Don't buy reformulated frags. Anything released before 2012 is suspect. Pre 2010 is no go for me unless the price is low or the reformulation is especially well handled.

The real redpill is looking at parent companies. For example, Chanel is self-owned, and their current reformulations of their classics are agreed to be quite good. By contrast, YSL is owned by L'Oreal, who also owns Viktor & Rolf, among others. Guess what YSL and Viktor & Rolf have in common? Both houses have had classics (La Nuit, Spicebomb, etc) ruined by reformulations.

You're right, ownership is certainly important to consider. Most people aren't autistic enough to research these things, though. L'Oreal are definitely shit and with them purchasing Azzaro this year, it will be important for fans to stock up on Azzaro pH before changes occur. Chanel are also not perfect; many of their reformulations such as Sycomore and Coromandel EdP are decidedly subpar.

SOTD: Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca.

Beautiful mix of citrus, mint, clover and light woods. Smells like a verdant spring meadow.

Not a projection monster at all but surprisingly tenous on skin and fabric even in this heat where I'm sweating my ass off.

Not a frag to SLAY PUSY in, maybe boi pucci because it's soft unisex. But if you appreciate fragrances for how they smell and not what Jeremy says they should do, it's well worth wearing. Also surprisingly inexpensive.

Chanel and Guerlain are fiercely protective of their formulas and constantly try to improve them in the face of changes and restrictions.

Thierry Wassler is fantastic and a godsend for Guerlain, the current formulas for Vetiver and Heritage are fantastic.

Chanel doesn't get enough credit either. PM, PMC and Platinum Egoiste have all been updated in the past two to three years and smell amazing.

The problem is no one hypes these frags because they aren't loud room filling SEX PUSY COMPLIMENT GETTING CCCCCHHHHHEEEEEAAAAPPPPPIIIIIEEEEESSS and you will never see Jeremy coercing a sex traffic victim into saying Guerlain Heritage gets her wet as the light fades from her eyes. I try and do my part to generate interest on reddit and here, because the reality is if companies see no one buys what they put effort into there is no reason for them to keep doing it.

Thats why I am thrilled Chanel has BdC. I can't stand it, but it's massive success takes the heat off their other less popular classics and helps subsidize their sales.

I wish Guerlain would get their own BdC but I think the European and Latin American markets are doing ok at keeping them afloat.

>Tuxedo

there's a story to be told. of good and evil. a cosmic schism, a wild funnel where the point of singularity, the only escape is only the beginning. the story is true and it's become a cold tale told in warm places. a story of the eater and the eaten. people speak of ysl. yes, they speak of the house and it's cherished, it's glistenings. of it's revered, always it's revered with that air of sophistication, of softness and care. something complacent and beautiful and has made a custom of turning it's back on it's wicked dealings, it's past it hopes to forget in the silence of death. this has become futile, because in the years since the tremor has only become more violent, and in these years they've learned to disregard the hunger. they've starved it but is doesn't die. it only becomes hungrier... and in it's place they've become a symbol of regality, of sterile streamlined luxury in a white room. le vestiaire des parfums they call it. simplicity and elegance. a swooning dance in sweeping silk on a bed of vapors... a dream even. all in vain because it's been fed only the best, and it's never known a want. it's slept ceaslessly, carelessly above the earth where at it's center spins in pangs of hunger and fury, of agony something brutish. they say it may come later. but later is now, the hour is now. it's been a matter of then but not now and then is now and now has been here forever... and they say to always remember that saying said only in the dark: "Tuxedo is the mother, Kouros is the wolf."

A mother? A wolf? Really dude? Have you been that removed from actual masculine figures in your life that you believe this shit?

Even from a literature perspective the phrase makes no sense because of phrases like "a wolf in sheeps clothing" meaning a wolf would be more likely to smell like Tuxedo than Kouros.

>Does anyone know if the samples are exactly like the actual thing or if they differ?
The only difference (as long as it's legit) is that sometimes because the samples are in smaller bottles with smaller atomisers you don't get quite as much spray coming out as a bigger bottle, can sometimes mean where you would use 3 or 4 sprays from the sample, 1 or 2 will do for the bigger one.

>> No.14478657

So I got a gf recently, and when she was sleeping over for the first time, she noticed my fragrances and went ahead to smell them. She smelled the following, along with her impressions:
>Ferrari Light Essence
she really liked it, said it's a nice, easy smell
>Versace Pour Homme
she complimented me on it when we were on dates and I had it on, so she was like "ah, that's the fine smell you have on you when we go out"
>D&G The One
she was fucking blown away by this, she said it smells amazing and sprayed some on her arm. It was nice to smell that when I was fucking her later lel
>Versace Eros
she didn't care for it, she said it's way too empowering and cloying. I kind of agree, I think I grew out of it or something. Might sell it later.

Works in all seasons except balls hot summer unless you're indoors all day. A little too formal for a jeans and t-shirt outfit but works well with everything else. >> No.14481155

you need perfumer's alcohol to dilute it and carry the scent. most perfumes are sold between 11-18% concentration. i think pure 100% essential oil is pretty rare since many fragrance ingredients are strong irritants at that level

i copied some old /frag/ anon's simple advice from years ago, but never got around to trying it out:

"blend fragrance oils and essential oils to about 20ml, then add about 110-115 ml of a carrier oil (e.g., sunflower or jojaba) or perfumer's alcohol (but vodka would work too). the key is to start with a good "fixative" which is usually the base note"

>> No.14481168

>>14481155
cool thanks!

>> No.14481171

>>14480959
Way more to it than that. For one, you don’t want to use essentially oils directly on your skin undiluted. You need a carrier of some sort, probably alcohol. You also need a much more methodical, consistent, repeatable method than just adding drops in and stirring. What if you make a great frag? Will you be able to reproduce it? Will you be able to tweak something that’s almost great without ruining it? You also need a stabilizer so the scent doesn’t break down and lose its potency within a few months. Also, many ingredients used in perfumery are considered hazardous materials (due to toxicity/being caustic in high concentrations, and also due to flammability), and require a special permit to ship.

It’s also just generally much harder to make something that smells good than you’d think. You can’t just throw together whatever notes you think might be good, you have to keep track or exactly how much you’re using, use the right versions of notes to get the desired effect, use proper fixatives and stabilizers, etc.

It’s honestly much more work than you’d think and probably more expensive in the long run than just buying frags you like.

>> No.14481200

>>14481171
damn, that's a good point about using the right versions of notes.

I just thought it owuld be cool to make a really basic two or three note thing, but i guess even basic notes could smell weird if the version was too medicinal or something

>> No.14481212

>>14481200
Yeah, that’s the thing. Let’s say you want, say, sandalwood. Ok, well there are hundreds of different sandalwood oils and perfumery notes available. Some are cheap, some are expensive. Some are only sold in relatively large quantities. What do you do? Just order like 10 different ones and try them all out? That’s gonna get expensive, especially given that most of it’s probably gonna wind up in the garbage.

Honestly, just get some simple Demeter/Jo Malone scents and layer them.

Very few here actually have knowledge of a very high end niche brand like that. 65% of anons here stick to designers. Of the 35% remaining niche fags 30% have their budget maxed out by grey market TFPB/Amouage/CDG. 1% of posters or less have put their noses on MDCI. So it may take a couple threads to get your answer

Well yeah, I mean, imagine thinking that girls just have weird holes in their bodies that you stick your erect penis in. It’s fucking bizarre. Like, if they had a hole in their body like that, wouldn’t they just bleed to death? It doesn’t even make sense. Sure is fun to think about, though.

I wonder how the whole “sex” meme got started?

Why don't people talk about Parfums de Marly Percival more? Its a smoother version of the original A&F Fierce formula, greay citrus muskiness to it. If you like Fierce, Platinum Egoiste, Xerjoff Kobe, Dior Homme Cologne or Orto Parisi Bergamask, you'll probably like this.
It's not stunningly unique but it has the same quality and mass appeal as Layton, and it's available at steep discount online. I wouldn't pay retail but I'm able to get a bottle for half price which is a good deal for the scent. Strong performance too, around on par with the modern formula of Kouros projection and longevity wise.
I know I could use other fragrances as an example but I know this will trigger the autistic poster to spout some shit about how this isn't a wolf fragrance.

His scents are hilariously overpriced.

Years ago he started with small 50 ml bottles. Now he's at 100ml and the price doubled. With every other house in existence the larger bottle is never double the price. If you pay $1/ml of the small bottle, you pay .6 to .8/ml of the larger bottle.
Not this fucking hack. And after that shit, he raised the prices even more. A bottle of his scents were 120/100ml last year. Now this fucking hack is charging 150 and up. And it's not due to an increase in quality. The bottles are basic, the packaging is basic and the scents themselves are so tilted towards heavy aromachemicals they smell like a niche version of a Sephora in JC Penny's. Fuck this guy.
I actually recommended his Bergamust for a while, but I got it years ago. I checked out his page to see what he had new and was embarrassed that I hyped any of his shit.
If you want to try actual American perfumers with talent who aren't price gouging pricks, try Dame Perfumery, Neil Morris, Olympic Orchids, Shelly Waddington and even Zoologist. The last one is Canadian but close enough. Do not fund Gallaghers ISO-E super overdose induced delusions of grandeur.

I got to try it in Amsterdam last time. I didn’t love it. It was nice enough, but seemed very generic to me. Nothing about it really stood out. Just seemed like your standard fresh spicy/citrus/aromatic frag. Nothing at all wrong with it, was nice enough, I just feel like there are better options in its price range (or cheaper, for that matter).

Honestly, though, I haven’t really been blown away by any PdM scents. Even the “classics” like Herod, Pegasus, and Layton don’t really do it for me. Maybe just not the house for me.

>> No.14484369

>>14484356
I largely agree with you, to be honest. I do have and love Bergamust and Amongst Waves, but I got my bottles before the price hike, and even then, they were maybe a bit overpriced for what they are. Haven’t been impressed with anything else he’s done.

Just wanted to let people know in case someone out there wanted a bottle of AW or whatever. Just wanted to save some of my /frag/ bros a little money is all.

Also, to anyone who likes Bergamust, try Tuxedo. Similar in that they’re both very smooth citrus/musk/fresh spicy scents, but Tuxedo is so much snicer and more versatile. Prices are comparable as well.

Layton is an absolute monster, its the only one who smells unique AND fucking amazing smelling AND performs beast mode. Galloway is literally soap, Percival could be literally any one of 5000 orange/lemon frags, Oajan is christmas cookies. Herod is an amazing blend of cinnamon, tobacco, and sweet vanilla. Carslile is a great blend of creamy almond, though its difficult to determine when its appropriate to wear. Have not yet tried Sedley yet.
I am thinking about getting some Nasomatto. Hindu Grass, Baraonda, Duro, Black Afghano, and Pardon all sound fantastic. But for the samples it would cost 270$ Thats nearly two full bottles from Nasomatto.
