Anyone have opinions / recommendations about what's left of the CdG Olfactory Library series?

The Tar and Garage sound interesting, but how "leafy" are the leaf ones? I loved the initial plant-like smell of their Amazingreen, but that disappears in all of five minutes on me.

Take it from someone who has spent way too much time and money in this hobby. I have smelled and tried many many scents. La nuit is not just the worst, it is the worst by multiple standard deviations. I never tried the original but it is truly no exaggeration when I say you will get 30-40 minutes max. My skin isn’t a sponge either I get hours and hours of everything else. Anyone who says otherwise is truly and honestly delusional. I’ve tried two separate bottles just to be sure. You are pissing your money. Just buy Eros or sauvage. Last time I’m going to talk about this piece of shit frag I’ve said it like 5 times.

When he’s good, he’s really good. I think his “10 fragrances for the rest of my life video” shows him in a good light. He just obsesses way too much over superficial things and impressing women. He’s a good speaker, he’s charismatic, but if you follow his videos you’ll also see he’s extremely sensitive, has way too high of an opinion of himself and can come across as impossibly arrogant. He jumps wildly from being good to being terrible, and he’s also clearly paid to promote things from time to time. That said, few other youtubers that review fragrances have the same level of enthusiasm he does. There are some good channels, but they’re usually awkward nerds in their living room when the wife is out of the house.

But above all, 99% he is a businessman and he knows the pajeets and arabs have deep pockets when it comes to bobs and vagen. This.

Tom Fords releases are almost all literally just rehashes of past classics marked up at like 10x the price. Rive Gauche being discontinued for good is a tragedy, BDJ being discontinued is a drop in the bucket.

Agreed that Azzaro Pour Homme is probably the best choice for now, but have you heard that L'Oreal recently bought Azzaro from Clarins? It doesn't bode well for future reformulations.

BDJ is discontinued because it’s mediocre and people who buy TF PB are metropolitan yuppies. True authentic fougeres are for old established men and autusts. >Tuxedo

there's a story to be told. of good and evil. a cosmic schism, a wild funnel where the point of singularity, the only escape is only the beginning. the story is true and it's become a cold tale told in warm places. a story of the eater and the eaten. people speak of ysl. yes, they speak of the house and it's cherished, it's glistenings. of it's revered, always it's revered with that air of sophistication, of softness and care. something complacent and beautiful and has made a custom of turning it's back on it's wicked dealings, it's past it hopes to forget in the silence of death. this has become futile, because in the years since the tremor has only become more violent, and in these years they've learned to disregard the hunger. they've starved it but is doesn't die. it only becomes hungrier... and in it's place they've become a symbol of regality, of sterile streamlined luxury in a white room. le vestiaire des parfums they call it. simplicity and elegance. a swooning dance in sweeping silk on a bed of vapors... a dream even. all in vain because it's been fed only the best, and it's never known a want. it's slept ceaslessly, carelessly above the earth where at it's center spins in pangs of hunger and fury, of agony something brutish. they say it may come later. but later is now, the hour is now. it's been a matter of then but not now and then is now and now has been here forever... and they say to always remember that saying said only in the dark: "Tuxedo is the mother, Kouros is the wolf."

kouros sat silently and then suddenly spoke: "douse". i followed orders and sprayed my neck twice. a sonoran desert toad croaked on the windowsill. "how'd you get here, bud?", i said. "eat it.", said kouros. i followed orders. i fell to my back, the ceiling tore asunder and slategray specks began to rain into my room. "they seek a new beginning.", said kouros. "they are seedstars, coming to unpack themselves. do not be afraid. come, and douse". i sprayed my wrists. "what do they want?", i ask. "they are post-larval. they've been here before, their mission is unknown." "they've been here you know?", kouros emphasized. "they've lived in rustic houses, around the rolling green hills and under the amber sun, sitting just above the horizon. these ancestors have vast tracks of land and have lived a life much like your own but sweeter and without pain. can you feel it?" i woke suddenly in my room drenched in sweat. "a bad dream is all.", i said to myself. i looked over and kouros was sitting silently on my dresser. i got up, opened the window and grabbed kouros about to lob it out. mid-heave i heard a hum and the bottle vibrated softly in my hand. that hum again, coming from the atomizer. i pressed it against my ear. "civilize the mind.", said kouros. "and make savage the body." before my eyes the bottle spun into a warm flare and vanished into a thin thread of white smoke.

Old fuck checking in. Won a bottle of Warner formulation Polo Green and Cosmair Polo Green on ebay. The Warner formulation predates the Cosmair, both are basically the "real" Polo. Smells amazing, I get more caraway and dry spices in the Warner than I do the Cosmair. Some of the top notes are lost to time but after about twenty minutes it's a menthol sweet pine, leather and musk explosion with pepper and caraway. Decadent and virile.

I'm trying out Rogue Perfumery Mousse Illuminee since the perfumer makes scents with banned materials like real oakmoss. Mousse is basically Polo Green Fraiche. It's all the green notes at the forefront with the leather and musk toned down and with added florals.
Smells like a flanker of vintage Polo, and definitely bottle worthy. It's a better modernization of the Polo Formula than Polo Modern Reserve was, and well worth the price for a bottle.

For average use, yes.

Direct exposure to heat, light, humidity and air will weaken a fragrance.

But a bottle with the cap on in a dark but warm closet will last longer than a fragrance with the cap off on a bathroom window sill exposed to heat, light, air and humidity.

It's not a yes/no answer.

Also with a small collection most people will use the bottle before changes become noticeable. But if you have hundreds of bottles you'll have each bottle longer so you'd see the effects eventually. Does that make sense?

Now look at the positive reviews and search for young, youthful, sexy, fun, clubbing, sweet.

Now search for business like.

Old fuck here. Men don't have too many fruity scents that aren't dense or more winter oriented. Most men's summer fruits are citric based which aren't what you're looking for.

There are a few good options though!

Comptoir sud Pacifique Bois de Filao has a tart fruit note in in, along with papyrus. It's very unique and long lasting.

Kenzo Homme Night is mango, coconut and woods. It's fruity while still being very masculine.

Both are inexpensive and not common, I think Kenzo Night is what you're looking for.

It's not a fragrance but a note: Rose.

I've never found a rose fragrance that I felt I could pull off, and I've tried dozens.

Rose as a support note in classic frags like Iquitos, VCA Pour Homme and Ungaro 3 is fine. But when its front and center like in Lyric it just feels likw grandma soap when I wear it.

Oud and rose combos are even worse on me.

I refuse to give up though, I know there has to be a masculine rose out there for me.

Closest I got was L'Artisan Parfumer because the rose is so dark, dense and boozy it smells like hyper realistic garden dirt and leaves mashed with rose liquor. Goes beyond gender into pure goth but it's not versatile at all. Can't give up though.

I just enjoy the attaching memories to scents, nigger. Each frag I own just takes me back to a time and a place, and that's a powerful feeling.

What is everyone's most vivid memory when they smell a frag?

Mine is Midnight in Paris, reminds me of a romantic weekend with my ex when we were first seeing each other and she took me to her city (Derry, NI). It was the middle of winter, just after the new year and I had a great time with her. I'd recently just bought a big sheepskin coat, and MIP blended with it perfectly. She was wearing Mugler Alien, that takes me right back too. Can't really were MIP because the memory is so vivid. Remember sitting on the couch with her watching some shite on the telly in her dad's big old farmhouse, Remember going the cinema and bowling alley with her that night.

Yeah I'm a romantic sap.

I know this feel. I used to wear The One, can’t touch it anymore. I wore it when I went on vacation with my ex to Tokyo. She was a huge weeb and wanted to go to the Tokyo Game Show more than anything. I made it happen for her. I remember taking her to Tokyo Disney Park, we went on the train ride, and she kissed me in the dinosaur tunnel. She broke up with me 3 weeks after that trip. I was gonna is her to marry me, kinda glad she dumped me before I bought a ring, at least. Smelling The One always makes me think of her. Just can’t do it. Makes me too sad.

2004. I was in Washington DC with my friends, we went clubbing in Georgetown. I had just bought Parfums De Nicolai New York, first time wearing it out. Ended up in some sort of latin bar, danced with a gorgeous woman in a yellow dress. I'm never confident or comfortable dancing, that night was the exception and I had a blast. Everytime I smell New York I think of mojitos and her dress.

Lucky dog, I’m jealous. Either keep it for a rare peice of frag history for your collection or sell it for 350 bucks in a year or two. One is going on eBay for 200 right now. I’m happy with my little 11ML though. I like collecting rare or discontinued fragrances. I have a a little shelf/bookcase museum in my closet. I just like taking the caps off and smelling them to remember what they are like. It’s weird I treat this like some kind of wine collection my friends make fun of me for it but it’s something I enjoy. My museum of smells

I’m never selling it. Even 350.00 is basically chump change to me anyway, and I’d much rather have my nice bottle than a little money I won’t even notice having.

I know exactly what you mean. I have my cabinet full of all kinds of niche fragrances. A lot of them are borderline unwearable outside of just wearing them for myself when I’m at home. Easily spent 20k on my collection and counting. Don’t care, love it, gonna keep collecting. We’ve all got something special in our lives, some passion that other people will think is weird and silly. Those are the things that make life worth living. You do you, bro.

Yeah, I hear you. It’s been quite a few years now, there’ve been other women, but you know how it is. That girl was the first girl I ever really loved. She was sweet and silly (and had amazing tits), but unfortunately, her upbringing fucked her up pretty bad. Her dad was in prison for most of her childhood (nothing too crazy, he seemed like a good dude who just made a dumb mistake and paid for it, but still), her mom remarried, her stepdad was super Christian and was physically abusive (nothing sexual, apparently, just would beat her when she got in trouble). Just made it hard for her to trust men, y’know?

I don’t think about her too much anymore, I have a pretty great life, but every now and then, she creeps back in, and I can’t help but feel sad. I miss her, of course, but I also feel bad for her. I’m afraid of the kind of life she’s going to have. It may sound arrogant, but I was kind of her ticket out. Her family is not well off, and not well educated, they’re all very blue collar menial labor types, and I just worry she’s going to wind up working at McDonalds and getting knocked up by some white trash dickhead. I wanted better for her than that.

I guess it’s not my problem anymore, though.
