merrels barefoot trail runners are literally the only ones i would ever consider as being /fa/.... Since they dont look like fucking foot ninja socks from teenage mutant ninja turtles...

No prob, and good luck. If these are your first minimalist runners, make sure you fucking pace yourself and start slow... You'll be hitting a *LOT* of different muscles, tendons and bones. I could manage 10k relatively easily on a treadmill wearing asics Nimbus's(like the most comfy padded shoes out there) but could hardly make it 1 mile on pavement with the merrels and needed 3 days for my feet to recover before i could try again(but after the 5th or 6th run i was almost fine)

I've read running is bad for your joints and can be worse for your heart than not running at all. It's all in modern literature and science

>> No.14300437

>>14300428
Its exceptionally rough on your joints if you're overweight(from fat or muscle). But it you give enough time to recover and are taking glucosamine, you'll be far better off than if you didnt run at all.

If you're heavy(again, from muscle or fat) you probably should avoid it and go with an elliptical or cycling...Just be aware they're not nearly as 'whole' a workout as running.

What's the cut off weight for running? I'm 215 lbs of mostly muscle

>> No.14300500

>>14300473
No idea, really depends on how your body is built. I'm 130lbs and 5'6" and i wouldnt run if i were 20lbs heavier. I have done a few runs in a weighted vest(so my actual weight was 170) and i definitely needed extra recovery time for my joints.

The pros of getting the cardio workout and muscle tears on your leg muscles can get outweighed by the damage at some point and its really up to you, or maybe a kinesiology doctor, to determine that point.

I certainly wouldnt consider running to be a good idea as an exercise to do if you're looking to LOSE weight(only to stay in shape once you're at your goal). Keep in mind i'm saying "running", you can still jog or walk(id say anything less than 5mph) with minimal issue.

The studies about that are on marathon runners, who still died of heart problems far less than the average American. Doing nothing is literally worse. Just stick to the 800m -> 10k and you'll be fine

OP, there aren't that many options. You could have easily solved this yourself with a few clicks. Everyone knows that VivoBarefoot is the only worthwhile minimalist shoe manufacturer.
