As a kid in elementary school everyone wore Nike. Nike and others didn't make my shoes size, only New Balance did and even then it was only by mail order. So I wore New Balance and was then literally beat up at school almost daily because I didn't wear "proper" shoes. I even wrote a letters to Nike and they replied basically saying it was not economically viable to make my size available. After all this abuse I final forced myself to wear Nike that didn't fit just to end the torment, as at the time the pain of walking was less then the alternative. That lasted for a whole year till we could afford new shoes, as the pain got worst to be near unbearable 2 months as walking hurt more and more and likely didn't help my feet grow correctly.
This made me regret caring what people thought of me, and helped shape my NO F***s given attitude that influenced my life for better and mostly worse.

I still get bad reactions because I only wear one type of shoe for everything, but it is the best one give the selection of size 6.5, width 6E. I am glad they now have it in brown as well as black, so I can change things up.

But why is there such hate to start with?

I just came back to /fa/ after about 5 years of not browsing this cesspool and assure you that this shoe is trash in almost all applications except a few very niche looks that can only be pulled off by select body styles. You can just look at the shoe and tell, and if you cant, back to basics.

as someone who is very knowledgable about this shoe, it saddens me to say that the quality is declining with each iteration. 990 v2, v3, v4 , and now the v5. each one has gotten a little bit cheaper, a little shittier in materials, a little less cushion, etc. they are cutting corners so they can keep the 'made in the usa' label on it, but making it as cheaply as humanly possible. they got rid of the nice pigskin lining, got rid of the abzorb cushioning. its certainly not worth the $170 they are charging.
