All teens just care about brands. It isn’t until like senior year where they just ignore that and focus on the aesthetics

holy fuck the kids are so manic they can barely say what their clothes are without slurring the words. Especially the kid in OP picture

That's just the disgusting Finnish accent, I've been living in Helsinki for two years and the Finnish accent has to be one of the grossest fucking accents I've heard. Sorry Finns

Question for boomers:
Was fashion always like this and were literal schoolkids always so obsessed with expensive designer wear?

You faggots are once again late to the party.
We had the exact same shit with supreme/yeezy/bape ijn 2016 with the same nigger asking people at fashion weeks about their outfit and it quickly spiraled into a competition of how obnoxiously overprized your clothes can be (if we just accept them as real)
Nothing new to see,

This has been going on forever. Saying someone is late then talking about 2016 is peak pretentious brainlet.

How old are you?
Iam 22 and during my schooltime everyone just wore some old graphic tee's and those baggy jeans that always had that worn out wet bit sliding behind your heel. In highschool just vests and color coordination would be top tier.
Or those white chucks with the red stripe on the sole. Shit like that. Same concept of just doing the trend thing but way less committed and less retarded.
Most wouldnt even dress consciously tho desu

It hasnt been going on forever. Not even close to it if you wanna be technical.
Would argue that it was around 2016 that it hit mainstream and actual average kids turned into money obsessed fags
Can definitely be wrong on this one but cant imagine people being this obsessed by the logo much earlier than this.

People, especially teens have been logo-obsessed for decades
But kids spending thousands on clothing is a new thing, the "hypeshit" back in the day was a lot cheaper compared to today

You're as wrong as wrong can be, bro. It's been going on forever, there are even actual boomers in my family talking about similar shit. It's just human nature to have a significant amount of obnoxious, status obsessed kids who don't know better than to think airpods are part of an outfit.

Actually curious. what are some examples? I thought fashion before 2000 was still relatively hard to get into and mysterious. Alot of gatekeeping going on, no regular person was able to just give you a list of their 20 favourite desginers etc. I mean ofc there were some lucky ones being able to visit the Margiela shows or buy early raf or contemporary Rei stuff.
I just cant imagine being it this "normal" like it is since around 2016
If you have some examples of stupidly expensive status stuff I would really like to know.

Before designers you just got custom shit done. Besides, there are more things than clothes to flaunt. Jewelry is as old as anything, and watches sure as hell aren't around today for people to tell time.

>> No.14954025

>>14954007
Even then, custom made suits or buying a rolex had quality to it. You cant tell me every single one of those is a complete ripoff and the 20 bucks watch or cheap suit is gonna be just as good or better.
So aside from the status effect it had a purpose, right?
Supreme, Bape etc ist just a Logo
The non-boxlogo clothes tend to have really bad color coordination so its just worse than plain basics

>> No.14954048

>>14954025
The whole point is that it's a status symbol. You aren't buying it for the quality, you buy it because people know it's expensive. You have always been able to get expensive trash. Especially with jewelry, you're not really paying for anything more than the fact that you're paying a lot.

I agree with this.

I have worked in a clothing shop for years now & in the last 3-4 years I have noticed kids 12-18 dressing in designer shit.

When I was their age people were obsessed brands as well but more skate/surf brands, not Gucci or Louis Vuitton.

That's how the fashion industry moves. It used to be that even if a celebrity wore a certain brand people would not dive to get it. What I feel happened was a combination of three things: social media, celebrity cosigns, and gateway fashion.

The social media aspect is simple, people love to flex living beyond their means and if you are part of these social media channels you will try to fit in. Couple social media with ecelebs and mainstream celebrity endorsements and you have a loyal consumer base that is willing to chase that clout to be like who they look up to. As I said before celebrity endorsements and shilling for expensive brands has never really worked for the general consumer. It is something largely aspirational, what we did have are knock offs but you get easily called out for not having the real thing. What the fashion industry needed was a gateway for consumers to openly accept and spend every dime they earned on luxury goods. With streetwear quickly becoming the zeitgeist in fashion it's accessibility became a game changer for many luxury brands. One can easily afford a pair of Nikes and a hoodie and be welcomed into the conversation of what's fashionable. The bar of entry is set very low and brands saw this as a huge opportunity. What if they could collaborate with these pedestrian brands to come out with cheap diffusion products that only cost a few more dollars than what the standard version would cost? Then you get a flood of customers that would otherwise never spend money on your luxury brand purchasing things with your name on it. It's advertising and of you start engaging with the brand you might suddenly want mainline items. You're hooked then and it only escalates from there as you get more engrossed in fashion and the up market designer brands. Gucci and LV are talked about in the same conversation as Adidas and Supreme and so these brands try to mimic the streetwear aesthetic so it's more enticing to the general public.

>>14955764
The interesting thing to see is how these luxury brands maneuvered this new found attention. Brands like Dior, LV, and Gucci gradually stepped away from streetwear slowly switching the conversation onto high fashion. What once wasn't streetwear is now part of streetwear in the minds of the general public. Those Gucci loafers and trench coats are now hot in streetwear. These brands got to keep the general consumer in their pockets as well as their long time loyal customers. A lot of the 2020 menswear runway shows almost did a 180 from what we saw one or two years ago. In the minds of a 12 year old LV and supreme are one in the same and are "essentials"

I'm 27 and in my elementary school days we wore jeans or cargo shorts and a fucking t shirt. Fuck! I don't know a single person who buys designer shit even today. It could be the part of the US I live in though.
