Reporting back: Aquatics Frag Sampling has commenced

Initial impressions as of 6/12/19, eventually frags will be worn for ~ a week:

1. Every Storm a Serenade by Imaginary Authors - This shit actually does smell like a storm by the water. It’s not an “uplifting” scent, but that’s not a bad thing at all. It’s a little dark and moody but not scary, like an art hoe.

2. Cool Water by Davidoff - I would use this shit instead of Windex to clean my bathroom mirror. Don’t wear this, just get a nice smelling bar soap if you don’t have any money, not even memeing

3. Erolfa Creed for men - definitely give this a chance if you’re into fresh outdoorsy zesty types of frags. If you like GIT, MI, or AdG or anything like that, Erolfa could be a nice default-to summer grab for you

4. Bleu Astral by Issey Miyake for men - Too sweet for a masculine guy imo, this might work for a girl though. I wanted something to evoke a starry summer night, but this comes across smelling too much like bubble gum - reminded me of He Wood DSQUARED2, which I thought smelled way too sweet even though they’re both woody which I like. Still looking for a starry night frag if anyone has recs..

5. Bvlgari Aqva - This kinda falls short after having smelled the other scents that I perceived as higher quality / better done. I had tried this before, wanted to give it another chance. Not a bad aquatic but almost seems a little to synthetically done - like its watery and you can tell it’s fake water. Because of that, it’s too juvenile for someone over age, say 25-27. Im sure it’s fine for high school and college though

Frags I have received but not yet sampled; reports to come:

Acqua di Sale, Profumum
Kenzo Homme Night for men
Millesime Imperial, Creed for men
Heeley Sel Marin
Polo Blue
Eternal Return CB I Hate Perfume
Clive Christian Rock Rose
Clive Christian 1872 for men
Neroli Portofino, Tom Ford
Acqua di Gio Profumo, Armani

I tried Chance Eau Tendre and Eau Fraiche today

Eau Tendre is very feminine, dominated by quince with jasmine and musk in the background

Eau Fraiche is a unisex lemon/cedar/pink pepper scent

Both are superb, and I will be buying Eau Fraiche for myself

So my expectations are something fresh and/or vetivery with some complexity to it, so please no Grey Vetivers/TdH and other routine exercises on vetiver. It should also last for at least 4h of cocktails, dancing and throwing midgets, so most of freshies recommended here like AdP etc won’t work. MDCI is a bit of an outlier here but I think a classic complex chypre like Chypre Palatin will also do a good job. I’m a 26yo boomer btw. Pic somewhat related.

i read through both reviews and honestly im still really intrigued, is it actually like salty sea ocean air scented? >> No.14404694

>>14404589
yea theres salty ocean air, but its not "warm" air, its chilly and overcast type of feel. the salty ocean is also grounded by spruce and pine trees nearby. the projection and sillage are average to below average so im not sure anyone else would even smell you unless they were pretty close.

no i did not get sick of it over time, the drydown is pleasant and less "stormy" than the opening but thats not a bad thing. its calmer but still interesting, simple but satisying.

still get a sample and dont blind buy. nothing is ever worth a blind buy imo and they have 2mL samples on their official website so why not just sample it?

Anyone have experience with Creed’s Acqua Originale line? Fragrancenet has a lot of them for absurdly cheap as far as Creeds go. The fact that they go for 90-110 for 100 ml and yet nobody ever talks about them makes it seem like they’re probably not great, but I can’t imagine Creed putting out something that is outright bad. Is it worth it? I mean, it’s fucking cheaper than the Sauvage EDP.

Dug up the every storm a serenade and cape heartache review I wrote. Some redundant wording I already used here but this is what inspired it.

ESAS: The sailors fragrance. Literally this is what a salty sea dog would wear, in fact its whats he would smell like without this. Salty blast and damp woody. Not quite the woody I am fond of though, some say it smells like a "rotting pier" and I can see that. Anyone who loves the ocean, I dont mean the beach, I mean the ocean, will love this. Very salty and the vetiver and eucalyptus really enhance the salty "sting". You can smell spruce but its on the bench, not playing much. The marine notes are authentic. Smells like dock sea water. It is NOT fishy though if thats what you have in mind. Thought I would like it but its not for me, but any of you costal guys would love this. Wear this to your salty sea saloons.

Cape Heartache: It smells like a Christmas tree. Does anybody else notice that? Very deep pine and fir smells. Holiday scent for sure and a fall/winter no brainer. This is northwest US in a bottle. I feel almost unauthentic wearing it here in the southeast. It smells like a place I've seen in pictures but have never been to. I think my skin absorbs some sweet smells so the "too strong" strawberry note some complain about is unfounded with me. It is there but it just adds a little sweet to the woods, which in my opinion is quite nice. A little vanilla and a little smoky. Surprised this doesn't come up more in /frag/ threads in the colder months. My gripe (if its even a gripe, it doesn't bother me much) is that this doesn't really evolve or change. IA takes flak from being "One dimensional" which I don't really mind if its a pleasant scent.

Overall: on my skin its a very nice colder weather scent. Too late in the season to buy it now but its on my list for next fall/winter

Can only speak for Noir Extreme in this list. It is a 10/10 smell. A sweet gourmand vibe but not overly gourmand like something basically edible from kilian... Projection is decent but it is plagued by low longevity. 2-3 hours maybe. Very strong positive reactions from females but it is short lived. I rarely recommend carrying a decant because I think its a little autistic. But this is one I would have to make an exception for. Its THAT good, but longevity is THAT bad.

Problem is, I can’t remember what it smelled like exactly, the note breakdown looks like it could lean skanky-oud, which I hate, and I can’t find my sample to smell it again.

What do? Like I said, I recall really liking it and wanting it, and I’ll probably never get another chance since it’s discontinued, but I’d essentially be blind-buying a 450.00 oud scent. Dunno if I should jump on it or not.

he's so fucking sad and pathetic, honestly watching any of his videos makes me sick because he's such a little condescending bitch and whipped cumslave of Guerlain and Chanel. Anything sweet isn't for a "grown man", anything synthetic is "garbage" - even though both Chanel and Guerlain, hell every single fragrance brand, use synthetic materials liberally. He's the fragrance community equivalent of "born in the wrong era" "today's music is trash" LARPers who elevates "classical perfumery" to find some pedastal to post his manlet ass up on and look down on others. You can just tell he is a sad, pathetic, sniveling excuse of a man without any semblance of character, charisma, charm, or personality. I'm glad he's getting out of the game.

He talks about perfumers and notes like they woke up one morning and said "let's add a little bit more leather to this formula" and pressed a magic leather note button. He has a snobbery about "niche" fragrances that are just the most expensive line of Chanel and Guerlain available at the department store. I haven't seen him look at some really interesting off the beaten path or weird stuff, but he has a condescending attitude like the shit he's talking about is super unique and special and talks about fragrances as a "journey" chasing the unique stuff. Dude does not know what he's talking about, just a basic suburban Guerlain/Chanel loving bitch.

So i tried lately some Summer fragrances, so the problem can be my skin or summer fragrances don't last a long time ? i mean most of them barely last 4 hours on my skin, some of them are gone before. Due to the nature of summer fragrances they simply won’t last that long. Aqva Amara lasts a long time but that’s a rarity. Dior Homme Cologne lasts about 5-6 hours for me, but in the highest heat it’s less than that.

Either embrace the poor longevity, get in to the habit of reapplying during the day or simply don’t wear a fragrance in the summer.

It’s a lot less loud than the Sauvage edt, especially in the opening. It reminds me of a slightly cheaper smelling Sauvage edp. The primary difference to my nose is that it’s softer and has more of the licorice undertone that Sauvage has. Doesn’t perform quite as well, but that also means it’s less likely you’ll overspray by accident. It’s I pretty solid freshie, I’d pull the trigger if that’s what you’re into.

I really wanted to love French Lover but it smells on my like vegetables taken straight out of soil after a rainy day. I like it that way but can’t really justify buying a fragrance that I just like for this pricetag. I love Portrait of a Lady though but since I gifted it to my gf on Christmas and she has lived it since then I don’t feel like I should get a bottle for myself. Smelling how lovely perfume it is on her is enough for me. Lipstick rose is a very interesting powdery scent. I gifted it to my gay friend who loves Chanel Misia and Palace Whores by Etat Libre d’Orange and he prefers it over these two. Vetiver Extraordinarie is really snice. Calm down yall. If someone has money then Rojas are ok. Most of his compositions are just meh for me but for example I wish I had a bottle of Diaghilev. However the pricetag is obviously overinflated and you pay half of it for the presentation not solely the juice. This is what lowkey pisses me off. Btw Turin is sometimes an autistic contrarian just like most of ppl on this board and very moody in his reviews (that makes them enjoyable tho), so I’d not necessarily rely too much on his opinions. In particular he loves to hate the hypejob type of houses like Roja, MFK or Orto Parisi.
>>14416638
You might be right, but I think he just wants to test new stuff not look up vintage batches of his favourite fragrances. If he liked them he would have hard times getting them anyways, so that’s not a good starting point for someone just at the beginning discovering Polo Ralph Lauren and Bvlgari. I don’t personally get the vintagehunting thing because we’re in literally in the golden age of perfumery and there are so many great scents around to discover that I don’t see a point of mourning over lost formulations if you can find something that youll love even more somewhere else. To each his own though and I respect your approach bro

I didn’t like his other Tutti-Fruity scents, but I absolutely love fruity Aoud. The mix of fruit and somewhat skanky oud is very interesting and unique.

It’s not a prestige thing, I like it, I wanted it, so I bought it. The money’s pretty irrelevant to me, so buying a 400.00 frag that’s just for me isn’t an issue.

I actually don't get anything dirty or sweaty in APH at all, to me it's super fresh and soapy the entire time. It has a peculiarity in it's structure though, it opens with a lot of anise which is probably where you're getting the funkiness, and gets more citrusy during the mid when it's been on your skin for a while. That lavender is something else though right? One of the most realistic when compared to pure lavender essential oil versus other frags of this type.
