Are these fedora tier?

When I was in the conservation corps I wore one because it was practical for keeping me protected from the sun, plus I think they look cool. I just never wear them in cities/public because I'm afraid of the fedora stigma.

Congratulations, you officially do not have to care what normies think if they get self conscious about being in your presence.

If the Amish and Orthodox Jews could do it, so could you.

as long as it's not a trilby, you're not wearing an untucked t-shirt, and you're not wearing shorts, you'll be fine. but if you want to get better sun protection, go wider and straw.

Fedora tier depending on the rest of your fit.

This is the right advice, I'd think.

Speaking of straw, I'm considering getting one for the summer.

Typically the fedora stigma is in reality a cheap trilby stigma. And even then the criticism is more about the kind of people who wear them as opposed to the hat itself. I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and see people wearing these kinds of hats all the time (and not only the Hasidim either). I associate this kind of hat with hipsters more than anything else. Granted hipsters don’t fair much better than neck beard in terms of reputation. It’s a different kind of stigma though. People dislike neckbeards because they don’t put any real effort into their appearance, instead opting to throw a fedora on with a stained T-shirt and call it a night. If anything people stigmatize hipsters for dressing TOO well. Its clear they put a fuckload of effort into their appearance while simultaneously trying to convince people that they don’t care about fashion.

Does anybody know where to get a similar hat to the one worn by the actor in 8 1/2?

Since you can fold a hat any way you want, you should take this picture to your local hat vendor and prepare to pay 150 to 300 bucks.
