For years sephora let me take a handful of samples without buying anything. Maybe the girls there thinks im attractive? Definitely sample more than 3 and don't buy anything before you've worn it on your skin a few times. Whatever you do don't buy anything at those random indian fragrance stores in the mall. They water down their juice and everything is marked up. Sephora is limited in selection so if you really want to branch out you can buy samples offline on luckyscent or the perfume court.

Here is my summer list so far that I'm planning to sample. Pretty sure there are a few on my list that you can get at Sephora. If anyone has any additional recommendations chime in.

I bought it in London and I sprayed it on my skin to test it. I got a few funny looks on the tube.

Autumn/Winter ones should be kept to their seasons, but although citrus on a cold day doesn't really fit, in a practical sense it's not like anything can go wrong. But if you wear Tobacco Vanille on a hot day you're going to choke people out.

Thanks for the reply! So, I live in a very hot place in the southern hemisphere... so while winter is arriving for me, it never goes below 18C/64F.
Even then, I do feel that all my fragances are too summery and citric... but that's just how I smell them. I have no idea if that is the consensus on them.

Yeah, there’s a reason Cool Water is one of the biggest selling of all time. It changed the game forever. I got it for Christmas so I’ve been waiting patiently for the summer.

It’s a shame its popularity meant the smell became so ubiquitous but that doesn’t mean it’s not still a nice smell. I get surprisingly good performance too.

Is the longevity on this one a complete shit? I am kinda hesitant between this one and Chanel Allure Homme Sport. The latter is fine I guess but smells a bit too generic and plain for its money ( I also sampled Cologne which smells like a dishwashing gel). I like the vibrant and brisk lemon kick in Dior tho. So I went to a copy site to try a sample of their tuscan leather rip off. Glowing reviews (fake lol) but it was super cheap so I figured fuck it, give it a try.

I want my money back.

It smells like lynx shower gel with a cigarette butt steeped in it. I wouldn't mind if it was like a weak version of it, or even an overpowering smelly version. But it's just lame.

I'll wear it to work when I'm having a workshop day, maybe some sweat will breathe life into it.

I really can't decide what frag would suit me best in the colder months.
Tried Pure Tonka/Havane, love them both but unsure about getting full bottles. I enjoy wearing Guilty Intense and BBRI but I feel the lavender and leather in each one respectively is too strong for my calm, soft personality.
I dress in parkas, bombers, light wash jeans, chinos and colourful puffers/varsity jackets when the weather starts getting cold. But I can't figure a signature for me.

For that you want something that's more of an all rounder, Pure Havane would choke you out above 20 really. Boring but safe options are Bleu de Chanel or Aventus. Really though, having one fragrance is limiting. No reason not to have 4 or 5 to choose from.

Another noselet. It's actually after 15-30 minutes when they start to smell similar. Cool Water's opening is an overload of dihydromyrcenol, mint, and green apple, none of which save for the dihydromyrcenol exist in GIT. Cool Water then moves on to approximate the violet amber heart of GIT, which is when they become similar.

Although many people say that they dislike the opening, I disagree; I'm not a big fragrance connoisseur but even though it is quite strong for the first 5 minutes, I really like it; there's just something about it, maybe it's the whiskey I'm getting from it but it's great in my opinion. Hermes Cedar Sambac is beautiful. Nice masculine floral. Prominent jasmine that has a musky, skin scent quality, without smelling 'off'. Dry cedar keeps it form being a jasmine soliflore, or smelling too feminine/ grandma-y.

The only thing you’re missing out on is the box and cap, and sometimes you still get those, too (especially caps, I find at least 80% or so of testers come with a cap). There’s really no reason not to get a tester if you can, unless you really must have a cap and box that badly.

Right, I just sprayed my sample again. I must say I'm enjoying it a lot more than back when I first got this sample. I mean the fruity citrusy top and the creamy vanilla does smell like aventus but just 5 minutes in you can clearly tell it's a different fragrance. Honestly I never thought aventus' opening smelled like real life pineapple either. It's just the fruityness and tartness that reminds me of pineapple because I already know it's supposed to represent pineapple.

It smells more like newer batches. The darkness/smokyness is completely absent which was a lot stronger back then. As l said above it smells like a fruity and super vanilla heavy batch but only for a brief moment. The most opposite of modern aventus batches still smell closer to eachother than CB and the closest aventus batch. They are not twins but more like cousins.

Yeah, it's a great fresh-smelling fougère, though, and I think it's been long-enough that people don't recognize the scent as readily like they would have ten years ago; you could wear it and be more likely to receive a compliment than a "oh God, Drakkar Noir..." eyeroll.

Cool Water's the same way. Right now, everyone recognizes it, but give it a few more years and people will forget. They'll say you smell great and you tell them it's Cool Water and they'll be surprised.

Curious passerby anon here, what's a good beginner fragrance for a SEAfag living in a humid and hot country all year round?
We don't really have body odor here so perfume usage is quite rare (unless you're a girl out clubbing) although there are fragrance communities out there.

It’s very interesting and won’t be for everyone, but I love it. You get a blast of cinnamon, pepper, citrus, and mint in the opening, it’s a little sweet, a little spicy, and quite sharp. As it dries, it becomes dryer, you start to get more lavender, vetiver, and rose. Kind of a spiced old-school barbershop scent, but much heavier than your standard barbershop, and with a bit of heat from the pepper.

Definitely worth trying.
