honestly fashion and design in the 90s were atrocious, largely because it was the point in time where cheap clothing made in asia began to flood the market. it all looks cheap and artificial and most of the designs are objectively shit even by the standards of the times. but a lot of people have fell for the "90s nostalgia" meme, partly bc thrift shops are full of this garbage, and partly bc art school morons want to rebel by embracing gaudiness and tackiness and artificiality but are still too pea-brained to invent anything new. so they turn to the same nostalgia cycles that every purveyor of hipness has been doing since the early 2000s (starting with the garage rock revival shit).

going to be honest, any trend based on nostalgia is a waste. as the upper class in this country has grown more insular and hereditary, all of our best schools and institutions have been filled with the children of rich elites that are completely untalented hacks. the general decay in culture since the early 2000s is a reflection of the laziness of this particular class, who think they can cover up their lack of imagination by saying its "reterritorialization" or "metatextual", and by embracing the archetype of the aloof and cryptic artist (bc if they came out and said what they think it would be clear that its all a hollow charade, a cultural potemkin village). it's like the worst excesses of the romantic era of the 19th century, when everything was about a mood or a vibe or a feeling but there was no substance behind any of it, but nobody caught on for decades bc being vague and esoteric was considered a virtue.

And that 60's folk was just one big circlejerk over music from the 30's and 40's made by college graduates pretending to be Great Depression hobos? This is nothing new.

That said 90's fashion was an atrocity I can't even begin to understand people trying to bring it back.

The way you guys talk about the 90s like it was some ancient mythological age of mystery makes me feel old af. That wasn't even that long ago. Jeez...

What I remember about 90s fashion was not so much a distinct style, but rather blind brand obsession. People tended to be super brand-whores and buy ANYTHING that had a big fat logo on it, just to set themselves apart in terms of status. The most popular brands for young people were either sports brands like Adidas & Nike, or some more niche street wear stuff like Fishbone, Southpole or Mogul whatever. However the essence was that all those clothes were more or less the same, just a different brand print on them.

The only thing I remember as trends were suspender jeans (letting one suspender hang from your hip), rave type clothes, Buffalo boots, and in the late 90s the rise of baggy pants which would transcend into the 2000s.

90s ralph lauren was pretty fucking nice. Real nice. They used some weird fabric blends but the shit looks new 20+ years later. I think in general, the 90s used more 'hardy' fabrics than the thin and shiny fabric used today. i can go on and on about 90s ralph lauren.

Yeah okay Grampa.

Technically I'm not a zoomer, I was born in December of 1992 which makes me a millennial. That's how I actually have memories of the 90's and everything about it other than cartoons and Nintendo 64 was trash. The music was so bad it was infuriating to listen to on the radio, the fashion was terrible, and there was nothing to do unless you had a TV around. But even those stupid things weighed 500 lbs and had shit quality.

Being a teenager in the mid-late 00's was everything, and zoomers probably have it better today (although imo their music sucks).

Another 92 fag here.

Early 90s was still decent in terms of media, but late-90s and 00s took a turn for the worse. Grunge was kinda hit, or miss, but all the whiny alt-rock, rap rock/nu-metal that came after was insufferable and pop music became really annoying. Thankfully in Europe that wasn't really that popular until the 00s, in the 90s it was eurodance that was everywhere. Also movies and serials became cheaper and crappier, movies especially with CGI becoming cheaper and used as a gimmick.

Logowear was one of the more enduring trends of the 90's: FUBU, Ecko Red, Aeropastale, Ab&Fitch, Hollister and a parade of others. Today people won't even caught dead in the stuff.

The 90's and early 00's were the last periods before mobile and social networks took over. Things still moved slow enough where trends could catch on and stick around for a few months if not years. Today, anything even remotely catchy gets mined dry within weeks.

I liked grunge and alt as well. It was different from the usual affair. It was angry. It was unapologetic. It was dark without having to hide behind a Steely Dan smile. It also got too samey too soon. The only reason it took hold was because boy bands from the 90's like New Kids On the Block kept getting sued for stealing stuff from other bands. Once the legal coast was clear, the record companies bulldozed everything for Nsync and the parade of Disney whores.

>>14204890
>whiny alt-rock, rap rock/nu-metal
It was short lived before radio went full rap, nu-R&B, and generally modern black with old 70's and 80's icons dragging their stale electronica with them. Limp Bizkit is annoying as shit tho.

We were the last generation that experienced life before cell phones and the internet was still a novelty brimming with hopeful potential. Outside of that, there was a lot of shit in the 90's. Specifically, the 80's-00's were when we experienced the most drastic drop in manufacturing quality of everyday clothes. The 90's had good subcultures and art/music, but the average oaf became more unkempt and sloppy than ever.

yes, the best feeling as a teen then, was getting a girls number, on a piece of paper she wrote it on with her name, and then she would call your house on an actual real phone. it was magnificent, but pagers destroyed that almost completely. I don't usually visit /fa/ but I'm sitting here killing some time until I go home. I'm 36 so I'm old enough to remember the 90s quite well (not like the guy born at the ass end of 92 whose balls hadn't even dropped yet when 9/11 happened).

The 90s had its ups and downs, and while there were some annoying fashion trends that popped up at the end of the decade, for the most part, chicks were way cuter in the 90s and they knew how to dress attractively. Sure, there was some risque clothing some girls would wear but it would look downright conservative compared to the shit the average thot wears in 2019. Also, girls weren't fucking obese the way they are now. Women are disgusting blimps now, in addition to the ugly fucking makeup, haircuts and armpit/leg hair. They also had more pleasant personalities.

I could go on but my ride is almost here. In before "look at this old fag posting on 4chan." Been here since April 2005. Remember, once you're here, you're here forever.

The last half of the 2010s were more like a late 80s - early 90s revival at best.

Zoomer here, 19. Grew up with a lot of 90s stuff because of poor family + older brother, though. Was raised on Newgrounds and I dabbled in 4chan back with the habbo raids/pool's closed era because of my brother.

My generation is weird. I'm from a rural area, but most of the people here listen to stadium country and shit like lil peep.

Fashion-wise, everyone dresses... average, I guess? Few people really dressed than in something not from Wal-mart or an outlet store.

About 90% of my grade was conservative and most people stayed in relationships for years if they started one.

This is going to sound edgy as fuck, but I think I finally understand the male impulse to rape.

I look at them and feel two things at once:

1. Utter disgust with their personalities and full knowledge they're horrible people who I would gladly throw in the gutter

1. Sexual attraction

The only clear reaction to that combination of feelings is rape. It satisfies both the lust and the rejection of her humanity
