Aesop Hwyl - quite good, but people with allergies won't like you. It's kinda like being near some freshly cut timber and working with the sap bare handed
CdG Zagorsk - 30 min performance :/ The first 5 mins is like being in a european church surrounded by forests
By Killian Light my Fire - loving it. This is really like being near a fireplace. Might cop in near future
Diptyque L'eau des Hesperides - lovely japanese mandarine. Would cop.
Diptyque Vinaigre de Toilette - stunning. I expected to smell like a salad, but this is far from it. You smell vinegar for the first minute or so and then lot more comes out (especially incense). Will cop for sure.

So I tested most of the Rogue samples I got. They're all well blended and smooth but unequivocally dated. Probably because the prevalent oakmoss+carnation accord most of them are built upon. Definitely for 40+ crowd and I'm saying it as someone who loves New York Intense where oakmoss is playing the first role. However, somehow Nicolai managed to make NYI modernsmelling unlike Manny from Rogue. All of them but Flos Mortis and Champs Lunaires are very masculine (and maybe 40 Rogue is leaning towards unisex because of the strong narcissus note) but I must say that these two are very snice and I wouldn't mind my gf wearing them. I'm surprised to say that because I thought that I hate tuberose smell and it's the strongest note in both of them, but I realized now that what I hate is tuberose+gourmand accord (think cocoa in Atelier Cologne's Tuberose). Champs Lunaires is a bit more mature but Flos Mortis is very girly. I can write more detailed notes on everything but I'd suggest testing MI or Chypre Siam as these two will give you a good feeling for the brand. That being said, I'll probably sell my sample set but it was defo worth testing how the natural ingredients smell like - not thaat different from what is offered on market to be honest. So /frag/ friends, the end of summer is here. The back to school ads are on and the sunflowers are gone. The nights are cool and I've worn lavender for the first time in a while (L'Occitane EdT). Here was my summer roto:

Diptyque Philosykos EdT: The classic niche fig for people who do not like typical freshies. Fig dominant with some wood and coconut. My go to for scorchers (paired with sunscreen)
Diptyque Eau Des Sens: Most long-lasting Diptyque I've tried. Fresh and soapy orange blossom that feels like you've stayed in a Spanish hotel. The white floral makes it feminine while the juniper spice makes it masculine, genderbender imo
Terre D'Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche: Watery orange. Can feels astringent (like cleaner) sometimes to my nose, but the gf likes it a lot. Most mainstream and strong out of these.
Hendley Blonde: Most complex and multi-faceted here. It did better on my skin in the spring, but it's a leather suited for the summer that dries down to a wonderful fruity floral

Citron makes it fresh, lavender brings this clean comforting barbershop quality and together with vetiver makes it really masculine and classy and elemi gives it depth. Mindlowingly good stuff that I really should stack a couple bottles of.

I know nothing about fragrances and very rarely wear any. Haven't bought any smelly stuff for at least a year and a half, pic related was the most recent thing I bought and I've only just used the last of it.

I want to get into this stuff a bit more, I think something subtle and understated and not too tryhard would suit me. I liked pic related but maybe it was a bit too much and there was a scruffy boomer manager in my work who wore a fuck ton of it every day which kind of ruined it for me - everyone described him as 'the guy who wears loads of cologne'

Came with a handwritten note from Victor, too. Liking both a lot so far. Civet is much more wearable than I thought it’d be. More florals and coffee than animalic funk. Squid is super interesting. The opening actually smells kinda gourmand in a weird way. Not sweet gourmand, but kind of a weird salt and pepper potato chips thing, but with this dark, inky, marine sort of thing. Never smelled anything quite like it. Very snice!

Great packaging and presentation, too. Zootopian makes some weird stuff, but they’re a great house.

Ok, I love the drydown on Civet. The florals settle down a bit, and the resins, citrus, and spices start to come out. Getting a bit more of the Civet, but it’s still not screechy or funky.

Chanel Sycomore is the best vetiver I have smelled.

Im not sure if its skin chemistry or if certain vetiver molecules turn me off, but most vetiver fragrances I have tested eventually develop into this sharp, medicinal scent that I describe as smelling like bandaids. The only 2 vetivers I have tried that dont smell this way on me are TF grey vetiver and chanel sycomore. I recommend both. They have similar qualities on different budgets.

P.S. CDG hinoki is super bandaid-y and medical but I adore it. Idk wtf it is about vetiver that doesnt work for me.

What's wrong with them? Aqua Velva is a good understated scent, and I mostly just wear it when I want to smell "nice" without putting in too much effort or using up my more expensive frags. I wear it if I'm just going to the store to grab something real quick, for example. I had an idea for a frag that I think would be pretty cool. The inspiration was from traditional Szechuan cooking flavors. The idea is kind of a spicy oriental gourmand. Sichuan peppercorn, star anise, nutmeg, vanilla, but not overly sweet vanilla, coriander, some bitter citrus rind, maybe bergamot, pink pepper, black pepper, ginger, then probably some tobacco, patchouli, sandalwood, and something boozy, maybe cognac.

I want something spicy, a little sweet, peppery, citrusy, and fiery. The name I came up with was “Year of the Dragon”. Might even work as a Zootopian scent if they were willing to go with mythological creatures. Have a cool Chinese dragon on the bottle.

I was in the market for a cheap whatever fragrance to wear on mundane occasions when I didn’t feel like reaching for something expensive and decided to give this a second chance because it was $20 on amazon. The reformulation is actually a lot better than the original was. The lemon pledge smell in the opening is toned down and you actually get pineapple and green apple. Dry down has a lot more vanilla and rose while maintaining the smoky birch smell people seem to like. Longevity isn’t as good as it used to be, but it’s fucking dirt cheap so fuck it. I’m actually kind of impressed with Armaf

So one thing everyone should know is that notes doesn't mean that the corresponding ingredient was used in producing the fragrance (but often this is just the case). Notes breakdowns as one sees them on fragrantica are some nose's impressions on what the fragrance smells like. This might be the case that they don't use civet as an ingredient but rather recreate the smell using some other accords. >About Kouros: natural civet I think only in the formulations from 81 to 85. Then it was all civetone from 86 to nowadays. I don't know exactly the year, but I think it was by the mid 80's they stopped using natural civet.
I'm glad that they don't hurt the little bois and found a good replacement though.
