Because they are not happy with their body. You are aware /fit/ has a fasting general, right? And fitness IS interesting, YOU don't find it interesting because getting fit requires work and you are allergic to exercise. But there is a lot of interesting science behind getting fit and as a lifestyle you are out of the house more and meeting new people with similar interests. It also translates very well into interesting activities outside of pumping iron such as rock climbing, marathons, being able to go for long hikes and enjoy a deeper area of the wilderness because you have more endurance. Being active is more interesting than being stagnate.
