Garbage leather, fake welt, made in china, you're paying for the name and name alone. Their made in England line is good but Solovair manufactures them for Doc Martens and you end up just paying a premium for the doc marten branding.

Buying used or thrifted vintage docs. You really gotta think though: What would you rather get, an overpriced product that will fall apart after a couple winters or spending an extra $50 for a product that will last and look better with age? If you're just trend hopping like a lot of college kids, by all means buy chinese docs. It's not like you'll wear them after "alt" culture is out of vogue.

I did the same thing. Twice even like the dumb teen I was. I bought oxblood docs after my first year of college, leather cracked mid second winter making them effectively useless in bad weather. I replaced them with a pair of mono 1460s. Same thing happened to them. After those shit the bed I sprung for 8i Solovairs instead. Those are headed into winter 3, I haven't been kind to them either. I wear them to shows and to work all year long. They've been covered in beer, vomit, slush, dirt, mud, whatever you can think of. They are still going strong with very minimal signs of age. I don't even take special care of them with boot balm or anything. Just been wiping them down with a damp rag any time they've gotten extra fucked.
