they're really not. I think they got popular under the premise that actual Native Tribes got part of the profits, or that the tobacco was organic or something.
I smoke a pipe, with Carter Hall, or Prince Albert with Latakia. I've never tasted a cherry tobacco that wasn't all pouch note and no flavor. Never tried Half and Half, or Clan, but I've like to.
You might try camels in the soft pack, new ports, or RYO from loose leaf papers [the coolest looking cigs by far because no sane person peacocks they fucking packaging], just don't get addicted to them.

At a certain point American Spirits didn't feel satisfying to me anymore, i just couldn't really hit them very well.
If i immolated the tip of the cigarette I could make it work, but it would taste like shit if i wasn't using wooden matches.

Anyway, I was smoking Pall Mall non filters before i quit like a week ago, i can't find any good pictures of the pack and i don't have any to take a picture of, so here's a Lucky Strike pack.
American Lucky Strikes might be too retro to be /fa/, camel non filters and camel filters are /fa/ though

The only Spirits worth smoking are Turqoise, Black, and Celadon. You can get the former two in RYO pouches. Celadons are smooth and sweet, Turq and Black are a little less smooth but stronger, bolder taste.

I smoke Lucky Strikes too, but not often because of how expensive they are. Worth picking up once in a while though, they're strong as hell and taste a bit like chocolate and molasses. Djarum cigars are nice. RYO is probably the way to go if you're committed, but I'm not.

I also have to agree with your points, bent pipes are a pain in the ass when it comes to cleaning and big bowls for a newbie would be unbearable. But I do like churchwardens though, I have a couple of them and they're great when you're reading a book.

I've been smoking pipe for six years now and I couldn't go back to cigarettes. Maybe the occasional one that I roll myself but other than that the flavor of pipe tobacco is just so much better.

You should only try the black pack of American Spirits, but even those aren't as good as they once were. I'm pretty sure the filter is perforated so it just feels like you're smoking air, which is a bummer because those were the strongest cigarettes you could buy. The first time I tried latakia was in summer. It's romantic bullshit but whenever I smoke it, I day dream about the Ottoman empire and orientalism in art. I never associate the cedar-fur scent and taste with christmas. [no xmas trees growing up]... and chili is a summer food, dammit.
Even though my love of codger blends runs deep, it doesn't extend into all drugstore types.The worst is Cpt. Black, then Velvet. It tastes like clay. If you are into cherry aromatics, the only thing that tastes like cherry without it being all pouch note is Cult. They make a cigar too.

I'm in a similar situation. I just try to avoid smoking at all, but when I do feel the urge to get some nicotine, usually when I'm really stressed or pissed, I buy some liquid and vape for a time, then I get back to functioning without nicotine. I go back to vaping like every 2-3 months and I do that basically only at home. It's kind of a shitty compromise, I know, but at least I don't smoke cancer sticks and I didn't go full vape nation either (desu I'm not that bothered about the aesthetic of vaping to not vape outside, but I do enjoy vaping less than smoking, it's just isn't the same ritual for me, and my vape has a shitty battery life anyway)
I know I haven't really gave you a decent answer, but you might look for some actual advice outside of 4chan
