Former student here: Let me be brutally honest. Don't buy polos. You can wear them on sunny days and not on colder ones. Buy used long sleeve collar shirts. In summer (and when the fabric allows it), you can roll up the sleeves and look dapper. In winter, they keep you warm. You can buy absolute high-end shirts used for 10-40 bucks. They will last a few more years in a rotation of let's say, 7 shirts.

Today's outfit, tried this combination for the first time, I am a bit unsure about these pants with the boots, because they are longer and cuffing them seems retarded. I usually wear these boots with jeans or with a pair of tan chinos that are shorter. Do you think they wrinkle too much because of the boot?

Cuff of pants too high, yes. I cannot really criticize the fit without going into personal preference:

>Jacket seems a tiny bit too short (does it cover the ass)
>The pants could fall better
>Shoes seem big and bulky, right size?
>Tie?
>>14731462

A bigger (more classic) size would immediately redeem the fit, don't you think, too?

>> No.14731486

>>14731477

What would be your preference of the cuff? I've never had cuffs smaller than 5cm, I thought that would look odd.

The jacket could be slightly longer, I agree. About 2cm, maybe, but I can't really do much about it anymore. It does cover the ass, but a slightly longer jacket would drape a bit better. That said, in the pic I am raising my arm to take the pic and that makes the jacket look a bit odd.

How can you say that the shoes are not "right size"? Serious question, I mean, you can't do much about your foot size being what it is. These are UK9 and fit me perfectly. I rather like more bulky shoes like these with the thicker rubber sole and norwegian welt. I have some sleeker oxfords but they aren't getting much use, and moreover, I don't think they fit such a country look as well.

>> No.14731494

>>14731486
It is not about the cuffs' size but how they are not resting properly on the shit with say, a quarter or half-break. The effay fit is like you are wearing, it seems. Still, I would always opt for comfy resting pants with a break. The cuffs themselves are fine and give a little weight to the pants. Everything else is fine, really. The shoes just looked somewhat big. Some people get their size wrong, and some people's shoes look bigger then they are because of slim fit pants. Good fit.

I understand what you mean, my pants are really quite no-break or a very slight break. I like a fuller cut and more break with flannel trousers, heavier tweeds etc that drape well, but with cords (especially since these cords are not that heavy) I like less break, since the trousers tend to crumple and twist quite much.

I was looking at suits and tweed suits last night. Lots of sites say they have the tweed woven in Scotland. GUYS.

In tweed jackets (sporting jacket) am I being retarded here...

Look at my picture. Some of the jackets look like they go in at the waist and have slim arms leading to a large cuff area. The other 3 jackets look different.

Is this just how they are on a photo? Due to how the jackets are placed or do these jackets actually differ?

>> No.14732023

Yes.
The thing about the sleeves is entirely about the photo angle. The sleeves don't bell at the cuff.

As for the cut of the waist, that's just the difference between a sack cut (or just a fat-guy cut) and the classic structured English tailor's cut.

Oh thanks, that makes sense. The jackets on the mannequins always look so odd to me with the appearance of huge weird cuffs.

I usually search for vintage tweed, 70s and onwards although I am guessing most of them have the sack cut look, isn't that a traditional look like ymm, reviewbrah style, it can just look odd because of the popularity of slim fit today.

Plus tweed jackets are meant for clothing underneath so they should be a bit bigger on you than a usual jacket.

I'm really still learning.

Haha no, I am talking 70s era onwards for vintage tweed jackets based on the classic country tweed/hunting/sports jackets. Not 70s bell bottoms!

Most high street "tweed suits" cost a few hundred and still have a polyester mix in them and made in china. Vintage means 100% wool even with cashmere blends, viscose or even silk lining and by actual European tailors. If you are lucky, for the price of peanuts too.

I just thought some photos looked odd when searching but I understand it's really just the angles.

I wear full gentleman style and techwear. Depends on the situation. I think it's fine to enjoy different styles.

The sleeves are too long, rolling them inside can work I suppose but can also look unnatural. Always go for jackets that fit your arms, they will usually list short/regular/long relating to that or measure your pit to cuff and get the right size.

To tailor the sleeves isn't that expensive as long as the buttons on the sleeve are just buttons and don't have actual buttons holes or the jacket must be shortened at the top of the arm and is harder.

Still, you want to avoid extra costs so get it right the first time.

The jacket length looks about right, most of those are that length, the shorter jacket is a more modern thing.
The fit would be improved by a waistcoat or sweater to make it slightly more fitted.

Jacket is at maximum length for you. I like the classic touch it gives you. Could be 1 or 2 cm shorter, but keep it like this. The length suits you well. Your jacket's shoulders are very wide (I don't know the English term). Looks good, though. Personally, the sleeves could be shorter (with 1 cm of shirt sleeve looking out) and a bit tighter. Other than that, I would rather you wore a Pants with a quarter to half-break. Then again: Your outfit is very cool and I like seeing your fits from time to time. Nice development.

Why be a troll in a good thread? The first step to clothing, at least good clothing is to check the material. If some guy here wants to waste money over a jacket that uses what is essentially a plastic lining then go ahead.

All cheap clothing uses a man made plastic lining. A $40 suit does.

At the very least you want a viscose lining. barbour often does not state if their wool is even new. Wool can and is recycled. So wool clothing can be old cheap recycled wool. 100% new/virgin wool has not been recycled.

Not American, by thew way.

In that case I guarantee you that it's part of their Made For Japan collection or whatever they call it, along with their slim-fit cuts of the classic jackets (yes, they have those now). Basically, the Jappos have shit taste and love this particular species of shoyuboyu faggotry and there are so many of them that it's profitable to cater to their shit. Sort of like Gucci making most of their loafers in a "just fucking step into it lmao, fuck the heel lmao" model with a folding heel because ay-rabs can't into wearing a shoe that isn't a sandal.

>The jackets on the mannequins always look so odd to me with the appearance of huge weird cuffs.
That's fair but no, it's just a look. It's like how modern selfies make people look weird, it's the same lens focal length thing, people take these shots with their fucking phone. The jacket itself will be fine.

>I usually search for vintage tweed, 70s and onwards although I am guessing most of them have the sack cut look, isn't that a traditional look like ymm, reviewbrah style, it can just look odd because of the popularity of slim fit today.
It depends *entirely* on the decade and the use case. Some 1920s-1930s jackets on shooting suits are cut extremely generously over a svelte waistcoat to accomodate poacher's pockets and the motion of raising the gun, because they didn't have action backs yet at that time. Most sport coats meant for casual country wear with-out shooting anything will have the structured cut with the pinch waist, however; that's the traditional suit cut for anything not a hunting jacket, including tweed hacking (riding) jackets. Classically Huntsman were considered to be the absolute foremost at this cut, but they've declined badly since about the mid-80s and at present Henry Poole is regarded as clearly superior.
Also, the structured cut isn't remotely the same as slim-fit, especially not as applied to a heavy tweed as was available in the 1960s and earlier. Not even close. However it *is* the quintessential English style and contrasts with the American sack cut (immensely popular for sportcoats among Ivy/prep aficionados: sack cut, natural shoulder, unlined Harris tweed 3-roll-1 is the typical Ivy cut) and the classic Italian cut (also structured, but in a different way).

I think jeans look very good with brown, green and grey tweed, corduroy and moleskin jackets. Also good with something like a barbour. Denim is a very rugged material that looks great with other heavier cloths. With something more refined like worsted wools or wool twills, it doesn't really wok at all, but it is at home with tweeds, cords, shetlands etc.

That may be a bit unorthodox for some, though. I think denim goes fine with the preppy/ivy way of thinking about clothes. Just make sure the jeans are a good, high-rise cut that isn't too slim. Something like LVC 501 1955's, Blackhorse Lane NW1 or Edwin ED45 is quite good in my opinion.

I generally like them very much for fall/winter, if it is dry and there isn't much slush/snow. Cream/white trousers work wonderfully well with almost all jackets and sweaters. Colder shades of brown, grey, navy, richer blue, tan... Works with everything. And they look wonderful with colorful shetlands like rust, burnt orange, moss etc.
I like thicker cotton twills and cords in cream for f/w. Cavalry twill and flannel are very good as well, although I prefer them to be a bit darker as they are a pain to clean.

You're a grown man right? Anything dressy will probably look old to high school kids but since you're their teacher and a grown man its okay to dress like one. I recommend white dress shirt with button down collar, High rise slacks. Pick really any color since the white shirt but it doesn't hurt to start with classic colors: Brown and gray. Add a tie if you feel like it and a blazer or sport coat if the weather permits. Navy blazer or maybe a sport coat with a modest pattern. For shoes you could go with loafers but their too casual imo. Derbys strike a good balance of formal and casual.

Which pair of footwear should i get first, oxford shoes or oxford boots? I have been looking around meermin and the likes and there is only a couple models that fit my criteria (half/quarter-brogue captoe or wingtip) going for 170, and the boots for 220. They are obviously from their "standard" line, as there is no black oxford on their maestro line that fits my foot, unless their lasts are strangely big like NPS. This line does not guarantee leather soles, for one. Personally i am not that keen on dainite soles...
Any other recomendations on the price range? I am going to check the local Carlos Santos retailers to see if there is any model under 300, but i am not optimistic. The closest berwick retailer is in Madrid.
Pic related is their oxford boots, clearly with dainite soles.
