14733850 No.14733850 [Reply] [Original]

people a lot of times say that i remind them of a cartoon character or that i look 14-15 even though i'm actually 19

i'm afraid that people won't take me seriously in the future if i dont change something and make myself look more serious and mature

this is the most similar pic i could find, i have the same glasses and the same haircut just with wispy bangs

i'll appreciate any advice :)

Embrace femininity; wear dresses and pantyhoses. Wear higher-quality fabrics; ditch all polyester stuff. If you can, embrace collar shirts. Don't fall for the weak collar blouses or those that you need unbutton three buttons to wear (and expose tiddy). High-quality leather shoes and boots may elevate your style (but leather is high-maintenance (!) read up). For jewelry, less is more: Don't plaster yourself with those 10$ mall-tier bracelets. A decent ring and good earrings are enough (small single-pearls are always nice). Other than that, stay healthy and sporty. Don't buy into fad but find your own timeless style.

While I do understand why you want to look older, I also advice you against trying to look too old all the time. It will make you look intimidating and unapproachable. We men can simply smile all the time to counter that, but if you do so you will attract every single man in a 5km radius who will think that you are interested in them.

Heels ruin your knees.

Your boots have a rugged look to them. If it's real leather, it's probably buckskin, very sturdy.

I was thinking of penny loafers and/or boots/chelseas in dark brown. Maybe from a higher-quality leather.

Meermin WAS once a good supplier with very hard leather and good build for the price. But these years, they are hardly worth the price. Look into what and who is behind the brands. My (m) supplier of choice is Carmina and dear cobbler friend from Italy.

Get to know what makes a leather shoe good: Goodyear-welted, real leather (sometimes even full leather) and handmade are only marketing terms now. Goodyear-welted says nothing about the construction, real leather could be a tiny strip of leather, full leather could be malnourished leather, and handmade could mean that someone held the shoe under a machine for 3 seconds. Educate yourself: The rules that apply to men, apply to women to some extent, too. https://www.meermin.es/en/catalog/category/view/s/se-ora/id/21/ Take this link with a grain of salt and look for versatility. Anything captoe is per se a middle-ground in formality. Hard brogueing is informal, quarter brogueing is acceptable for what it is. Black is more formal, dark-brown more versatile. A smooth-clean surface that you can shine with polish is more professional than a rugged shoe. Etc.

The biggest change I've noticed as I too have transitioned from peppy, cheerful, youthful styles to a more mature (though not fully there yet, I suppose) style is silhouette. For example, I loved circle skirts as a teen. They had such nice sway and made my waist look thin while not focusing too much on my pear-shaped hips. Alternatively, as a young adult, I choose high waisted a-line skirts because they still have bounce, but at a much more subdued level. A-line skirts elongate your frame, create an hourglass-esque shape by cinching your waist and adhering to the curves of your hips unlike a circle skirt would. There are a ton of examples of techniques like this. The best advice I can give you is to look at celebrities and other adult woman style icons. Compare and contrast the ways that these looks are composed versus outfits you would have worn as a teen. And maturity doesn't necessarily have to mean sex appeal only either. Creating a confident, mature, long, and powerful silhouette doesn't have to include skin-tight clothing. It's a principle of balancing fits. For example, you'll notice that most women will follow some kind of formula, like so: A) tight fitting pants + flowy shirt + heeled shoes or boots + (optional) long/dangling jewelry [or] B) tight shirt + tight pants + flowy cardigan or outerwear. It's all a balancing act with a steep learning curve. Start being a little experimental with the combos you have in your wardrobe and try to fill out any staples that you're seeing reoccurringly from these icons.

Overall, the other anons are right. Confidence will be much more imperative than what you wear. Examine the way you carry yourself, maintain direct eye contact and make an effort to eliminate over-apologizing and passive language. You can do it, anon.
