Used to be great. Since they were brought out by Swedish company they've just peddled overpriced stuff of middling quality. Some pieces are worth buying imo like the double decker (I got it in green for 300 in a sale) however I can't see any reason to buy their shirts or blazers. They used to run a Gant rugger brand which was sort of modern preppy but I can't see it anymore in the site so maybe it's defunct.

I've progressively been stocking up on unlined Ratio OCBDs, because muh purism, but I overlooked the details on the most recent and accidentally ordered an interlined one. I actually really like the thickness of the collar and placket. This is still "soft interlining", mind, not fused at all.

I think they're both good, I have both period Brooks Bros OCBDs, and soft lined (but not fused) shirts from Kamakura and also 1960s period stuff (I found out after flipping the collars after wearing them through) and they both make for nice collar rolls.

The softness and the completely anarchic roll you get from true period Brooks Bros is really something else though.

Try vintage. You might be surprised by how modern the fit can be. I just bought a 60's brooks brothers blazer and the fit is absolutely spot on. Jacket hem reaches to the bottom of my bum though which, whilst ideal imo, isn't exactly modern. Other features: (high arm holes), straight/slim cut (i'm a 40 inch and the jacket is something like 42 inches) and narrow sleeves. My only issue with this is the short sleeve hem. I'm hoping to get that tailored. There should be at least half an inch of extra fabric for that right?

It's like you don't know quality. They're indistinguishable from other high street brands IMO. A pair of quality chinos won't have elastane (that will loosen over time) and will have extra fabric on the seams on the inside to allow you to let the trousers out. Quality chinos will have nice, natural buttons and an after dinner split (something you might find on iconotex chinos). They most likely won't be made in Asia at an enormous factory.

What you mean to say is that j.crew chinos are adequate.

I'd go with higher rise pants, as someone's mentioned before. Or maybe, just pull them up, it seems your belt is really loose, kinda makes everything look sloppy. Try a braid belt, or canvas belt, if you're going for a prep look. Also, I'd suggest a heavier sweater, that's maybe half a size larger. The color isn't ideal either, it's a very inoffensive grey. This isn't true. J. Crew will pretty often put some of their nicer stuff on sale or offer coupon codes on full price items. Try Beams Plus Japan or vintage as the other guy said, 60s stuff can be pretty modern in cut. The Japanese stuff tends to have the proper details (sack, 3roll2, 2 cuff buttons, sometimes hook vent) but they might be a bit short for taller gents. I think END and MrPorter carries them but I think you can get better deals just finding them on Ebay (I see a bunch of them on sale right now). Other japanese brands that might have them are soutiencol, septis, and rugged museum.

Free delivery for orders over $138, which is like 2 shirts, duties reimbursed in the form of a voucher code. Even with ~20% VAT in yurop, I feel like it's a pretty decent option.
It's best to buy them in their NYC store, I made the mistake of only buying one when I was there and I've worn the shit out of that shirt. 5 years later it's pretty frayed unfortunately, I hoped to get more wears out of it but considering how much I've worn that shirt it's probably not that bad.

Measure a shirt you already own and get luxire/shirtonomy to make it. Or just go boggi, or harvie and hudson, or Drakes factory store in london (if you live in London.)

Not sure why you would want to spend lots of money on something as basic as a blue dress shirt.

Blue OCBD is absolutely central to me. It is my favourite kind of shirt (although blue/white uni stripes comes a close second).
My kamakura isn't quite perfect though. The collar is great, but I'm not entirely happy with button placement, too high armholes and too slim a fit (it also shrank a bit after washing), too short. I have some other shirts from late "Lean Garments" which usually have nice baggy body and good length for tucking, decent button placement but imperfect collar. Bottom line is, I don't have a perfect shirt that I'd be willing to replicate x10 with luxire and I'm afraid a frankenstein shirt is going to be a complete mess.

Just go for it, it'll definitely feel a bit awkward at first. Just remember to treat them as you would sneakers, i.e. dress them down, wear them out, don't act too affected while wearing them. I've been wearing them since I'm about 20, get a few stares every now and then but also compliments sometimes. Same thing when I wear my mid-high wasted, brown, wide wale corduroy trousers or neon green shaggy shetland sweater. You get used to it.

Middle class people should not wear prep/trad/ivy.

I'm a medical student. My dad is a data scientist/computer programmer. My mom is a quatitve analyst/mathematics Ph.D/quant.

My parents are rich but I'm only like upper mid if I had to guess. Guess that's what I get for following my dream and becoming a teacher. Wouldn't trade it for all the money in the world tho. You should. I see people dressing prep/ivy/trad at my (Canadian) university. Simply, by looking, without speaking to them, I can spot a middle class person dressing prep/ivy/trad.

Can Canadians at top 50 universities in the world dress prep/ivy/trad? Or is prep/ivy/trad reserved for Americans at top 20 universities in the world?
