Messy as fuck hair that I got cut once in a blue moon because I was busy studying.
Oversized sweatshirts and pull-over hoodies from the 90's that I got from the charity shops because I was a broke as fuck student at the time and comfy was what was important to me.
Boxy as fuck oldschool Mambo tshirts.
Pretty green or Levi jeans, slimmer fitting but not cock-and-ball stranglers.

for me it was the time of lookbook.nu
A lot of thrifted "hipster" clothes, oversized tops with skinny jeans, vintage boots or doc martens; ray ban wayfarer (?) shaped glasses
for girls: same, or high waisted flared vintage skirts / mini dresses, block heeled shoes or wedges were popular; messy buns and bangs, cat eye makeup, tote bags with random prints; a more "mainstream" alternative was a Zara ~French elegance all beige look (winter outfit: beige Zara coat, skinny jeans, uggs/chelsea boots, big leather bag or the longchamp foldable bag)
Galaxy print was becoming popular in shops like H&M; also "Aztec" print, sort of Coachella style
music... crystal castles indeed, indie rock bands (if you look at mainstream festival lineups nowadays most bands got big around that time and remained the touring mainstays)
Crucial: jeans were not that high waisted yet, although the waist was going up, and they remained skinny

Tbh I feel a bit stuck in this era and still have many, if not most clothes from back then (which is not that illogical, since even very basic quality clothes should last at least 5-10 years). I just don't feel like fully embracing the trends for the past few years, which I would sum up (for women mostly, I don't follow male fashion that much) as almost only high-waisted pants and skirts, wider fit pants (mom jeans, bell bottoms), strong "streetwear" or athleisure elements, 70s colour palette (mustard, clashing saturated colours), flimsy trends like tiny sunglasses or 90s chokers or cycle shorts, fake vintage gold plated jewellery, "thot" brands (Kardashian inspired). Of course I have to buy new clothes from time to time, and I enjoy some stuff like higher waists and teddy coats, but in general I don't really like the direction the fashion is going
