I'm absolutely in love with this 18 carat, rose gold TAG Heuer Carrera watch purchased from the beautiful city of Perth. Made with sapphire infused glass that only diamond can scratch, I've spoiled myself with this gorgeous timepiece. The calibre 16 movement has been crowned as the most successful automatic chronograph movement ever produced, completely handmade by man. It is also my very first day date watch and it will be interesting to see if it becomes an important feature that Will depend on over time. I hope you all enjoy this watch as much as I do.

This is way overblown. Yes, some models have long-ass waiting lists like steel Daytonas, but the most have waiting lists that are like a week. Even the really popular ones are a month out.
Rolex makes over a million watches per year.

When I went to buy my Hulk, I walked into my closest AD (whom I had never purchased anything from) and asked if they had one for sale.
>No, but we're getting a shipment in early next week, would you like us to call you if one comes in?
I said sure, handed them my calling card, and six days later I got the call and bought a Hulk from them.

Just wind your watch once each day, say when you wake up in the morning or when you take it off to go to bed at night. Dont play around with it and constantly wind it a little bit here and there throughout the day.
This is if it's a purely mechanical wind up watch and not a self winding mechanical (automatic). If you've found that you've had a relatively inactive day then you can take off your automatic and say before bed give it a few shakes so that it doesn't stop in the night. I've found that mimicking the action of distributing playing cards to work the best.
I have no idea what the first thing is on about; not vet heard that before. I've always just set the tjme the normal way without issue.

I'm getting a lot of criticism for calling this watch "high end" but, even after reading all of the comments, I stand by what I said. There will always be a bigger, more expensive brand of watch with slightly better movement or with a little more charm but I enjoy THIS watch. TAG Heuer is a well established, respected brand for people like myself who cannot afford the "real" high end brands. After severing $6000 AUD (a lot for a student like me) this piece brings me great satisfaction, I'm truly disappointed by people telling me that it's from a lower bracket of watches, not worth it or that I'm wrong for considering it high end. As many have pointed out (and I really appreciate the support), "high end" is subjective and really depends on the spectrum of watches he/ she can afford. This watch, believe it or not, is high end in terms of what I will come to own in my lifetime. I didn't post for any other reason than to share my watch with a group of people who could appreciate it. Don't prove me wrong.

Really depends how big your wrist is, what kind of watches you're into...
Since a ton of dress watches are 33mm, that's probably the smallest you can go.

Not worth the money they go for. Very basic movements considering the price. Consider the fact that chinese replicas are able to mimic the real thing to the extent that it makes people super paranoid about ever buying one.

Yes I have a titanium Luminor Marina.
Pros of the brand:
>it’s not as ubiquitous. I know people who have bought Panerai because they want a diver different from a sub
>much weaker second hand market (now) means you can get good deals on them
>most of their movements now are almost entirely in house
>they do some of the best quality dials in the industry
>distinct and recognizable designs
>they make poorfags in /wt/ seethe for no reason
Cons:
>highly faked
>average Panerai is too big at 44-45mm, need to dig to find one 40-42mm
>movements were absolute dogshit until the last 6-7 years with modified ETA and Unitas based movements being put in $5k+ watches
>movement finishing is still not spectacular compared to brands that do it well at the price point like JLC, Nomos. Probably on par with average Omega
>still have a bad reputation from their dark years among watch enthusiasts

I’m probably going to sell my Luminor Marina and buy a 40 or 42mm Radiomir sometime in the future. I have a Datejust and a Speedy but there’s something very appealing about Panerai designs to me for some reason. I think maybe it’s an acquired taste. Re posting in this thread:

Hi guys, I don't know much about watches but I wanted to buy a vintage Japanese one.

How cheap is it safe to go to buy a decent Seiko? I'm looking for quite a classic, minimal look, not too bulky on the wrist. Any specific models you guys would recommend?

Pic related, close to how I want but I would swap it out for black leather straps.

If I were you, I wouldn’t buy new. Since they’re easily faked I’d buy used (with box and papers) from a reputable dealer. Their value drops quite a bit used (like 99% of other brands) so you can save yourself a lot of cash. I’d go to a dealer in person though to at least get an idea of what you want. They have so many variations and sizes that it can be easy to get lost if you don’t know exactly what you’re after.

When looking at models pay extra attention to the movement. Some of the older models circa 2000s use “OP 6xxx” movements which are modified ETAs. They’re good movements but trash compared to some of their in-house offerings, especially the 8 day power reserve.

It’s hard to give similar recommendations because they ran the gamut in pricing and complications. You can get a base Luminor for probably around $4k, or you can spend a couple hundred grand on a reverse tourbillon. JLC sports watches like the Polaris are probably the closest, or some Rolexes like the Explorer II.

>Tell me about Panerai watches.

The first thing to realize is that the watches themselves are secondary to the fact that Panerai owners are (or were, but still are, a little bit) a community of guys who are in love with the story of the Panerai watch.

In the older days, the watches weren't actually that expensive. They were just made in such tiny quantities that you couldn't get them. The result was a bunch of guys who were somewhere between really rich and pretty middle class who were all in on this great little secret that only a select few knew about.

The watches themselves are very big and very simple, entirely by design.

I've been an owner of them for about 15 years but I've been slowly getting rid of them until I'm down to just the one model I treasure most. The community has changed and has been replaced by guys just flexing about how many LEs they can buy, but don't care about making friends.

I'm retarded. I meant seconds hacking. When you pull out the crown on most watches to change the time, the seconds hands will stop, so you can start it to the perfect time at the second. Seiko 5 movement doesn't have that. It's not a big deal honestly because you will be gaining/losing 5 to 10 seconds every day.

Usually when you hand wind an automatic watch, you are just winding the same wheel that the rotating weight also winds. I think the movement in seiko 5s have about 48 hours of power reserve. If you are wearing it every single day, you'll likely never see it die on you.

>the mechanism of mechanical watches is different from that of quartz watches. when setting the time, be sure to turn back the minute hand a little behind the desired time and then advance it to the right time

Many watches have a little bit of "give" in regards to the minute hand. So if you want the minute hand to point to the minute marker that you are aiming for, wind it back and then forward so that you exhaust that give as much as possible. This will leave the minute hand in a position where it will start moving from there when the gears re-engage. Otherwise, it'll take a few seconds for the gears to move the hand.

No one likes black people man, not even black people, it's why they live in constant turmoil and anguish. And look, I love watching old reruns of fresh prince okay, I like some rap, I find some of the slang fun, I'm a fun guy. But at the end of the day, all over the top malice aside, they are walking liabilities. To the area they live in, themselves, each other, anyone they come in contact with, 0 etiquette or manners. I dont know what the solution is, but let's drop the act of not being racist here. Most "non racist" people can only pretend to be that way because they have the luxury of almost never interacting with them.

If you live in a state that has some black people in it, and you are middle class or lower, you will typically learn a lot a about them throughout your life. I dont understand why this always the comeback. This isnt deranged thinking or obsession, it's literally just the beinine conclusion of "hey, yeah, I think I'm gonna generally try to stay away from black people, they are terrible creatures"

Like I'm being sincere with this too. Get off the moral high ground here you think you are on, it means absolutely nothing and its incredibley disnegnious.

I am not an idiot and I'm well aware of the replica scene. The 3135 & 4130, which are the only copied Rolex movements out there have a reputation of being unreliable.
