Why?

Just started noticing these in the last few months. Everywhere now. They trying to look like samurai?

I'm in Ontario, and it's all over campus. Samurai looking buff dudes with manbuns and beards.

I have long hair because I don't like to style it or bother going to get a haircut. It's infinitely easier when I get up to just put it up. I don't have to worry about washing product out every day and I don't have to wash it every day because it takes 2 or 3 days for the oils to spread throughout. It's low maintenance.

Apparently it was not just a joke

Man buns started with hippy rock climbers trying to keep their hair out of the face while climbing, then it turned into a fashion trend.

You do know that trends became meaningless when wearing things ironically became acceptable, right

I grew my hair out and wore a ponytail between 2015 and 2017, inspired by pic related since I have similar features. But then everyone here (Australia) started growing theirs out and wearing man buns and ruined it for me so I cut it all off. Now the trend seems to be top knots (basically man buns with the sides shaved).

In one of my classes, I sit next to a guy who's growing a top knot and it's so cringe. He's obviously just doing it to cope for his balding, he has McD arches that reach all the way to the top of his head.

Yeah I have it a bit like that as well but I am probably going to change it since I'd like to try something else. Also longer hair as much as I like it, I struggle in making it looking great all the time, some days it just looks terrible.

I have no idea what's the current hair trend is but where I live manbuns and top knots were already a thing and I don't see them anymore.

Trends do come late here, by about 5 years. Big cities are like 2-3 years behind.
