I'm Asian but in the U.S., but I proxy most of my clothes from Japan, and most if my stuff now is boxier or drapey and flowy. I just try to stay away from the Redditer slim fit look that everyone wears. I'd say that the looser fits are more of a Japanese thing, but Koreans do wear some oversized stuff. Hong Kong/China is just kind of all over the place but in a bad way.

Depends on what you mean by reasonable price. Honestly, Uniqlo U's stuff with Lemaire is pretty great for the price. The fits are boxier on things like their sweatshirts and linen shirts. And Uniqlo's EZY ankle pants have relaxed fits that are looser. Muji is like Uniqlo as well but I would say it has even more of a Japanese aesthetic and is more boxy, but Muji mostly makes basics. It's not that much more than Uniqlo, but it's also a little nicer quality. Muji has some stores in the U.S. and an online store, but its selection is a little more limited than what they offer in Asia. I proxy stuff from places like Urban Research, but their clothes are a little more expensive usually. Beams makes Americana stuff if that's more your style, but that's also pricier than stuff like Uniqlo.

I'm Mexican and live in Japan; I'm involved with local bands, and the moment spring kicks in, all the dudes be wearing these pants. To be honest, they are extremely comfortable.

Something that tends to annoy me is how a lot of Japanese hipsters get so much into foreign cultures.

It REALLY depends on the school and the program you enrol in. Some schools require some Japanese, but have sufficient courses in other languages.
My school does, but also has some degrees that are only offered in Japanese.
