I dressed normie and didn't belong in any scene when I was young, but I thought the scenes and music were either about emotion, feelings of disenfranchised youth or not fitting in, and maybe some of the edgier subcultures had spiritual elements or misanthropic, bitter views on humanity. That's what it seemed like back in the day and the way I remember it, the average depressed looking edgy dude dressed in all leather either felt that he has no representation in the political system, or hated politics and politicians altogether.

You lot in this thread are making it sound like these different lifestyles were all just variants of regular fag loving commies who happened to have a distinct taste in music and clothing, but that's not the way I remember it and I frankly don't believe you.
