Post it again dude.
Imperial is probably the best cologne water I’ve ever tried. However it doesn’t last longer than 20 minutes but I don’t mind that really and like it for being ephemeral. I also like the fact that it’s a great piece of history in a bottle. Composed in 1853 for Empress Eugenie and not changed since then. Even the bottle is a piece of art with its imperial white bee pattern and the top of the bottle taken straight out of the Napoléon I column at Place Vendome. Stunning piece and I paid for it £10 secondhand.
CdG is one of the most abstract fragrances I’ve smelled. It’s not such a hard thing to achieve tbf but making it at the same time wearable is a work of a true genius and I have a lot of respect for Mark Buxton for that.
>>14386005

I often wonder how much they sell. When you consider just how many fragrances they have and how little you smell them on men in public or at work it seems really strange. I mean, you’ve easily got there 5l of frags that would last you for next 10 years. Given that I don’t think you’d run out of a 30ml bottle of Aventus quickly with a reasonable rotation. Oh. It's a unique Patchouli. Rather than straight up earthy patch leaf, I also get some kind of cypriol and an almost fougere / classical masculine vibe. In my top three Patchoulis with Dior and Santa Maria Novella.

SOTW: Diptyque Eau des Sens

Grabbed a sample of this at the Diptyque counter. It's a super fresh soapy citrus/orange blossom/white flower. Smells like high end soap, but is sometimes more feminine and white floral smelling while sometimes being more masculine with spicy juniper.

The most surprising part is that for a Diptyque it's incredibly long-lasting on my skin. It does not feel like an Eau de Toilette at all. A good option for those looking for a good performing summer scent that's a bit less straightforward than other citruses mainstays (if summer ever comes over here for me).

This is absolutely calculated in. Why on earth you’d need to pay $100 for a bottle of a subpar designer fragrance otherwise? Some time ago I’ve seen this thread on fragrantica where they were breaking down coats of producing a fragrance. Juice doesn’t cost them more than a couple of bucks same with bottles. Another 10 bucks a bottle go into marketing and composing it. This leaves you at 500% of profit a bottle.

Not so sure about it, I’d rather guess that it’s quite a substantial part of their business. After all fragrances of these companies are the only way to get something from Chanel/Dior for most of the people. That gives them an exposition to the whole range of society not only its upper echelons who are both affluent and have interests in high fashion.

Is Hugo Extreme/The Dreamer an ok blind buy if I just want a safe warm and cool weather scent respectively? For comparison I like the freshness in ADG, Mugler Cologne and Fierce. The only comparison note wise I have to Dreamer is Spicebomb fresh but I'm guessing they're wildly different?

Hugo Extreme is as safe as safe gets, honestly. Works in all situations, all seasons. I'd never recommend it to anyone for that reason, I think you can get so much more out of a riskier fragrance.
If you can get it REALLY cheap then go for it.

Jeremy reviews have been bad for a while now. All he does these days are top 10 lists or “ladies reactions” style videos that are about as accurate and trustworthy as an axe body spray commercial. Jeremy is the kid of confident, we’ll dressed, metrosexual guy that could pull compliments from sunscreen. Women like him far more than the fragrances he wears. What works for a guy like Jeremy is completely irrelevant for 99.9% of men. I’d rather hear about what the cologne smells like and how it performs, not about how many drunk thots want to fuck you.

Explain to me how come the only good fragrances from Amouage, an Omanian brand that aspires to revive and celebrate 3000 years of local perfumery, are some heavy resiny-incensy things that are absolutely not wearable and cloying in summer? Do middle-easterners have different concepts of what is appropriate for hot weather or what? It's really beyond me to understand it. Literally the pastebin and the 2nd post of this thread are a good place to start

You gotta start with just getting samples - go to the department stores and get as many free samples as you can - anything they give you, take it. Then just go to the OP websites and start copping samples of shit and read reviews on basenoted and fragrantica. You will start to recognize which ingredients you like vs dislike. Do this for about 5 years straight every new season and eventually you will become a snob and say anything less than Rock Rose is shit. You’re welcome

Is there any actual benefit to these being made to order and mixed by hand in store, or is it just a gimmick? Wouldn’t the chances of getting a bad batch be increased dramatically by leaving the actual blending of the thing in the hands of just whatever asshole happens to be working that day? I used to work in food service, and I know for a fact that the quality of the dishes I sent out suffered somewhat if I was feeling shitty, even if it was inadvertent. I can’t imagine this would be all that different, and if you’re paying niche prices, you should expect the highest quality every time. I just don’t see how le labo could guarantee something like that given their service model.

>> No.14389983

Seems like a gimmick to me. I assume Le Labo makes it as foolproof as possible, probably mostly mixed already and the hipster (I assume) working the counter just has to add X number of drops to the alcohol, but you do have a good point, consistency is likely rather spotty.

Women would fuck a garbage man or a plumber, they don't care about smell unless you smell like barf. If you want to set a bad boy vibe, get anything with leather or booze. If you want a sugar daddy vibe, get any fragrance that old ass men usually wear. If you want a sporty vibe, get anything that is made for sports or citrus stuff. Ain't that difficult to figure out. Just so you know Stacy won't fuck you if you think this is some magic potion. I buy what I personally like and women can go fuck themselves if they don't like it. So far, that works for me and it should work with you.
