouldn't recommend buying second hand. Shoes, sadly, I had to get accustomed to buying online since I can't get such level of quality, even the entry ones, for the same price. So I buy from Meermin (wouldn't recommend due to shipping time ) and Morjas (more expensive but arrived in 9 days). It's been 3 years since I've used this system and my wardrobe is more than complete, on the contrary, I need to get rid of some stuff. I have a lot more clothes than I post here, not bragging since all of them were dirt cheap. Really hope this helps

Only if you go to a decent university, and even then it's better to 'have' one than to wear one - i.e. buy it, keep it about, only wear in very cold weather. You don't want to be 'that guy' who always wears college gear but now and then is fine

The decent ones you get from the likes of Ede and Ravenscroft etc are incredibly thick and scratchy wool, so ideal for truly cold weather/cycling but cashmere is better for an everyday winter scarf

Also, a couple months ago we discussed how loafers with a higher crown look better than those with a lower one. This one’s definitely on the lower side of things. It is up to personal preference, though. Some argue that the low crown gives it a more casual vibe; to me it looks trashy.

In general fast fashion chains aren't a good option for footwear, MD is by far the best of them. But their only really good shoes are the Goodyear welted ones, those are made by Berwick and they retail them for 200€, get them on sales or directly buy from Berwick for 120-180€

Don't wear black polos, black is a formal colour and should only be worn at formal occasions. Black also isn't a summer colour and will heat you up. In my opinion shorts should only be worn if you're going to the beach, at the beach and coming home from the beach. The shorts have x lines meaning they're too tight, you can especially see this on the thigh where they nearly constrict your leg so go for looser fitting shorts. I personally don't like pink but I know others do so I cant really say anything about it other than if you want a loud piece go with madras shorts (preferably not patch work madras). Any 'better' alternatives to Sperry Topsiders, particularly in the UK?

I've a pair in dark brown which are thoroughly beaten through (soles coming away) after a few years of wear, and I wonder if there's a better made shoe with similar aesthetics - most boat shoes I've found are too 'old man-ny', with weird details/proportions etc, and seem even more cheaply made. I'm tempted to just get another pair but I wonder if /tip/ knows better
