Same here. Lazy eye, crooked nose, asymmetric (permanent) eye bags - all things I only notice when my reflection is flipped.

However potential cope: when I see mirror images of my friends' face (i.e. the reflected perspective they're used to but I'm not) they look hideous. Maybe it's less that our true visage is objectively horrific and more that we're taken aback by the unfamiliar within the familiar

How you look in phone pictures is not how people see you.
The focal lenght of a phone's camera creates a fish eye effect that distorts the image in a way that it makes you look shitty.
The focal lenght people see things is 50mm. That's how you see yourself in the mirror.

this image was created with the camera at different distances from their face to ensure that their head stays the same size as you can see by the distance measurements. If you take a shot with a phone camera at the same distance you do with a 50mm your face will appear the same but will take up far less space because the overall field of view from a phone (generally 28mm focal) is far wider

furthermore people do not 'see things at a focal length of 50mm' but that ~62-50 degree field of view is why 35-55mm lenses are generally considered in the standard focal length catagory

the perception of your face has nothing to do with field of view or focal length its literally how close you get to your face or not so stand further away from your mirror, dingus
