This thread is about the appreciation of utterly amazing and truly stunning timepieces ($500,000+) and the sense of pleasure that comes with relaxing with a couple of lines of PCP while enjoying your utterly amazing and truly stunning timepiece, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make an utterly amazing and truly stunning timepiece.

I probably should’ve worded it better. Misuse the watch, not the movement itself. Most problems with Amphibias are:

>hey guys I forgot to screw the crown down and took my watch swimming and now it’s broken wtf I thought this was supposed to be a dive watch

>hey guys I bought an amphibia from a random turkish ebay seller with 94% feedback and it arrived DOA fuck you vostok shitter brand

>hey guys I followed a youtube guide and modded my vostok and now its all fucked up what do I do

You will still occasionally get QC issues from the factory, but buying from Meranom is reliable and they will fix any problems. The main problem is the slow Russian mail system so you will wait a while to fix any problems.

No. Any watch brand that advertises on youtube gaming channels is no good. It's like a college that advertises for students: Full Sail? Devry Technical Institute? Stay away.

That particular watch you posted is a chonograph. But because the subdials have no indices it's impossible to read, making the whole thing useless.

But I think it's okay to own one crappy quartz watch, so long as it's cheap. We all need a beater.

>>14608999
Assuming this isn't bait, it's shit and I'll walk you through why. You see how the subdials and date window are all cramped in the centre? That says they've used the smallest, cheapest movement inside they could get their hands on and stuck it in an oversized case. Also good luck using those tiny, unmarked subdials for literally anything. Next is the price. You can get the exact same watch - not a copy, the exact same - from aliexpress for 1/10th the price. MVMT and many other "fashion brands" buy their watches from China, mass produced from the same off the shelf parts and often built in the exact same factory. Picrel is $10. Finally, the most subjective part, is the design. It looks tacky and shit. Minimalism isn't inherently good, it's actually one of the more difficult styles to get right as you need to be very tasteful in what you subtract. I'd describe that thing as "reductionist" - doing the bare minimum possible and disguising it as artistic intent. Look up the bauhaus school (not bauhaus watches, the art movement as a whole) or old braun electronics and see if you can tell the difference between those and this.
If you're looking for a cheap watch read the poorfag guide in the OP

I wore this Vostok Amfibia once a day for about a year, took a year break from it, and have now gone to wearing it daily. Great watch, really durable. If I have any complaint it's that the bezel doesn't click and is simply tension rotation but for the price it's whatever.

Removed the stock metal link strap and replaced it with some random NATO. I replaced that with a Crown and Buckle Supreme NATO and the quality difference is such an improvement over a standard NATO I can't recommend it enough.

Chinks are going to crush the Swiss within 20 years. It’ll be another quartz crisis scenario.

At the low end you have Chinese mushroom brands putting sapphire glass and NH35’s into $40 watches (Seiko still puts hardlex and NH35’s up to $400)

At the high end you have all the Seagull orbital tourbillons and Beijing(?) resonance movements etc.

China is the world’s factory and can make extremely precise stuff. The only thing stopping them is their past image of making cheap crap (which Westerners demand). Japan had the same image in the 70’s and they overcame that pretty well.

Rolex will survive, but a lot of the entry/mid range Swiss brands will face stiff competition. Most of the Germans (Sinn, Damasko, Nomos) have only been around since the 90’s and have already shaken things up.

The whole Swiss entry level is basically just ETA 2824. If you can buy one for $300, why would you buy a watch for $2000 with the same movement? There’s no value add when compared to Germans (Damasko use the same movement but at least they have their case hardening, anti-mag and crown tech to justify the cost) or China (legit tourbillons at $1k). You can argue the finishing is better, but it’s just a few more operations on a CNC, not any handcrafted artisanal stuff to justify the extra cost.

I honestly do like the Kamasu for what it is, especially for the 120click bezel, sapphire crystal, and the F69 movement. Only downsides are the meh at best bracelet, the crown being a bit small for my meaty fingers (In comparison to the Gen 1 Ray and Mako that have an amazingly comfortable crown), same issue that i have with my NY0040.

But there isn't a white version of the Kamasu from what i've seen, and Meranom's SE models are basically available at random and are a limited number so checking his website is the only way to grab one. But are much cheaper than microbrand watches, and in case of servicing getting a 2415/2416/2432/etc movement is cheap.

Their advantage is cheap labor. Think of how expensive it is to service even a relatively basic 3 hander anywhere in the West. Now how much would it cost to employ Swiss watchmakers to put together tourbillons all day at one of the high end houses? Labor costs are why the cheapest Swiss tourbillon starts at $16000 and Chinese start at $600. There will be a difference in finishing of course, but it's not a super complicated thing to manufacture as the Swiss will lead you to believe. And there are many people on WUS with Seagull tourbillons that have run fine for years, it's not really a polished turd.

Incidentally, the Swiss started out the same way - cheap labor costs and automation. The British were once the kings of watchmaking until the Swiss moved in, undercut them, and basically wiped out their industry.
