Pretty sure most people would agree they are, as long as they're not huge untrimmed bushes

It draws attention to the eyes and can even save bad ones, makes a nice separation between the face and hairline (like a tucked shirt with a belt), and it adds some nice ruggedness for men who chooses not to (or can't) grow a beard
