Why is Antaeus up there with Kouros and Fahrenheit? The top notes were great but the middle notes were just a more refined pharmacy cheapo perfume along the lines of One Man Show and Lagerfeld Classic. The drydown was nice but nothing great. I don't get how this is put up there with Kouros and Fahrenheit, was it the first perfume to smell like imperial leather or something?

Judging by the OP pic, I figure this is fitting. I received a sample set from Rogue a few days ago and have had a few days to try everything out. Overall the house is pretty nice with a definite old-school feel, with many of the fragrances having a strong soapy, white floral DNA (Mousse Illuminee and Fougere l’Aube excluded). My favorites are Derviche and Tabac Vert, which I’ll probably buy bottles of eventually.

>Derviche
Solid oriental with a pretty nice labdanum base and a strong vanilla note. Labdanum is actually my least favorite resin (I prefer benzoin or myrrh), but its rounded out by the sweetness. During the first hour or two the sweetness verges on being sickly, but it never quite crosses the line. Bit of spiciness to round it out, but there’s nothing so notable that it can truly be picked out.

>Tabac Vert
This one really delivers on the vision I think Cross wanted for the brand. I’m instantly transported to a room in the 1920s or ‘30s, decked out with brass art deco decorations and waxed parquet floors – like stepping into a Leyendecker illustration. The backbone is essentially very similar to Derviche but definitely functions a chypre, BUT it’s made unique by the added spiciness of the raw tobacco, which smells similar to when you eat something with just a hint of cayenne or pepper flake: your mouth feels a slight hum of warmth just enough so you know it’s there but aren’t overwhelmed by the heat. That’s what the tobacco does here. So classy and elegant.

I’ll give more detailed notes on any of the other fragrances if anyone is interested. They’re all worth checking out as a sample at least. Unfortunately, Cross didn’t include a vial of the new fragrance 40 Rogue.

I also have samples of:
>all of Gallagher’s current lineup
>most of Imaginary Author’s current lineup

Candles are not as lucrative as they were before, and I do have some experience in perfuming and essentially a lifetime of experience in creating pleasant scents. Ok, those are the three green ones, so depending on which direction of green you wanna go will tell you which one you like best. MI is a fucking massive green BOMB -- is basically just pure natural oakmoss to the point where I honestly can't pick out other notes. The way I look at it Chypre Siam and Fougere l'Aube are the children of Mousse illuminee.

Chypre Siam has the same oakmossy base, but everything on top is what makes it different: imagine a high quality lime and jasmine milled soap. Fresh but also quite sweet. Good for spring but in a feminine leaning way, not the straightforward 80s manly greenness of MI or FA.

By strong do you mean performance or the scent? All the fragrances in the line seem to perform quite well with varying degrees of white-floral, resin, vanilla, oakmoss bases lasting quite long on the skin depending on which you pick. Chypre Siam in particular reminds me of the cloud emanating from a classic soap or candle store.

Probably Fougere l'Aube is what you're looking for then (if we're only looking at Rogue that is). You know how most fougere's don't actually smell like ferns, more just lavender/anise/licorice instead? FA actually smells like ferns: prehistoric, jurassic park, pacific northwest ferns. People on fragrantica compare it to GIT, but I've never smelled that, but I can say that I very much imagine this being at home in a locker room of a golf country club during the 80s.

But anyways, if you're in the US it's easy enough to get a sample set. I know I probably sound like a shill, but I respect the fact that Cross obviously has a vision of the fragrances he wants to make, and I'd rather give him my money than another corporation that might axe a fragrance on a whim.

Honestly, I don’t recommend gifting fragrance in general unless it’s someone you really, really know well. It’s not that there’s any kind of social taboo, it’s just that scent is very personal and very subjective and there’s a very good chance that you’ll get something they don’t particularly like, then they’re stuck with something they don’t want but will feel like they have to wear around you. It’s just too easy to get it wrong. I’ve bought fragrances for my mother, who I know very well and I know what she likes because I know what scents she usually wears. I wouldn’t buy for a friend or whatever unless I knew what fragrances they already wore.

exactly one week ago i lost a bet and i had to wear sauvage for the next week. now that 7 days have passed i have to say that my opinion on this scent has drastically changed.
like most of you cunts i hated it because i believed it was the epitome of a pretentious normie scent and i shift-conviced myself that it was bad and avoided it for the past 5+ years even though an ex bought me a bottle.
i was certain that people would comment on how much it sucks and how they smell it on every other 18yo child etc etc.
however after actually spending time with it i grew to appreciate it and now i see what it is that makes it so likeable to the masses. first of all my gf and every other woman i meet in my daily life loved it, none of them said anything about it being sauvage, in fact they asked me what i was wearing, this could be because i never wear too much fragrance, a good advice a guy once gave me was 'never wear so much fragrance that someone can identify exactly which one it is but wear enough that those around you can be impressed by it' which i took to heart, and it seemed that sauvage blended nicely with my body chemistry.
all in all it's definitely not a 'masterpiece' but it definitely earned it's rightful place among my dumb reach shelf, i loved the reactions and compliments and once i got used to it i started loving the metallic clean fresh vibe that it gave off.
a great reminder that when it comes to polarizing products one should test them and form their own personal opinions without paying heed to the words of others.

I'm upset. For general office wear last week I tried PDM percival, tf oud wood, ADG profumo, and reflection man. Not a word was said to me in what was the worst week ever for feedback. I needed something for the Friday and took a 30ml eros with me I've had for 2 years. I was too scared to apply it before work so, went to the gym during my lunch break and used 2 sprays when I got back. For what's its worth it smells tacky as fuck to me. Like cheap teenage sex and candy vomit. I got asked at reception what it was. Before I got to my desk I got stopped and asked again. Then the same bitch said she was only walking by my desk to see if she could smell it again. Then the oldhag matriarch of the office marched straight over and asked me outright what it was so she could buy it for her husband. Jeremy was right

Probably not, but if you're flying from a non flyover state, you'll likely have a good selection on the airport. Don't tryhard with buying European wine/spirits for Europeans mate. Marc Jacobs Bang, speaking of which I tried Spicebomb today hoping it could be a potential replacement but it just doesn't do it and it's way too sweet. I also sniffed a lot of perfumes today. I've tried Kouros and Antaeus often and I'm still polarised on them. I remember the time I walked into a public bathroom and I thought somebody in it had oversprayed Kouros or Antaeus but then I saw the bathroom was empty and I realised that it's just what they smell like. Yet part of me still likes it despite the old man soap smell. I also tried BdC, PE, Allure Homme Sport and Eau Sauvage and I think I just don't like Chanels at all.

Also, has anyone tried Versace the Dreamer? It's so soft and introverted but it's not feminine because theres no sweetness to it and it's actually a bit sour from the tea leaves. I'm gonna have to cop that soon.

I like The Dreamer too but I actually do find it gets sweeter and sweeter as it dries down, and projection is solid and doesn't strike me as introverted. That far dry down is very girly (but I like it).

The Chanels I've smelled (Antaeus and BdC EDP) are based. Both are well blended and refined. I like that Bleu can do the mass appealing blue with aquatic vibes without going into axe or "cologne guy" territory like Sauvage does. Performance is kinda meh but better than then go the headache-inducing 16 year old miasma route. Antaeus doesn't smell like a bathroom at all after the initial castoreum funk that lasts a few minutes. It just smells like a successful but separated 45 year old dad, or Freddy Mercury, but in a good way.

Jokes on you, one person who contacted Dior has been told that it has been reformulated already.

>This is a late reply, but I purchased the EDT Sauvage yesterday and noticed it smelled less peppery than my sample from a year ago. I was disappointed and called Dior's customer service and they told me it had been reformulated. I felt quite sad, plus I have noticed a lot of basenotes do not think it has been reformulated. But since I have made this discovery I just wanted to let you know that it has been reformulated.

I forgot to mention that the opening of dylan blue gets more compliments from thots on video reviews etc, it does smell great but the drydown becomes very synthetic and extremely mediocre while on the other hand adgp becomes better and better while radiating dominance and masculinity as time progresses.
So if you wanna smell great for 10 minutes go for db, if you wanna smell great for 10 hours get adgp, given that you want something in this specific category /family of course
