You should start to noticing silhouettes and how cut plays into that in fashion.
For instance, don't wear structured shoulders since they'll add bulk to your shoulders. For a shirt, wear more raglan sleeved clothes since they'll draw the eye downward.

If you have a small waist wear more voluminous bottoms: skirts, straight/mom jeans, etc.


If you want an idea of what cuts can do to change silhouette look at Yohji. You'll see that his wide cuts allow for more flowing slihouettes.
Here's my advice (from a repressing tranny): when looking at clothes, detach yourself from how you think you should look, or how you want to look like the models of the clothes. Focus your eye on what the clothes do to the person's silhouette. Not much you can do about your body shape (this is why I won't transition) but you can change how your silhouette appears.
