For years sephora let me take a handful of samples without buying anything. Maybe the girls there thinks im attractive? Definitely sample more than 3 and don't buy anything before you've worn it on your skin a few times. Whatever you do don't buy anything at those random indian fragrance stores in the mall. They water down their juice and everything is marked up. Sephora is limited in selection so if you really want to branch out you can buy samples offline on luckyscent or the perfume court.

Here is my summer list so far that I'm planning to sample. Pretty sure there are a few on my list that you can get at Sephora. If anyone has any additional recommendations chime in.

(Summer Day)
Thierry Mugler A*Men Ultra Zest
Christian Dior Homme Cologne
Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil
Diptyque Philosykos edt
John Varvatos Artisan Pure
Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Cedro di Taormina
Atelier Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue Pure

(Summer Work)
Guerlain Homme
Amouage Reflection Man
Channel Allure Homme Edition Blanche edt (blind buy off ebay)

(Summer Night Out)
Mancera Cedrat Boise
Creed Aventus

(Summer Date Night)
Christian Dior Ambre Nuit
Hermes L'Ambre Des Merveilles
Amouage Dia For Men

(Summer Netflix and Chill)
Byredo Parfums Bal D'Afrique

I'm of the opinion that you can wear summer fragrances all year long. Autumn/Winter ones should be kept to their seasons, but although citrus on a cold day doesn't really fit, in a practical sense it's not like anything can go wrong. But if you wear Tobacco Vanille on a hot day you're going to choke people out.

after the first 15-30 minutes, GIT and Cool Water smell quite different from one another and easily distinguishable. quit comparing them.

>> No.14285661

Another noselet. It's actually after 15-30 minutes when they start to smell similar. Cool Water's opening is an overload of dihydromyrcenol, mint, and green apple, none of which save for the dihydromyrcenol exist in GIT. Cool Water then moves on to approximate the violet amber heart of GIT, which is when they become similar.

You don't know jack shit about fragrances.

Just got them today. I tried on TO first.

Although many people say that they dislike the opening, I disagree; I'm not a big fragrance connoisseur but even though it is quite strong for the first 5 minutes, I really like it; there's just something about it, maybe it's the whiskey I'm getting from it but it's great in my opinion. Implying that's a bad thing.

In a club you are competing with a lot of fragrances and some sweaty fat girls mixed in so you can absolutely wear more heavy fragrances.

Summer/Winter frags really apply to day wear. Even then it should really be based on the heat rather than seasons as weather differs in countries and regions.

Anyone had experience buying a tester? Is it worth it or should I just spend a little extra and get the box and cap?

>> No.14291968

Wore Silver Mountain Water today.
The first couple of hours smelled rather cheap and sharp to my nose, but I am enjoying the dry down a lot. Performance has been solid.

It reminds me of a frederic malle I have tried, either Angelique Sous La Pluie or Cologne Indelible, maybe a little bit of both. Also kind of reminds me of Lalique White.

>> No.14291972

>>14291960
Worth it depending on the markdown. I like to have the cap, especially if its a nice bottle, but you gotta decide how much thats really worth to you. Actually, the 2 testers I have ordered have both come with caps anyway.

>> No.14291979

>>14291960
If you can get a tester, might as well. It’s 100% the same stuff (I mean, the whole point of testers is to allow you to sample a scent in the hopes that you’ll buy it, watering them down would be counterproductive). The only thing you’re missing out on is the box and cap, and sometimes you still get those, too (especially caps, I find at least 80% or so of testers come with a cap). There’s really no reason not to get a tester if you can, unless you really must have a cap and box that badly.

I always get testers if I can, especially if it’s something expensive. Can save yourself like 100.00.

Right, I just sprayed my sample again. I must say I'm enjoying it a lot more than back when I first got this sample. I mean the fruity citrusy top and the creamy vanilla does smell like aventus but just 5 minutes in you can clearly tell it's a different fragrance. Honestly I never thought aventus' opening smelled like real life pineapple either. It's just the fruityness and tartness that reminds me of pineapple because I already know it's supposed to represent pineapple.
>>14292034
>older batches
It smells more like newer batches. The darkness/smokyness is completely absent which was a lot stronger back then. As l said above it smells like a fruity and super vanilla heavy batch but only for a brief moment. The most opposite of modern aventus batches still smell closer to eachother than CB and the closest aventus batch. They are not twins but more like cousins.

Because from the mid 80s to the mid 90s it was inescapable. Because it's inexpensive, every high-schooler or college kid who skipped a shower that morning wore it and wore way too much. It ended up being stereotyped as the scent of the "cologne guy".

Yeah, it's a great fresh-smelling fougère, though, and I think it's been long-enough that people don't recognize the scent as readily like they would have ten years ago; you could wear it and be more likely to receive a compliment than a "oh God, Drakkar Noir..." eyeroll.

Cool Water's the same way. Right now, everyone recognizes it, but give it a few more years and people will forget. They'll say you smell great and you tell them it's Cool Water and they'll be surprised.
