Well Aventus blew my fucking mind, I'm just deciding if I'm willing to drop $400 on it. The fresh/fruity scent with musk under it is incredible.

For pure malt it was the light wood (unlike fucking d2 wood which made me a block of cedar) and malt, neither of which was overbearing. I'll poke around and try to find ones like that, unless you got more suggestions. I'll order whatever I can find.

>I don't like most overly fresh scents, but in summer you have no choice I guess. I'm more of a woody type
Fucking same man. I've been having a hard time finding something for summer as well. I have tried probably a dozen vetiver fragrances and most of them have turned me off - they tend to be very sharp and medicinal, at least on my skin. That said, I'm probably going to go with Chanel Sycomore as my summer scent. It has all of the beautiful, dry, woody qualities of vetiver I love, and almost none of the sharpness. Its listed on fragrantica as more cool weather oriented, but it reminds me of a pine forest on a baking hot day.

CdG Sugi is decent as well, and smells similar. I have had a sample for months now, I didnt really care for it at first, but I decided to finish it up the other day and was surprised by how much I liked it, especially in the dry down.

TLDR; try sycomore and sugi, if you have the coin.

So I bought the miniature recently. Turns out I got the concentree version. I really wanted to check out the original but ended up with this. The concentree version is okay I guess. There is a distinct tea note, but it’s lighter than a green oolong. I’d say it’s closer to a high quality floral Chinese green or white tea. The bergamot is really intense in the beginning (a little too much for me). For the first 30 minutes it gives off more of an Earl Grey vibe before the bergamot settles down and the whole scent lightens up.

On a related gourmand note - the mandarin is stunning, but it fades quickly. There’s no generic citrus here, you can almost taste a fresh mandarin.

Is pick related wearable for a 26 year old? I have a somewhat classic style but I don’t want to seem obnoxious by wearing an old people scent. Some anon around here made me nervous with a comment along the lines of „Young People definitely can’t pull it off.“
Further, if it’s wearable, is it summer compatible? Which occasions would you wear it to? Office and date appropriate?

I'm new to fragrances and started going to shops with my girlfriend to 'smell around'

Am I weird for disliking almost everything? All the topsellers for men are such sugar-bombs I cannot stand.

Good vetiver with a hint of citrus scent and great lasting power. I'd also recommend in the same vein: Guerlain Vetiver (slightly creamy vetiver) and Terre d'Hermes Intense Vetiver.
>>14161104
ADG is a classic safe office/work fragrance, the only downside is that you will probably smell like someone's dad. You could try the Profumo version as it isn't that cloying especially if you do not overspray. All of your picks are work safe and I would also suggest: Dior Homme Cologne/ Chanel Allure Home Sport, Prada L'Homme L'eau or Terre D'Hermes Eau Fraiche.
>>14161183
If you like the scent, go for it. Personally as I said before, I wouldn't think this would suit a young buck in today's day and age. I find barbershop fougere scents to smell too much like classic aftershaves (i.e Denim). And I pretty much guarantee that it's not a very attractive scent for the zoomer/millenial female demographic. But, in hindsight, sample it, wear it for a few times, see how it performs on your skin and then make your decision. I would also give Chanel Pour Monsieur a try which to my nose is so much better than the Dior.
>>14161501
I found that the taste for fragrances is certainly something that you develop through time and a lot of sniffing. That being said, next time you should try fragrances from designers such as Tom Ford, Hermes and Cartier and also give a chance to the classic Dior and Chanel fragrances: Dior Dune, Dior Higher, Dior Eau Sauvage, Chanel Egoiste, Platinum Egoiste, Pour Monsieur and Antaeus. Also look for niche houses to sniff.

It's legit. I bought from them many times (from their predecessor, iparfumeria too) and never once received fakes.

Most people are clueless when it comes to authenticity of frags. They aren't aware that there can be different versions of the same scent, when a frag is around for some time and they know only the original version, they can easily label a new version as fake, because it smells differently. For instance i picked up pic related inexpensive bottle yesterday for the upcoming warmer weather. The original version was introduced in 1999, the version i bought is on the market since 2012. The two aren't the same, but none of them are fake.

Yes and no. Many fragrances, especially designer frags, will have both and EDT and an EDP version. It’s not just the concentration, usually they have different notes. Sometimes it’s relatively subtle, they’ll add or remove a few things to add a little twist to the scent or to emphasize a certain aspect of the scent, but sometimes, the notes can be pretty radically different and the two versions bear only a passing resemblance to one another.

Don’t assume that the two versions will be the same thing, just different concentrations. Many brands just use it as an excuse to release flankers.

Himalaya and GIT are your safest bet, both SMW and Specially Royal Mayfair are pretty polarizing imo.

Personally I like all of them and just dont have the Himalaya due performance on my skin being even worst than SMW which I will problably swap for mefisto once its over...

People seems to enjoy more GIT on me if you can about others opnions.

the whisky in tobacco oud isn't going to be as easy to pick out as the opening just blasts you with tobacco and oud (who would have guessed). It's a very heavy scent but the drydown is well worth it.
All Tom Ford's scents are unisex no matter what the label says. There is virtually no difference between the two Noirs.
>>14168197
Best Chanel for men would have to be pic related. Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme, Egoiste and Pour Monsieur come close.
As for powdery fragrances by Chanel these two come to mind: Les Exclusifs de Chanel Misia and Chanel No 19 Poudre.

this is very autistic anon. You are not going to get a girls panties to drop just by smelling like something alone. Maybe if you smell like cash? The meme, tho, is that a certain compound named Hedione can rile up the sex in a female. The only perfume I smelled that had Hedione was Percival by PDM. Got me all riled up.

I’d say Egoiste. I dunno why but this juice always spellbinds me. There’s enough sweetness, dryness, a bit of tobacco and spices. The composition in this one is simply impeccable. It’s not too heavy or headache inducing, it’s not offensive. People say it’s too old school but idk to me it smells even more interesting and refined than most of today’s bestsellers. Chanel really knows it’s game otherwise they wouldn’t stick around such old frags like Antaeus or Pour Monsieuer. For me it’s a perfect scent for men desu.

The holy grail of fragrances; long discontinued. You will pay $200 for a secondhand bottle if you are so blessed as to find one. It is everything sublime about Égoïste and much more. The very same notes travel though a dénouement that is simply better; it's Égoïste but with VOLUME. The EdT has gotten weaker and weaker with successive reformulations. The CC, very nearly violent, remains.
