Thanks to the anon who recommended me this a few threads ago. Fresh floral with some incense, soapy and slightly salty, with slightly animalic notes. Drydown becomes very woody and oceanic. Great longevity. I'm very pleased with this fragrance. Considering how cheap it is, I'm surprised it's not more popular.

Black Orchid, absolutely nuclear performance that survives showers and can fill up a room with just two sprays. Eros and Pure Tonka also come to mind from the ones that I have tried. L O N D O N isn't a sillage or performance monster but it's a snice and it's cheap enough that you can be heavy on the trigger/reapply as needed desu.

Alright lads, on the lookout for some wacky new stuff.

Ordering a sample of Iron Duke, and some of the I Hate Perfume (they sound weird). Any recommendations for interesting frags? Not after things that are particularly sexy, I tend to like ones that smell like 'experiences'. TF Oud Minerale is one of my favourites, as it smells exactly like the beaches where I grew up.

4160 Tuesdays makes some very eclectic, fun scents. Eau My Soul is fantastic. Could also try Di Ser for something a little different. They’re a lab in Hokkaido that makes very natural-smelling scents using local botanicals. I have Tsuki and Kazehikaru and they’re both unlike anything I’ve smelled before.

Could try some of Lush’s frags. You’d think they’d be pretty safe and mass-appealing, but they’re mostly not. Very weird, wacky, interesting scents. Breath of God is basically melon and spearmint gum next to a bonfire. Very smoky and fruity, a little camphorous, very odd but strangely addictive. There’s no mint note, but I definitely get something minty. Won’t be for everyone, but very worth trying.

Got my MFK samples and I must say that I'm positively surprised after being disappointed with BR540/GS and all his Oud Moods.

I also got my Xerjoff and I'm really impressed with Mefisto Gentiluomo. It's a higher quality, better smelling, longer lasting SMW done the right way. Thanks for the recommendation to the anon who mentioned Mefisto as superior to SMW. Alexandria II is also mind blowing. Can't wait to wear it.

I'm pretty disappointed in MFK from my samples. I thought Eros was sweet, but BR 540 makes me insulin resistant just smelling it. GS smelled super woody in a bad way. Petit Matin is good for being a lemon-dominant normie "manly cologne" scent that avoids smelling like pledge, but still not that inspiring and performance is below average. Oud Satin Mood is the best so far. I can't remember what I liked about it; will revisit. Lumiere Noire is next up for a wearing.

Lumiere Noire reminds me one of Jovoy fragrances a lot but I can't recall which one. Maybe it's just due to the patchouli that seems to be the staple of Jovoy DNA.

Thanks for the advice. The packaging really wowed me, from the gorgeous tissue paper to the high quality of the sample cards, to the atomizers everything screams quality.

I went with Macaque first, and after getting it to give me a full spritz I was greeted with a big smack of cedar backed by tart green apple, with the frankincense and jasmine slowly coming into focus thereafter; of the base notes I think the cedar-y top-notes primed me to smell more of the cedarmoss because one of my female friends said she noted more of the musk (and she didn't say it in a way that indicates she found it pleasant, lmao). Overall I get a really woodsy and floral vibe off of this with the rosewood in particular shining through now that I'm hitting the 4 hour mark. Excited for what the future holds.

Macaque was quite interesting to me. I had never smelled galbanum beforehand but the description of the note it seems like that and the apple were dominating for me. Still super unisex but definitely has a floral undertone.

I have around 30 fragrances and I think it depends on what you want from them. Some things like Eau Sauvage I bought because I like to spray it in the summer after a shower. It prolongs the freshness. Is it necessary? No. Could I have spent my money elsewhere? Yes. But people spend more in a year on cigarettes than I have on fragrances in my life. Sometimes I’ll think I wasted my money, but I legitimately enjoy them and I don’t regret it. Then again, I have more disposable income than most so maybe that helps. It’ll take me years to get through them all, but I don’t mind. Respect to you for getting your priorities in order and not hanging on to them though.

I doubt any scents in the designer price range use real natural oud given the cost. I personally never found it abrasive or screechy. I'd say its a good designer version of TFOud Wood, which was never quite going for a wholly authentic oud smell itself.

Penhaligons sartorial. Bought it as an alternative to at the barbers because the latter has shit longevity and silage but was pleasantly surprised at how unique it was. Starts off very sharp and fresh, almost brut-like, dries down to a nice mossy/minty scent. It’s supposed to smell like a bespoke tailors on saville row, but it works just as well as an everyday scent.

finally arrived! Smells like an old tree with some lavender and smoke. None of the strawberry candy from cape heartache, but a similar but slightly different wood smell that's dry and a tiny bit sweetspicy from thecardamom. I like it

Also, just go to a perfume store and look around, try out some stuff and then ask for samples. Usually they'll load you up. Hermes, for example, gives you tons of 4ml samples of their Hermessence line. I have more Vetiver Tonka samples than I can deal with, saved me from having to buy that frag.
