I want to adopt this kind of style, but I am a little afraid of the "shock" I will cause by moving from a casual style to this formal one.

Just slowly switch out articles of your regular clothing so it looks like your style is evolving until you reach that as a conclusion. For example, if you currently just wear jeans, sneakers, and a t-shirt then switch to button-up shirts for a while. Then eventually swap out the sneakers for boots or dressier shoes. Keep doing this over the space of a few weeks until you've completely swapped out your old look with pic related.

First, go slow. Swap one thing out a time. Also don't be a snob who wears a suit to buy groceries, clothing has context

Move to it gradually. Start incorporating collared shirts, move away from jeans, wear casual but not too casual shoes like loafers, etc. Just build over time.

Where do you live? Is it cold & grey enough for the new wardrobe?

No, but I have the feeling that you can dress elegantly in many more situations than we think.

These seem good advices, thank you, guys!

It is mostly a stylistic reference; Suits, three-piece suits, tweed jackets... Of course it can be adapted to different weathers.

Post pics of yourself OP. I have the feeling you're about to make a horrible mistake.

You can get creative if you want to wear those formal pieces to informal outings. For instance put a hoodie on under the blazer, or tuck a t shirt into those nice slacks with no belt. Wearing a tie seems to be really difficult nowadays but I've seen some guys pull it off by using extremely fun and interesting patterns. Then those outfits work anywhere. For instance (and I would personally never wear this because I hate plaid) but Ive seen some guys rock the tie with plaid shirt to good effect

This isn't necessarily true. If you immediately switch to something dressy/formal people will have exaggerated reactions and think it looks either significantly better or worse than it does. This often happens when dudes put on a suit for the first time or chicks who don't usually wear dresses put on a dress. Also if most of OP's friends are dudes it will come across as quite gay, as if you're getting all dressed up for a bunch of dudes regardless of whether you intend to switch to that style permanently.

this is goign to be hard to pull off in a way, but in another way, fairly easy.

-you can't thrift or go cheat with this style, these have to be real $900 coats at least/
-everything needs to be tailored
-you need to have either a career, or family background that can support this.
-have fun, the smells, and touch and feel of the fabrics and textures will be cool.

(also maybe tone it down to more like pic related)

No that's all terrible. Formalwear exists to be different from a hoodie. Unless you're an autistic tech bro you should never do that shit.

As someone who has been through all the stages of young male fashion crisis, it really isn't. 99% of the "shock" OP is fearing is in his own head. People in his life will comment on, both positive and negative, but that's about it. No one's opinion of him will be radically or permanently altered by a change in fashion. If he starts actually acting like a pretentious /fa/g, that will cause people to think poorly of him, but just dressing differently will blow over without much impact.

Who cares? Wear what you want.

I feel as though you're point doesn't quite relate to what I said, but is still important here. I agree that a lot of it will be in OP's head. He made this thread so I assume he's pretty self-concious of how people percieve him. But it's now become about comfort zones and commitment. Yes the end result will be the same (regardless of whether he changes over night or slowly over a longer period of time) but depending on how self-concious he is it might be easy to spook him out of commiting to his choice. I can imagine it'd be pretty easy to trick himself into thinking everyone's looking at him wierd or suddenly acting differently towards him even if it's not true.

Hey OP, here's the truth. There will be no shock, it's all in your head. Dress how you want and don't start being a twat to your friends because you've changed your wardrobe.

Since you're soo worried about what others think, you sound very underage. No one cares that much about you, you're not the center of the world, you probably will hear a comment in the first day like "you look different", the same comment as cutting your hair.
As the first poster said, you can jump slowly into this style.
Problems:
This is very hard to pull off, mainly If you're underage, you'll look like reviewbrah wearing his grandpa suite. This is hard to pull off well.
The second big problem is price, a lot of this clothes look really good because of the different materials that they are made off, the cut etc... Basically this clothes are expensive. Mall tier brands follow meme modern cuts that look really bad and they materials of the clothes are really bad, making you look like a knock off of your inspo.
Advice: follow the prep threads that we have here and jump into the style slowly by buying a few nice Oxford shirts and a nice wool/cashmere sweater.
I don't know what you've been doing but do you have the clothes that you shown in your pic related?
