He may interchangeably do like the picture, or do what you wrote, yes. I think he might do that, on casual fridays, but he would be unlikely to go tieless, at least often. He seems to like ties enough, to a certain extent, that he would prefer to wear one.

Well I believe he would just follow what every other employee would wear to "fit in". So don't think about what Bateman would wear, think about what Price or Allen would wear.

There are only two parts in the book where Bateman goes out and he isnt wearing a tie. At one point, he wears Armani jeans and a white Polo shirt, and when he kills a little boy at the zoo, he wears a t shirt (Comme de Garcon, I think) and faded jeans. Both outfits would be too casual for the office. In every other part of the book where Bateman goes out somewhere, he wears a suit or at least a sportcoat and slacks, always with a tie.
