They don't understand just how much it costs to go down your career path. 65k was cheap as well, I know a friend who needed £125k in the UK. Most learn in the Raf or Military for a reason.

Go the cheap seiko rought, the guys right. Get the speedmaster later but navi is nice to, they are for different tastes but the speedmaster movement is pretty bulletproof. Rolex GMT would be good to but maybe not a first watch.

Late reply but yes, absolutely. A single sudden hit will damage the winding stem, but is you always at the end of the day set the watch on a hard surface crown down you can slowly blow out the keyless work. Now this was a problem in the old days, so I don't know how much modern movements, or quartz movements with somewhat flexible plastic mainplates will be affected.

Also fuck entire /wt/ for being devolved into a circlejerk of mindless consumer bugmen.

I was about to answer it last thread, but by the time i woke up were up to a new thread.

If the crown is recessed there is a good chance that a light blow won't do much damage, especially if it's a screw down crown. However if the blow is hard enough to damage the threads it'll likely damage the movement nevertheless. I think the worst i've seen is the stem and crown threads breaking from a direct hit on a ceramic tile, alongside with both the crystal getting cracked and coil flying out of place.

Also in most cases keyless works on simple watches are some of the more solid pieces of the watch, though they rust the most frequently as that's the main ingress point.

Does it bother Rolex owners that Tudor is proof that Rolex watches are highly overpriced?

About the same level of finish, and the case is even better finished on the tudor for some models. ETA or In-house Tudor movements are about as accurate and reliable as Rolex. None of the movements are decorated much at all, so there isn't much difference at all to speak of.

Different brand tho... So a rolex is like 2-3 times as expensive, but NOT 2-3 times better by any stretch of imagination. Which ultimately means that it's that much overpriced for what it is.

But it's not obviously better in anything but the movement, and even that isn't particularly better. It might be slightly better in some ways but the finishing is about the same, the material is the same, same factory and build. Dial might be better or more exclusive on most rolexes tho. But it's not very obvious at all that Rolex is better specs for specs and material/quality-wise. They SHOULD be almost the same price when you ignore brand recognition. Whether you want to admit it or not, you are paying a LOT more for just the brand, and maybe a couple of minor differences in quality.

Yes it's very close. 1 or 2 seconds per 24h difference maybe, both will keep excellent time forever, highly reliable and cheap to service. It's about the same. You can't argue that the Rolex movement pounches much harder than a Tudor movement, you just can't, because the differences are almost non-existant, and defintely not meaningful to you unless you want to brag about that 1 second of difference (if you even have a second difference at all to speak of).

But ok, let me say this, even with the admittedly MINOR differences in quality, that are basically so minor that they are basically meaningless, you are still paying a SHIT load of money for just the brand, as you seem to agree on. Is it not kind of weird to think about how cucked people are with the brand recognition?

a $20 bottle of wine is 10x better than a $5 bottle. however a $200 bottle is 15% better than a $20 bottle. is the $200 bottle worth it?

a $30k new car is 5x as good as a $15k new car, a $70k car is 20% better than a $30k car...is the $70k car worth it?

You are wrong, the part when someone "realizes" that Rolex is worth it after all, are just them being transformed by the watch enthusiast community. Enthusiasts are sheep and they tend to follow the opinion of the masses, just like everyone else is in most things in life. Rolex is doing great reputation-wise. And you are wrong about me on where I am in the cycle. I have been at the Rolex enthusiast state for many years. I still like Rolex. I don't hate them. I have owned Rolex too. I don't anymore. I am at a state where I don't care as much about watches anymore (I still care some of course), and I just think to myself, why the fuck do we pay that much more for a Rolex when alternatives aren't much, if any, lesser? I know the branding is the reason, but most people don't want to admit it. The best example to prove this point is GS. Shit brand, but much better watch in almost all respects. Price on the product is based on the brand.

Guys, I'm 18 and just finished my summer job, looking for my first watch.
It doesn't have to be a chronograph, don't really care.
My budged is about 100$,
It can be quartz, something to go with sharp casual clothing. Leather strap prefered.
I very much like the style of the watch on the picture.

This but I’ll add I was never into modern Rolex. The vintage pieces are what attracted me but finding a good matte dial sub with original dial and hands was difficult. Not to mention that 5512 and Red 1680 prices skyrocketed. This led me to take another look at modern Rolex since what I wanted was an everyday watch that I could actually take on dives. Not something I’d have to baby like a red 1680. After seeing and holding the modern sub up close I decided to go for it. No ragrets. The newer bracelet is awesome and the latest 3135 movements are proven tanks.

silver / steel might be more applicable than gold, particularly if you wear those tones elsewhere (necklace, earring, belt buckle, etc.)
silver+black strap might look generic compared to a bolder gold+leather, but it will tie more fits together and in general makes for a better all-around fitmaker / compliment
i saved getting a gold tone watch for my second, although I went with the gold band because I'm gaudy it still compliments earth tones well

>Should I ask the local watch serviceman to do that? All I ever touch is the crystals/screens, bands, pins

Assuming what were talking about is general button stiffness and not contact issues with the circuit, you might as well try it yourself. I haven't done it with any old Seiko chronographs but i did so on some old Landeron chrono and this couple of the 3133's i had a few years ago.

Silicone grease acts like lubricant for o-rings, and usually works fine for metal pushers even if they don't have any o-rings. I might have a few pictures of the Landeron pushers since it did have ancient o-rings that were in good enough shape to be left alone. You might as well ask the serviceman, though i suspect even a small dose of WD-40 might help.

>> No.14566865

>>14566850
Yeah, it's not contact issues. I can't see any o-rings but I'm sure your suggestion is spot on. I've got a work meeting in town so I'll ask the nearby watch place for a quick $10 job.
I really appreciate your help anons, should've asked earlier.
I've got a silver A134 arriving tomorrow that I bought just for the spring bar as its something like 1.25mm. It's got a broken circuit so I might be replacing that and I'll have one of each colour then.
