formal clothing is inherently unfashionable. societal elites and culture that is produced by and revolves around wealth is no longer cool. High society intellectuals and artists are no longer the gatekeepers of culture. Culture doesn't trickle down and hasnt in about 15 years, it starts from marginalized and fringe society members and is distributed online.

As a result, most designer clothing, especially european, is reactionary. Cheap and accessible clothing is the root of trends in design, and basic garments get reinterpreted by the only designers able to stay relevant, like the Yeezy combat boot or Japanese-made American military homages. This board has an inherent tragic flaw - posters on the fringes who aspired to belong to the runway fashion elite, constantly trying to define what is "/fa/" and what is not. The lens of this board was aimed at a quickly declining status quo and as a result, is at this point almost completely irrelevant in the real world.

gothninja exists as a subculture only because it impresses losers that grew up watching video games and jerking off to children's anime. it looks cool and edgy to them. when gothninjas post a photo on the internet, they are in control over the lighting, composition, and content of this photo. they can emulate an aesthetic seen so many times growing up in comic books/video games/movies etc. for this reason, gothninja pictures look cool and edgy to the weak, pale geeks of the world when they come to sufu, or 4chan, or stylezeitgeist, or pinterest, or thefedoralounge. when you take them outside this frame of reference, and capture someone trying to posture as "gothninja" while walking down santa monica boulevard with a slice of pizza in their hand, it becomes very obvious how pathetic their charade is. they lose control of their aesthetic in the real world and it's sad to behold. so instead they avoid being seen eating pizza, and try to slink around in the shadows smoking cigarettes, sending their mom to buy groceries so as not to be seen with luncheon meats in their hand. they avoid going to the beach because they know it's impossible to perpetuate their carefully crafted image there. it's like a symphony of spaghetti, and it makes me cringe. Reply to this post or your mother dies in her sleep.

Yeah you’re right. Welcome to the next level of effayness, or whatever. Once you realize this you can spend a lot less on clothes and still look good

Marginalized and fringe “cultures” = Instagram algorithm bubbles curated by global corporations selling you trash products made by 3rd world slaves.

Fashion is about style, clothes and trends come secondary.

Yeah it’s all about wearing what you like really. And if you wear stuff that you think is funny you’ll find yourself like a year or two ahead of the trends

You're drinking the Kool aid. The current streetwear trend is a way to bring peasant culture to a new low and do so in a way that is comical to the elite. The goal is to further separate themselves from the masses. They are laughing at the idiots who aspire to buy $800 dad shoes as their "grails".
