What were some distinct hallmarks of the late 60s and early 70s fashion, particularly men's? Not just limited to hippies and counterculture, but mainstream and conservative looks as well. Feel free to drop inspo at your discretion

On a tangent, it seems like western themed items came back in a really big way.

one of the biggest differences was in hair. most men had longer, shaggier hair, as opposed to now when the standard cut is like a high and tight

Boot cut jeans
Henley shirts, long and short sleeve
Harness boots
Leisure suits
Lots of polyester fabrics
"hip huggers" were popular style of womens jeans and slacks, as were hot pants and mini skirts
Main stream fashion tended towards muted earth tones. Harvest Gold and Avocado Green were dominant. Oranges, browns, tans, think desert sunset colors.
Hippies, of course, went for bright color palettes. Paisley, mandalas, neon/blacklight stuff. Beads, necklaces, leather braided wristbands, headbands, etc
Kids wore what they wear today. Whatever mom bought for them.
By the mid-70s, disco kicked in, and colors got a lot brighter.

I've read somewhere (so it must be true) that due to a bit of a recession around 1970 clothing didn't really change a lot until the mid 70s so that's why the early 70s tended to be more of a 60s continuum.

It really didn't though.

>a bit of a recession around 1970
big truth here. 1973 was a holy shit, rip you a new asshole, recession, with inflation driving prices up around 300% in less than a year. Gas rationing, high unemployment in major industries, and general fuck all disaster.
I went into Army basic training in August of 1973, and when I got out 3 months later, all hell had broken loose. Even if you had $$$ it didn't go very far due to inflation. Things really didn't get better until the early 80s. Styles didn't change that much either, because of that (i think).

teach us more oldfag.
why was it that in the 60's/70's heeled boots were a norm for guys? was there no stigma of being "gay" while wearing heeled boots?
