I had a Kamakura shirt. Quality was fantastic, materials were great. Only issue was the fit. The armpits were so high it was uncomfortable to wear. Ended up giving it to my brother. I think it was just that that particular fit didn't fit my body. They have like three different slim options alone.

Carmina has much better quality than Meermin, especially when it comes to the leather they use and their quality control. Carmina's leather generally ages much better than Meermins (less weird creases, better shine etc.), and I have never had any concerns with Carmina's quality in stitching, heel stacking etc. whereas I have had multiple problems with both the Meermins I have had.

That said, Meermin is still the best brand in its price bracket in my opinion with other made in Spain brands like Morjas, Skolyx and Myrqvist. But to compare it to Carmina is just silly.

I wouldn't rate Edward Green as high as, for example, Vass. EG mainly uses Goodyear welt while Vass shoes are handwelted. I think EB are also handwelted though.

I could be wrong, but I believe it is a Drake's tie. They typically release a "tumbling squares" motif every year in various colorways. You can either browse what they've got out now, check ebay for older Drakes, or alternatively check ebay or etsy for similar designs. A lot of Drakes more modest ties are just a redux of the classic repps, stripes, and foulards that have been made since forever. Quality ties are probably one of the easiest items to thrift/ebay.

Fair enough, I guess I just got lucky with my Meermins in QA terms. It probably helped that the ones I have aren't their standard leathers, as well – I've only bought MTO shoes from them.

Search Ebay or Etsy for e.g. "Drake tie", "repp tie", whatever pattern or maker it is that you want. There will be a certain amount of garbage, you have to get used to letting your eyes slip over it.

On Ebay at least, you can also set up alerts for searches/items you're looking for, to see when new items come in.

I do not have experience with the two other makers, but yes, I believe Berwick is behind the Swedish brands I mentioned. Berwick is generally quite good from what I have heard, although I have found their leather quality to be a bit subpar (just one pair of shoes, so poor sample size) on my loafers. Their lasts are also quite wonky at times, but that could also be a case of some online shop doing MTO on the wrong last (looking at you, A Fine Pair of Shoes).

Berwick on sale is a great purchase, you can get them for 130-140€ at El Corte Ingles. Much cheaper than the Meermin's, which are made in China and never go on sale, they have a big overcost and that's how they are expanding that fast internationally. Also, Berwick runs a premium line, but is harder to find
