They are correct yes, The hat was meant to be worn according to the uniform of a Catholic priest, but since most of us aren't that, I think wearing a regular suit or blazer may be sufficient, instead of a cassock. The wearer ought to have some more religious wisdom than usual, as well, for the effect.

I use hats as functional tools. I have a wide brim straw hat for when I'm working oudoors, or fishing, in the summer (I've had skin cancer, I need the protection).
I wear a ball cap when I fly (I'm a pilot) to keep sun out of my eyes.
I have a fancier "Planters" hat, for when I'm on the golf course.
For winter, I have a trapper hat, with earmuffs, because cold. I also have a milspec watchcap (like a beanie, but more robust, and not as faggit looking) for winter conditions.
I use hats for function, not a fashion statement.

I'm not sure about the last part, but their beards look normal to me, for ones o those lengths. They are the kinds of beards that mainly younger guys in their twenties could grow, versus higher on the cheeks, I think.

I found this photo. Apparently, this is what their non-long haired, less shiny or matte fur felt looks like. These are basically round like bowler hats or uncreased open crown fedoras or cowboy hats, and probably a bit too low crown to do much with in terms of shaping, except maybe a couple of slight front dents or maybe even one up top. Wearing one open crown is the intended effect.

Oh, do you wear that style of hat, or are they almost unseen in Catholic circles, nowadays? I thought one of the Popes banned it in the 1960s, maybe with Vatican II? How do you feel about "civilians," that is to say, non-priests or even non-Catholics wearing the style? Are you OK with that?
