>> No.14398319

>>14398215
I have 3 pairs.
Are they worth 600 euro?
No. I wouldn't say so. Then again, my priorities have shifted.
For 600e's I be looking at shit closer to home if I were in your shoes unless you really have a hard on for the styling of a specific viberg makeup. Have you had a good look at what's available in europe for 600? Presumably the vibes would be 600+import tax too, right?
If there's another 20% to be paid on top of this then certainly not worth it for you methinks.
They're good boots don't get me wrong, I just don't think they have to be first choice especially considering the other NA bootmakers that are churning out similar styled boots for less, and with more (perhaps too much) choice. Still, they're all MTO with a wait, and vibergs are available NOW so that's something. Wait's are death.
I would only consider one more specific pair I've been eyeing for a while, then I'm totally done with the brand. There's only so many fucking service boot variations you can buy before you get bored to tears, and, let's face it, their service boots are the only thing anybody gives a shit about.

I have two pairs. First one I got for full price, service boot in brown chromexcel. It was the 1035 last, which is a little wider than the 2030 last. They're amazing and I wear them almost daily for the past year. I probably should've sized down 0.5 but they still fit well. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

Second pair was from a sale from MR PORTER. They're black suede derby boot in 2030 last. They fit well but I honestly don't wear them much. They were an impulse buy because they were like ~60% off or something and was the final pair they had.

If you have the money and are looking for a good pair of boots that will probably last you ~10 years then go for it. Make sure you take care of them with conditioning and all that once a month.

I'm probably going to get a third pair soon but haven't decided on what exactly. Luckily I'm in Canada so we have a lot of shops that carry them and I don't have to worry about dumb import fees. My only issue with Viberg is they're a Canadian based company but the greedy fuckers only deal in $USD.

You're looking for service boots. It depends on what you're willing to spend. The top of the range would be shell cordovan boots from viberg or alden. Lower down you can look at brands like whites or nicks. The cheapest you should look at would be red wings, meermin, or john doe. The important thing in terms of avoiding creasing is shoe trees, and most scuffs can be taken out with conditioner and brushing.

The Chelsea boot was originally created for the Queen of england. It's literally a women's boot. Which has been adopted by men. It's the easiest boot to put on.

Military boot, is usually hardest to put on, many eyelets and long laces. Some have side zips to add luxury.

Best bang for buck dress oxfords from a decent maker that are actually not shit and well made means looking to England.
400US = 315GBP
Look at Loake's 1880 line (only)
Sander's Diplomat and Ambassador lines
Cheaney's city and classic lines.
In that order of increasing quality.
Presumably you're in the US so buying from England usually means a VAT discount so take note of whatever prices you see online stating this or otherwise; some stuff might turn out to be cheaper than you first thought,

Alden, the only decent trad American shoemaker worth bothering with, is surprisingly expensive for what you get. 560US (438GBP) for a basic, capped oxford that would most likely have Alden's usual bullshit qc oversights vs for the same price you're entering the rather decent indeed range of english made footwear.

Problem for you I guess would be sizing.
For close to your limit (304GBP)/$380's I'd have a look at the Cheaney Alfred for a clean, classic black capped oxford. But of course you'll want to spend less so that there's more money for other shit (shoetrees, care products etc.)

Check pediwear.co.uk or elsewhere as a general catalog and guide for pricing.

is it weird to have a bit of a boot obsession?

I have like 6 pairs of boots now. Friends and family have started to ask if I am starting a boot collection and they think its kind of funny

I spend everyday cleaning, brushing down and polishing them and leather conditioning them.

I watch endless videos on youtube about boots

Also, is there a way to make black polish permanently stay on my boots? It seems like after one day at work the polish on the tips of my boots are gone and its gone back to a mucky grey colour.

You saturate the pores of the leather and that moisture stays in the boots. Moisture is a leather destroyer which is why you always want to let your boots dry out and use shoe trees. That's also why you always want to apply as little conditioner as possible and wipe away excess.

Go with an actual name brand boot. Cheap combat boots are really uncomfortable and take forever to break in, even marching everyday in them. Tactical Research is a good brand that isn't expensive

cheap boots wont break in marching everyday, they'll disintegrate. actually, nice boots will disintegrate too but they'll be comfortable while they do it.

Holy shit. Those are exact same boots US soldiers get issued in basic training, only with a different sole.
They're heavy as bricks, uncomfortable and ugly as sin. Almost everyone throws them out and gets new boots as soon as basic is over. I replaced mine the first available change I got.

Thought I'd try a pair of Panama Jacks 03, bought from their online store. They came in the wrong size and color. Customer service say they don't offer exchanges so I will have to make a new order and pay for shipping for a new pair.
I'm only sticking to American now lads.

Are you specifically looking for combat boots?
I had a few over my years in the army. I got those meme Nike boots that Shia wears and they lasted a few months before the sole started coming off. They're absolutely not meant for actual field work, only office/garrison stuff. Replaced those with some Rocky S2V boots which are extremely comfortable and light despite looking like they'd weight a million pounds. I have never met a soldier who didn't have the heel area wear out prematurely, as that happened to me.
I ended up with some Belleville One Zeros and absolutely loved them. Pic related. They're light as hell but durable. When one pair got worn out I replaced them with the exact same thing. I swore by them for years.

Well now that I realize you're Canadian, that price isn't bad. 360CAD is around 270USD right? That's a fair price for the Blacksmiths. I'd go for it.

Anyone know whether these types of boots have a specific name? I’ve been trying to look for some but can’t seem to find anything similar. I mean, with the none laced up bit near the ankle... but it actually flops over the sides. Sometimes he wears them up, like in the picture, and sometimes they are more droopy and flop over. The boots I have don’t do this. If you lace them only half way, the unlaced bit still stays in shape going up the leg.

IRs or just something that looks similar? I'm fucking pissed because my feet suddenly grew half a size after being the same for like 15 years and now I can't wear my IRs for more than a few hours without getting blisters, and I can't even sell them because they're beat to shit.
